5 city conquest challenge

sorry, im confused as to whether your only going to play 5 turns or just waiting for some feed back? and when did you get a leader? in taking nottingham?

hajime - on deck
gozpel
opac
t3h_m013 - just polayed
grs - up (or finished im not sure?)

however, things are looking up in general, an army will be a huge bonus, gonna be tricky deciding what to put in it though.

I think he got the army when he attacked Notthingham. I would keep some of the troops in English territory there around to be used later against Sumeria, since if things go well they will draw much troops from sumeria towards them which will make our task much easier. I agree that army will be of much use since we will mostly be the side with less units available, so having an army that can take down defenders and also work as protector of stack, making it immune to enemy attacks given that it is not outdated, which are huge advantages for us.

Nice trading grs :)

i agree we should leave them their assuming we're not desperate for defenders at home. there are montaints for them to fortify on, theyll take some removing.
and for the army, maybe wait till knights and fill it with that?

Turn 0: Set Lux to 10% to stop some massive civil disorder happening

IBT: Russia threatened us for iwnes. Wasn't worth declining, so I gave them what they wanted.

Turn 1: Sent Herman the German to the mountain nearby Leipzig, as it looks like Sumeria is eyeing our territory.

Turn 2: Berlin produced Marketplace. Set it to Harbor
Frankfurt produced Worker. Set it to Medieval Infantry.
Negotiated RoP with Sumeria.

Turn 3: Nothing

Turn 4: Leipzig produced Marketplace.
Set it to producing a courthouse - it'll help Leipzig a good deal.
Workers from England arrived in our territory

Turn 5: Nothing

Turn 6: Berlin produced Harbor.
Set it to Worker to bleed off excess pop.

Found out the Sumerians are building Leonardo's Workshop.

Found out Spain lacks Engineering and will give 5gpt + 19 gold for it - gave it to them before another civ does as every other civ has engineering.

Turn 7: Berlin produces Worker.
Set it to Medieval Infantry.
Hamburg produces Aqueduct.
Set it to Temple, as it looks like it is about to become a border city with the mass rush by all civs to get into the unsettled territory.
Messed around with troop allocations to force the comp's mass settlers to go -all- the way around them ;).

Turn 8: Konisberg produces Marketplace.
Set it to Aqueduct.
Due to proper worker blockade (Hey, all the workers are working too!) the comp went running out of our territory ;).
Started to move units back and forth - luring comps to a specific spot without roads, then closing it, opening up a new gap elsewhere (Hey, they send all their settlers our way using this :P No more expansion! YAY!)

Turn 9: More exciting hijinks involving manipulating the AI into trying to beat our soldiers to the gap!

Turn 10: Even more exciting hijinks!

Pre-turn - We definitely need more galleys, so we can send some on suicide-runs.

70AD - Sumeria completes Hanging Gardens.

Our galley get booted out of Russia.

Berlin MI -> galley

90AD - Nothing of interest.

110AD - Hamburg temple -> galley

Galley outside Russia spots land over a strait.

130AD - Berlin galley -> galley

Renew lux-deal with Russia for 232g.

150AD - Frankfurt galley -> galley

Send a galley on suicide run. The land E of Russia seem to be an island and Russia already settled a town there.

170AD - Hamburg galley -> galley

Galley survived run and spots a fish, land ohoy anyone. May she make it for another turn.

190AD - Galley sinks.

Berlin galley -> galley
Leipzig court -> treb

210AD - 2 more galleys sent out to sea

230AD - Galleys survives this turn, one spots a corner of a border.

Berlin and Hamburg galleys -> galleys

Curragh up north takes a sea-route too and spots red borders.

250AD - 2 galleys and a curragh sinks, but 2 galleys survives.

We meet Rome, they are backwards.

We need to meet the missing civs. Sumeria is running away slightly, they know Invention and Monotheism.

Continue the galley runs, we might have saved the day already though by getting to Rome, next player can buy horses from Sumeria so we can start build up some mobile forces.

molemap.jpg

interturn250 AD: Trade our wines to Spain for gems and 1 gold

turn 1 260 AD: Leipzig trebuchet -> pikeman, notice that we dont have horses. Konigsberg aquaduct -> granary, Our galley sinks :( Buy horses from sumeria for 90 gold and start some horses

turn 2 270 AD: Berlin galley -> horse, Hamburg galley -> granary, Frankfurt galley -> aqueduct, Sell engineering to Rome for The Republic(which they got just last turn), 12 gpt and 39 gold. It is possible that they share landmass with the last civ as i feel that they should be more backwards if they were alone.

turn 3 280AD: Leipzig horseman -> granary, my galley not only spot the french borders but also spots purple borders that usually belong to Iroquis. They are pretty near of Rome so they might share common continent afterall.

