So I'm reading about this "open letter" that a number of African-American celebrities have endorsed, demanding that Joe Biden name a Black running mate. The implication of the letter seemed to be that, if he doesn't choose a Black woman, they won't vote for him. fwiw, they didn't say they'd vote for Trump - I think there was a line in the letter about not wanting to vote for the lesser of two evils - the implication was that they wouldn't vote at all. Of course I have no idea how many people this letter speaks for.

Not for me . Also I kinda regard an "open letter" penned by celebrities to just be attention/relevance whoring, to be disregarded as such.

Biden already committed to picking a woman, and all but commited to at least trying to make it a black woman. Given that, and especially with Trump as the alternative I don't see the utility of this move, again, other than a grab for attention and relevance.

Happens to the best of us. I recently misremembered how early I started saying Trump would win the nomination. I was sure that it was as soon as he announced, but when I went back and checked, while I immediately recognized him as Hillary's biggest threat, I was sure that the media would never take him seriously enough or give him enough coverage to gain any traction... boy was I wrong about that. And even once I became certain, early on that he would get the nomination, I was definitely thinking Hillary would win... wrong again. *facepalm*

Biden is unlikely to run again. If he is smart, he will step down after two years and let his VP take over and be an incumbent in 2024.

I thought Hilary was gonna win up until 48 hours before the election. Then I wasn't sure.

Trump winning wasn't a big surprise. Polls were with h margin of error right before election night.

Yeah that was a hangup that got this one soldier I knew kicked out of the military. She was from Guam and enlisted to be a HUMINT collector like me. She was granted an interim security clearance for the training, but was eventually denied the necessary security clearance for the job because she wasn't a citizen. Normally the Army would just reclass you into another MOS, but the only one available at the time was infantry and this was back when women were still prohibited from serving in the infantry. So the Army discharged her. They still gave her an honorable discharge and access to all her VA benefits though.

Yeah, the difference between ‘national’ and ‘citizen’ actually does have legal consequences so it's not an idle one, even if most most US territories have become actual US states over time.

270towin keeps an electoral map based on current polling that already shows Biden at 272 electoral votes, to Trump's 107. The obvious caveat is, "hey, polling *shrug*", so big grain of salt and all that.

If 270 is the minimum to win and Biden has 272 and Trump 107 then there's ~160 still undecided so pretty much the election is up for grabs then if we take into account margins of error.
