Your First Time

When the time is right and find the right person to do it with, I will remember my first time.

You don't need another person for this. You can do it by yourself, though I usually do it in a group. Just be sure to wear protection.

Only fired 9 mm pistols and a Colt revolver. No rifles or anything hefty like a shotgun.

Wasn't as entertaining as it was made out to be. 1/5 would not waste money on again.

First time was actually with a black powder musket replica. Pretty awesome, tore a helluva piece out of my target (1L water bottle). To be expected when firing a .70 musket ball :D

Bloody heavy though, with quite a recoil for the first time, even with only a 70 grain powder load.

Since then I've fired ~50 shots from a 12 gauge shotgun at skeet. Hit 17/25 my first time doing that :)

Go big or go home :p

I have a similar story, except I don't know what the caliber or powder load was - and didn't at the time, either - and my target was paper.

I think the most common caliber is .50, but I couldn't back that up with anything other than anecdote.

Never fired a gun, don't plan to either.

It was fun!

I turned out to be a better shot than I imagined.

This precisely, however.....

Over the course of the weekend we shot a number of kangaroos (vermin on this farm) and other animals classified as such. By the end of the weekend the thought of killing yet another animal was too much for me. I've never fired a gun since.

I don't hold any strong views on the ethics of killing animals considered pests, but I do know I sure as hell don't want to do it again. It could be argued that I have taken the most hypocritical position in the sense that I'm prepared to enjoy the benefits of the culling of said vermin.

What was your first time firing a gun like?

I was close to a toddler when I started shooting guns (with adult help). So that's like asking me what it was like to walk for the first time or what it was like to use the potty for the first time.

The earliest thing about shooting I can actually remember is feeling recoil and seeing dirt kick up in front of me.

I've never fired a gun. These things are very restricted here, but my grandfather has two rifles and a shotgun (and used to have a pistol) and I've always wanted to see them in action.

Forgot to mention my first time was with a competition grade 9mm Glock. Very sexy

Haven't fired a proper gun (to my shame). I have shot a BB gun but well, thats crap compared to an AK.

BB guns too far back for me to remember when.

They're no fun. Little noise, no recoil, little power- they lack any of the things that make shooting firearms fun.

Eh. Don't underestimate the lowly .22 caliber rifle. It has more than enough power to take you off this earth even with the shorts.

The first times going out and shooting things I really remember with any clarity was always my dad taking out vermin on the farm. Squirrels that had taken to chewing into seed bags, groundhogs damaging foundations, that sort of thing. They've always been a tool rather than a recreation for me, and they've always been for killing something. Target practice can be enjoyable, I like clay pidgeons. Don't really like handguns. Barrel is too short. Too easy to point where you don't want it pointed.

yup but if you walk around with one you'll probably get arrested

I've fired guns. I grew up around them. It's essentially a controlled explosion in your hands with enough protection so that you feel the boom without getting hurt. Some weapons kick back more than others. If you're a beginner I'd go with a .22 rifle. Easy to shoot and doesn't have much kick.

It was earlier this year. I was about two months into my conscription as a National Service Police Officer and that day was the first live firing round lesson. I was mostly uneasy at the thought of having a loaded Tarous Revolver strapped to my hip. Something of death and danger was at my hands.

The sounding bell went off and for the first (very long) three seconds, nobody completely pulled the trigger to fire the bullet. Meanwhile, out of hearing nothing, I clenched my index finger, pulled the trigger back and fired the bullet, letting the recoil bounce off.

I immediately felt horrible. It felt wrong to have that much power and that much lethality in my hand or in anyone's hands. It sickened me to know that they were forcing me to fire a gun.

:rotfl:
Am I reading a parody or is that actually how you felt? I'm sorry, it's pathetic.
