A Brave New World Part 2

To: Turkey
From: France

For declaring war on Italy, the National Republic of France hereby declares a state of war to exist between herself and the Sultanate of Turkey.

Because I have committments on Saturday and will be needing to make an early start on the update tomorrow to finish on time, no more order revisions will be allowed beyond this point. Only new orders will be accepted.

Because I have committments on Saturday and will be needing to make an early start on the update tomorrow to finish on time, no more order revisions will be allowed beyond this point. Only new orders will be accepted.

Then it looks like I won't be getting that critique. I'm nervous about this turn. Tried something new. Well, here goes nothing...

I thought we still had less than 24 hours remaining... I will have to summarize my defense. :(

Orders should be in soon.

5 March 1940

Today, like so many other days, I have sat in this bunker, rising only to engage the damned Quakers that try to cross the river. Recently, we received ammunition in the form of shells for our howitzer, rifle clips, pistol magazines, and more magazines for our machine pistols. As well as rounds, we received more rations and medical supplies. We had been told a fresh assault from across the river was imminent, and the fresh supplies would help boost our combat readiness when the time came to engage. I think we are more than ready to defend our home and try and show the Quakers we want our freedom.

12 March 1940

This morning we were awoken to the sound of air raid sirens and shouting. Apparently, a Quaker scout plane had flown overhead, and air defense readied for bombers to follow. No bombers came and the scout plane had been shot down about half way to Mount Holly. The pilot didn't survive.

I long to be in in Cape May...to lounge on the beach and listen to the crashing surf. I miss crabbing with the old men by the docks, and boating with my friends from Elizabeth. I swore I could smell the seaside today, but my senses must have been playing tricks on me. If only the Quakers realized how badly we want our independence, then maybe I can see Cape May for the first time in two years.

7 April 1940

Last night, a crew of men silently worked on the banks of the river. It was my watch, so I watched them work until nearly two hours until dawn, having little else to do. Our officer had told us they would be there ahead of time, but never said what they were doing. They had a small raft and a two trucks...they were paddling towards the middle of the river and back. It appeared they were fishing, and I would be happy to eat a perch dinner. It would be a pleasant replacement to a meal of rations.

We're in the single digits until update time now, and there's not going to be nearly as much of a grace period as with other updates. I'm missing a large number of orders, but the update has to go through tonight or wait a long time. A political cartoon is also still desired, but I can make do if no one sends one.

All right, update work is beginning in earnest. Only missing four sets of orders now, and they have been placed as NPC for this turn. Considering the span of time last update took, this should be done approximately around 1 AM EST.

EDIT: I will still allow the missing orders to be sent in before 6 Pm, the posted time.

None of the orders will be accepted any further, the update is well underway and will be completed on schedule. This is looking to be a heck of a fun one.

MILITARY QUALITY ADJUSTED. Prague, Bohemia. The outbreak of war on a global scale has made it apparent to many that the previous standards of military quality barely apply any longer. Particularly with the birth and growth of new militarized aeronautics organizations, it has become clear that these new forces are decisive in modern combat. The destruction of several old-standing institutions of military learning and advancement have also caused the deterioration of other groups. Fortunately for some, the heavy casualties of the modern war have led to the remaining generals and soldiers being the finest left alive. Below are the various changes in status over the past decade.

WORLD WARS: THE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM. St. Petersburg, Russian Federation. The various leaders of the European Allies have made a proclamation this year, led by the Russian Federation and England, calling the World War against France to be a "war for freedom." This rhetoric has continued throughout the year, and the English Prime minister's speech has been circulated through the oppressed nations and colonies of the world, echoing what could be the dawn of a new era of hope and freedom for the people of the globe. Regardless of the high toned words, the fighting of the war has continued unabated from Europe to Asia to North America. Casualties continue to mount on top of previous years, and as before each section of the conflict has been divided into each special section. RIOTS IN ALASKA. Juneau, Alaska. Anti-Swedish riots broke out in Alaska this year, protesting the deployment of Swedish troops as well as the war as a whole, calling for a new Alaskan republic and the end of the Swedish monarchy. The Alaskan Freedom Movement has called for immediate end to Swedish rule and the establishment of Alaskan neutrality in the ongoing World Wars. The slaughters on the front to the south and the deployment of Alaskan soldiers to the front lines have greatly reduced confidence in the standing Alaskan colonial and imperial government, calling for a new change. The riots began when anxious Swedish troops, not understanding Russian, opened fire upon a protesting crowd in Juneau, several riots took place in front of Swedish properties, while martial law has been declared in the nation's capitol. ANNEXATION OF TENNESSEE. Nashville, Georgia. Tensions rose quickly in Tennessee this year, starting with a major Georgian operation to bring full control of Tennessee under the rule of Savannah. Certain officials within the Tennessean military and government anticipated such a move and made efforts to block the takeover. A major coup was launched against the republic, to be suppressed by loyalists and the occupying Georgian forces. Fighting was heaviest in the locale of Nashville, as Georgian officials moved to bring the files and tax data of Tennessee in line with the Georgian government. Using roads built with government funds and the lack of any significant Tennessean military forces on the southern border, the Georgian takeover was initially quite peaceful. The disenchanted elements of the military moved from the border, hoping to halt the Georgian efforts but were repulsed in brutal fighting on the outskirts of Nashville. The Dahl government in Georgia has announced this to be the establishment of a new era in North America, the creation of Greater Georgia.