turn 4 290AD: Berlin horseman -> horseman ( we generate 50 gpt and have 500 on bank)

turn 5 300 AD: contact Scandinavia and France, both broke and lacking Eng+Feud+Lit as Rome did when i got my hands to the game. We've our runaway candidate here with Rome as they have only 16 cities under their control currently :eek:

turn 6 310 AD: Exploring

turn 7 320 AD: More of the same

turn 8 330 AD: Berling horseman -> horseman, Hamburg granary -> harbor, Uh oh, Sumerians just started Knights templar :eek:

turn 9 340 AD: England comes and demands 52 gold, i refuse and they back down, Konigsberg granary -> horse. I could sell techs to Rome and France for some tasty gpt, but i dont as i feel that they have lot of potential to become threats later on. They are researching at good rate thought and to get us something positive out of it i trade France eng for 13 gpt and 60 gold as Rome allready has it.

turn 10 350 AD: Exploring

To next player: I have not checked trading at the turn you inherit so, take a look at it before pressing enter

The Save

Heck, take the gpt or someone else will happen to find them and do it. I don't care a bit about civs on another landmass. When they come for us later, they will meet some resistance. Or rather, it will be us going for them :lol:

Gold is all we have now and we have to make a move soon, so make those deals and stuff the piggybank. Continue to build horses and when the time is right we will get Chivalry one way or another and knights.

Just my point of view :)

hajime - on deck
gozpel
opac - just played
t3h_m013 - up (blimey thse went quickly)
grs - on deck

im not sure on which rules we're using but arent suicide galleys considered exploits? (i dont really count them so im cool with it)

its all looking MUCH better. get some knights and woop some ass somewhere. have to start deciding where soon. i dont fancy the sumerians if they have crusaders. Maybe england or russia?

got it, will play this afternoon. any thoughts on plan for next turn set?

I was just trying to prevent them from gaining the techs we had over them too quickly so that the other continent would not go to tech lead as there is not much we can do about it unlike with Sumeria, as we can attack them quite easily and are planning to do so too. Game likes to place civs on continents pretty unevenly, so that the continent with human player has more civs which tend to be weaker due to small size and the other continent on the other hand will have less civs that can grow more and can become more powerful.

im not sure on which rules we're using but arent suicide galleys considered exploits?
no they are not condidered an exploit widely. RBCIV rules considers them to be out of honorable tactics, but not exploitive.

Re tech trades: please hold back no techs if you can get decent gold or gpt - especially if you already know another civ near that already knows them. I would only hold them back, if I know to contact more civs on the same landmass very soon, so I could sell them to all in one go. We don't need to give them away for close to nothing either.

@t3h_mo13: I would say, just stay out of war with the AIs on our continent. If a foreign civ demands something, try to get them to declare by refusing and use the war happiness to our advantage.

Please mm cities. There are only 5. It should take only a minute or 2 per turn to optimise them.

Berlin: produces horses with 14spt, but has +5fpt while being size 12 - do I need to explain more?

Leipzig: please check how you can still get the granary in 2 turns while getting more food.

Hamburg: could get more food too

Frankfurt: does not need an aqueduct so soon - what about giving it a harbor?

Bad luck Sumeria researched invention too. You could try to buy mono from Gilgamesh after he sold it to one or the other AI.

Ah yeah i forgot to MM the cities, it didnt come to my mind for some reason. I sold tech when they knew somebody that had it yea, but when we still had monopoly on the techs regarding that continent i held back unless i got good cost out of them.
I tried to deal Sumeria for Mono or Invention but they were more than reclutant to give them to us during my turns and i didnt really want to buy techs at monopoly prices when there is nothing big to gain from it.

preturn: MM cities to the best of my ability, unfortunately one of the few unshared tiles is the irrafated wines. frankfurt could make good use of them.
Change frankfurt to harbour. no culture but only tiles gained would be sea tiles, so that pointless before it has a harbour.
Upgrade all spearman for 120g.

360AD berlin finshes horseman, change to horseman.
Hamburg fniishes harbour, change to horseman.
Rome are at war with the vikings.
Liepzig finshes granary and starts horseman
frankfurt finishes harbour and starts library.

370AD not much, MM
Sell lit to france for 82g and 12gpt

380AD Konigsburg horseman=>horesman

390AD england build suz tzus.
renegotiate furs and ivory for 18gpt so hopefully she wont stop trading after 20 turns.
berlin horse=>horse (we're getting quite a horse army.
hamburg horse =>horse

400AD sumerians building knights templar, leos, and sistine chaple.
liepzig horse=>pikeman

410AD nothing, exploring

420AD berlin horse=>temple (getting rather unhappy wot)
hamburg horse=> horse
konigsburg horse=> horse (we have 11 horsemen...)
dunno how much horse-> knight upgrade is but if we can upgrade we will defo be strong enough for a decent scrap.;

430AD sumerian city of >york< (hadnt noticed that) completes knights templar

440AD nothing.

450AD sumeria declare war on russia. sumeria complete leos.liepzig pike => pike
hamburg horse=> horse
frankfurt library=?trebuchet (next person feel free to change)

460AD trade 280g for horses and silks with sumeria. sumeria gracious
konigsburg horse=> horse
silks make a temple in berlin pointless. not sure what to change to though as everything will waste shields... i will let the next player choose :P

Sorry, but this game gets unfun. It turns around once per day, but it is played without any care. Berlin still is at 14spt - why? If you did not understand what I said above or do not know how to get it to 15 or more please ask.

We are building a colosseum - the most useless building in the game in Berlin - while it is perfectly happy - why?

I got it anyways.
