Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for placing your order with us at Zavvi,co.uk XXXXXXX

Due to a technical problem the price advertised on our website at the point of placing your order for Sid Meier's Civilization V (5) [PC], was incorrect. As a result it has been necessary to cancel your order and we regret any inconvenience that this may cause.

We can confirm that payment has not been taken and you are free to re-order at the correct price should you wish.

Should you have any further questions please contact us through your online account message centre or on 0844 264 0702 and we will be happy to help you.

Many Thanks,

The Zavvi Customer Care Team

:(

I'll send them an email to protest it, but I don't expect anything to happen.

So it turned out it was an error.
Anyway they offer real bargains from time to time: I pre-ordered Civ 5 from Zavvi at 25£ (for real) at 29 June. I would advice to keep checking their website for special offers!

I live in Canada so the shipping time and price turns good deals for Europeans into mediocre ones for me. The Civ price was well worth a shot though.

Yeah, my preorder got busted too! :(
I'll send them a protest too and since I've never used them online and now they've screwed me over, I don't know that I ever will...
maybe go back to Amazon... maybe not even pre-order at all! I wouldn't be able to use it till late October anyway...

I was afraid that Zavvi.com's price for Civ5 was too good to be true.

Just as I had originally though :(

Yeah I guessed this would be the outcome.

You can't really expect them to honour a purchase made at an incorrect price. Unless you have already taken the goods home, i.e if you go into a supermarket and buy a loaf of bread and they undercharge you, they aren't going to come knocking on your door for the extra money :P. As far as pre-ordering goes and from their terms and conditions they said they were under no obligation to follow through with the sale.

Well anyway, thanks for informing us of your loss of profit ;).

Well, a certain sandwich shop called Jimmy John's has been known to employ that tactic from time to time. But yes, most shops wouldn't stoop to that level.

I figured something had to give on this - be it them ordering 3 copies and thus being out of stock and unable to fulfill 99% of the orders, or whatever. I'm sure someone heard about their pricing mistake when they came in the next morning to hundreds/thousands more orders than usual, though!

Nothing wrong with saying "HAH! I TOLD YOU SO" It may be childish, but its fun.

Just last week I was visiting someone in hospital, okay no I wasn't I don't leave my house, and the child had been hit by a car whilst not looking both ways and I was like hah! told you so. And then the doctor threw me out for scaring random children that weren't mine.

Zavvi's response to my message of displeasure at the cancellation of my order:

"Thank you for your message.

I'm really sorry that you are upset that your order has been cancelled but if i can draw your attention to the below point in our terms and conditions, as we have not taken payment for any items we do have the right to cancel your order until payment is taken as your order is treated as an offer to purchase.

9. Orders

All orders are subject to acceptance and availability. If the goods ordered are not available, you will be notified by e-mail (or by other means if no e-mail address has been provided) and you will have the option either to wait until the item is available from stock or to cancel your order.

Any orders placed by you will be treated as an offer to purchase the goods or services from us and we have the right to reject such offers at any time. You acknowledge that any automated
acknowledgment of your order which you may receive from us shall not amount to our acceptance of your offer to purchase goods or services advertised on the Website. The conclusion of a contract between you and us will take place when we (i) debit your credit or debit card or (ii) dispatch the goods to you or commence the services, whichever is the earlier."

Its hardly surprising that a retailer decided not to incur a loss based on an error when they were under no contractual requirement to do so.
