Your first OT thread. Much wow. More yay.

Now, I'm not one to put salt in the wound but..

Yeah, that's pretty bad.
Only a couple of year ago, and all. I'd like to think I've loosened up a bit since then but, christ, half of the reason that it makes me cringe so hard is that I can still imagine myself piling in all self-serious like that.

Oh dear... quite a bit of cringing here.

My first thread outside of the Civ/game forums was in the History thread: What do you think are the greatest Civiliations in history?

I think that's the sort of silliness I'd be uninterested in today.

My first thread in OT proper, however, was Which Classical Composer had the greatest legacy?, with a poll cringingly titled "Who is the Emperor of Classical Music?"

That said, though, for my high school self, I could've done worse, the threads were mainly harmless. Now, going back to my posts in argument threads, on the other hand... though I don't think I'd necessarily disagree with myself, it's how I present myself that's a whole 'nother matter.

I wonder if perhaps I should use the New Thread button more often. I spam the "Post Quick Reply" one, but not so much the other one.

According to my stats, I've only started 27 threads in all the time I've been here. The numbers break down thusly:

Off-Topic: 12
A&E: 9
Site Feedback: 6

There are a few others in the staff forum from years ago; only a current mod could check that out. And my stats don't give information on threads started in the social groups. I have a very long one in IALS; it's 45 pages by now.

It's surprising to realize that I never started any Civ-related threads, considering that Civ II is what brought me to this forum in the first place.

Anyway, here's my first Off-Topic thread: Spring Roll Strike!

More than 200 threads created, probably at least another 50 in the moderators forum, but only 2 are in OT. And one of them is a birthday thread.
The other one is this, and I don't feel ashamed, but most likely only because it wasn't *that* long ago.

I think my first non-civ related thread was about the Cinco de Mayo [feces]storm that hit my hometown 4 years ago.

My first one is Levi-Strauss is dead. It was quite sad for me, because I discovered few months before that that he is still alive.

This was one of my favourite threads: Racist art disgraces Czech EU presidency. 100% sarcastic, posted entirely to take the piss out of Winner (who has an excellent sense of humour). The great thing was, he had to defend the artwork because it's Czech, and thus claim that it's fine to joke about national stereotypes -- which gave me unlimited license to take the piss out of the Czech Republic (and other Eastern European nations (and France)).

It was just such a perfect thing: 1) frivolous use of the word "racist", 2) not really "art" in any meaningful sense, 3) done by a Czech guy, 4) all paid for by the EU and in the EU president's name, 5) mocking national stereotypes. It just ticked all the boxes, to this day I can't think of a better way of making fun of Winner.

I thought it was a thread on what working in bookstores is like, but nope: 'tis a thread called "Find Out How Common Your Name Is". Took two years to get to the bookstore thread.

BORACHIO is a very rare male first name
Very few male first names in the US are BORACHIO
Be proud of your unique first name!

Oh...

Do they know what "unique" means? Hint: it doesn't mean "very rare". Well, not exactly.
