Wow... Just wow. Its shocking how much things change.

Here's a gem from my early days (assume the presence of many [sic] tags):

I think axmen are overpowered. thaqt 50% bonus in a primarily melee world means that other than maybe spears and archers for defence, they are the only units you can use successfully.
really, if a swordsman with iron and a sheild fought an axman with flimsy bronze, who would win?
when the mongols discovered iron working, their forces were so superior that it largely inspired the chines to build the great wall, so that they would not have to fight hand to hand

You wanna see how much things change? One of my first posts back in OT.
Spoiler back in 2002 :

Wow, this off topic thread has a lot of liberals in it... that's a first!
Link to post removed so that no one bumps the thread. It would definitely get bumped given the relevant content.

edit: my post wasn't being sarcastic.

... I went form terrabad, to terrible. It's an improvement but not much of one :(

I have gone from a right-libertarian imperialist to a more compassionate pragmatic liberatarian.

As examples... I once advocated a pure flat tax, whereas now I advocate an NIT. I once advocated reckless imperialism against other states, whereas now I'm more reserved. I am now pro-life imprisonment rather than pro-death. I have also become heavily in favor of liberalisation of drug policies, whereas originally I was very prohibitionist. As well, I've gone from "free market solutions" to supporting universal insurance.

More or less, I stopped taking Hannity as the word of God and instead looked at my own thoughts and other people's arguments. You will always get closer to the truth if you look at multiple sources and derive an opinion from that.

...the fact I was Hannitised for a year or two makes me fear the influence of talk radio.

I'd say I've improved at least higher than a 5. Though I'm noticing a trend that to have a 10 you must go very left. ;)

I will have to admit that I have become worse, much worse.
There was a time that I like to think that I contributed in a positive way to this forum, I can't see that I do that now. I can only hope that i am wise enough to find the reaon for this and remedy it.
I give myself a 2.

i have come a long way from blizzsector in 2004. im not that good, but i at least managed to avoid tons of warnings and infractions.

Sadly my posting style has hardly changed. I might be slightly more subtle now, though.

UN HDI rankings thread anno 2002:
i live in a better country than you guys!!!!!   :king: :king: :rotfl: :rotfl: [dance] [dance] :p

Some lolAmerica thread:
i think that americans just thin of theselves!!

"you have to buy an american car all other cars are bad"they say.
and they think norwegians are only farmers and stuff.norway is one of the richest countries in the world and they are in the top five on the countries with the highest percentage of internet users.
Damn thin ameriKKKans and their ignorance of Norwegian internet habits.

I had guts back then, though. For example my very first post in OT:
Replying to this:
It is a sport.Who disagrees with me and reads dutch i send him/her our manual and our book about technique in bowling.
if bowling is not a sport then golf is also not a sport.
Anyone who DARES to say bowling is a lame sport i will be with much pleasure challenge him.He will absolutely not win because he doesnt train once/twice(you can choose)2hours a week.
And its a matter of technique and discipline to bowl and throw a strike. And its teamspirit.if you throw with a team and someone is throwing not so good we will cheer him up.
BOWLING=SPORT!

With this:
BOWLING=LAME SPORT
And promptly leaving the thread. Genius.

The best thread I ever made. Do we play civ because it is easy or because it is hard? Sounds like something the developers of Civ5 should ask themselves.

I give my self a 6. Some things I do better now and some worse. I was fun and edgy back then. Unfortunately I was also 13.

So of course after reading that, I had to find the thread - one I did, I was very tempted to bump it. Some classic early JR - not quite as one linery.

1.

I tend to stick to the strategy forums for Civ4, follow the games, and comment on peoples' saves. Occasionally I come here to pour scorn on people different than me. It's made me 10% better as a poster and a human being.

Specialist economy is still an exploit that shouldn't have existed in the way it does. And I doubt I'll be recanting my views on the AI in civ5. So nah, I'm cool :sunglasses:

Ooooooohhhh!! Civ3 Demogame II!

I had forgotten all about the Demogames! Those were the days. :D

The Demogames are the reason I have more than about 200 posts right now! I joined at the tail end of Demogame II and by early DG3 I was causing mischief, refusing to do my job because I thought the President was being a dictator, and getting banned! In my defense, I was 14, and that was pretty much the highlight of that year for me.

I suppose I've improved since then, but then again I slowed my posting down dramatically after 2005 or so, and stopped participating in the DG.
