that's excatly what I meant. a draft wouldn't be needed, since you felt that joining the army would be worth it so you join voluntary. if the country needs to force you to defend your home, there's something wrong with the country...King Alexander said:Yes, I'd join, but not because I love the military or I do love wars: I'd want to protect my family, and the ideas/culture/way of life we have, if invaded.
and taxes, don't forget taxesLook, there're a few things that people don't understand or confuse: a country provides it's citizens with security, rights, jobs, whatever...but that doesn't mean it's citizens have NO obligation towards their country: the only thing their country expects from them is to protect it if invaded, and I find it very logical. That's the way I see it.
It's not a matter that should be optional, either, for me. I find it very logical the state to demand such a thing(the people make the laws, so they also don't mind).KaeptnOvi said:that's excatly what I meant. a draft wouldn't be needed, since you felt that joining the army would be worth it so you join voluntary. if the country needs to force you to defend your home, there's something wrong with the country...
Ah yes, I forgot taxes! Maybe that tells how much I love them!KaeptnOvi said:and taxes, don't forget taxes
but all of this only applies in a purely defensive war, what if your country installed a draft for a war abroad?
CivGeneral said:Depends on the war.
Since I am going by the present state of our affairs. I would flee this country if there was ever a draft reinstated for Gulf War II.
no. it'll be a cold day in hell (or a world war 3) when the draft gets re-instated.Sidhe said:Honest question do you or any US citizens think the US would ever institute a draft for an unpopular war again after the damage the last one did?
Red Stranger said:As I said before, it's selfish to leave your fellow countrymen to die in a struggle while you flee to another country, and frankly, it's cowardly. I would stay and fight instead of hiding in another country like a coward.

If this was December, 1941 - I think we might be screwed. Then again, the ranks of the Axis powers would be full of pansies, too - wouldn't they?
