9th Civ: It's Sweden

Someone over the 2k forum just suggested Venice. Well, the gentleman on the main menu of G&K look pretty much as a venetian merchant for me. It would be a surprise.

Venice, Florence, Papal States or some kind of Italian League would be kind of fun. And it would be a commercial civ to compete against the dutch.

Very true! I think in theory some combo/one of these could make an interesting civ and would easily be a huge surprise. Wasn't thinking of this at all.

Man another european nation.. 2k work hard to put me out of the game...

I really want to see Canada bofere Sweden but if really comes a European nation them i hope for Portugal, once a great nation after all.

Perhaps I'm in the 1st stage yet, but this is not possible. The 9th civ, this whole suspense, it was meant to surprise us all. Another European civ would not do that.

Actually, that would leave me depressed. People were saying the 9th would not be a European one because enough is enough. Then I said we could also see the [huge] amount of European civs as a trend. If only 1/3 of the civs are outside Europe, I guess we can expect something similar for the DLCs. If eventually we get another xpack [which I doubt], be ready to play as Liechtenstein, Monaco and Andorra.

Do you think that they will cover "folkhemmet" (the Socialdemocratic welfare state of the 1930-1980s) aspect of Swedish history as the UA, or will they only focus on the Renascence for the swedisch UU/UB/UA?

That is possible. It could be one of the Doges' but who? Papal states as well, but it not dressed like a Pope would be dressed. Any chance this could be Hungary, Or perhaps Swiss? It may not be a warmonger it could be Venice.

Not saying that it's a good choice or a bad choice, but they could give them any gameplay characteristic they want. Not sure how you can decide already that they wouldn't be fun to play.

Well they can give them whatever characteristic they want, but it wouldn't be fitting of them. To get them something that would fit them would make them just another bland European civ that peaks during the Renaissance Era and isn't that much different than the other ones. That really doesn't add much diversity to the game. The difference between many of these European civs is minimal. I like seeing my rival civilizations in the game look and play significantly different, I don't want them all blending together.

EDIT: Never mind. I agree, must be a renaissance leader (was my first thought too). A bit weird to have both Sweden and the Vikings, though...
The Vikings already have Ski Infantry, so they obviously represent both medieval and renaissance/industrial Scandinavians.

It's not the Vikings or the Scandinavians, it's the Danes from Denmark (and Denmark-Norway). That's why you're being confused, you're misremembering what it is.

For anyone who was naively still holding out hope that it wasn't a European civ, they have uploaded the third picture, and it's a white hand.

This was just posted on civ 5's Facebook page.

Perhaps the Holy Roman Empire?

I would support an Italian civilization! I'm a bit sick of "middle ages to modern" Italy being considered a continuation of the roman civilization ._.

Walking Stick? Interesting. Anyone know if its of any relevance? Or are we still at the consensus of Sweden?