Tennessee: 13 Infantry Brigades, 1 Artillery Brigade, 2 Anti-Tank Brigades, 1 Hunter Brigade, 2 G-35 Squadrons, 3 BP38 Squadrons

LOUISIANAN ELECTIONS. New Orleans, Empire of Louisiana. The people of Louisiana have spoken out again, after four long years of war and occupation by the United Collectives of North America. As the nation struggles to rebuild from the occupation and devastation caused by gas warfare, the country has become divided by this year's elections. While no party has advocated the ending of the war, presenting a united front to the enemies of the Empire, the Conservatives have blamed the Liberal Party for failing to anticipate the Georgian betrayal. The Conservative Party has called for immediate actions against Georgia, even to the point of renewing a war with the Co-Axial Pact. Despite the growing support for this viewpoint, the Liberal Party has successfully won reelection, campaigning on the bastion that it was their leadership and organization which helped liberate Louisiana in the first place. Nonetheless, the divide has been created once again and numerous people are unhappy with the election's end result. (-1 Stability)

AGRICULTURE SUMMIT IN FLORIDA. Saint Augustine, Florida. The government of Florida has continued its efforts to modernize and develop the nation's agricultural apparatus, and has brought together a massive nation-wide conference to discuss the improvement of methods and to share information among the nation's small business farmers. This event has managed to gain international notice, bringing representatives from the struggling agricultural communities of Georgia and Louisiana, hoping to restore their own tattered moves. Foreign observers have called this part of the New Florida which continues to boom amid a war filled with shadow and warfare. (+1 Stability)

VIRGINIA OPENS MILITARY DOOR FOR NEGROES. Richmond, Virginian Empire. The Virginian Unity Party took a major step this year, calling for all of the Empire's states to make a determination on full Negro draft into the nation's armed forces. The northern and central states were quick to agree to the proposal, with abrupt refusals from Kentucky and Carolina. The Virginian Empire has now brought into the draft nearly a million Negroes of age, welcoming them into service for their country. As an appeasement to the white populace, the government has brought these Negroes into their own separate units, to be led by white officers in combat against the socialist scourge. Despite this effort, some resentment continues to linger among the populous. (-1 Stability, +259 Manpower, +4 Manpower per turn)

SPECIAL: World Wars in North America

STRIKES TURN TO REVOLUTION IN PENNSYLVANIA. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The strikes begun last year have sparked a socialist revolution in Pennsylvania this year. The government, continuing to bring troops against strikers and backing the corporations, have fed the fires of revolution as the workers rose up to fight the forces. Faced with shooting civilians, a number of soldiers have mutinied to the rebellion, refusing to go into service against either New Jersey or those on strike. The mutinies were echoed upon the front lines, as Pennsylvanians turned their weapons upon each other and other Allied forces in a civil war which stretched all the way to the United Collectives. Reinforcements for the government arrived as loyal troops marched all the way from the Metis Republic to provide aid for the government in peril. The Socialist government has accused the Conservatives of not just rigging this year's elections, but those in 1936 and 1932 as well. The socialists have pledged that they are merely installing the duly elected government, blocked by tyrants from achieving their rightful offices. The heaviest fighting of the civil war to date has taken place in the capitol of Pittsburgh as both sides struggle for control of the city.
Casualty List
Socialist Pennsylvania: 8 Infantry Brigades
Republican Pennsylvania: 12 Infantry Brigades, 6 Tyr-1 Brigades

NEW JERSEY REBELLION. Trenton, New Jersey. As Pennsylvania descends into civil war, the government of New Jersey has been spared another onslaught by the Republican forces against them. Despite this reprieve, they have not been one hundred percent freed of the specter of the World Wars. Virginian Rangers were captured in several successful assaults against New Jerseyan artillery positions along the Delaware River, which had previously been used to shell Pennsylvanian naval vessels. The artillery was wiped out, with only a few Virginian casualties, and the New Jerseyan government has protested against Virginian support, "for a decadent and failing state like Pennsylvania."
Casualty List
New Jersey: 4 Artillery Brigades

THE NORTHWESTERN FRONT. New Caen, occupied Republic of New France. The armies of the United Collectives reversed last year's losses as well as making major breakthroughs throughout New France and Lakota territories. The outbreak of civil war in Pennsylvania led to a major mutiny among Pennsylvanian ranks on the frontlines, and the remnants after a brief battle surrendered to the United Collectives' army, leaving a major gap in Allied lines in the region. Thanks to this, socialist forces were able to outflank and encircle a good part of the local Virginian army, slowly pounding away at their forces, ultimately bringing about their destruction, as the shattered remnants of the Allied army fled east. The Allies were pursued with surprising speed as the socialists advanced east, sometimes with the Allies giving up ground too quickly for the socialists to capture it. The Collective army has managed to even once again cross the Missouri River, once more placing the Algonquin Nation under threat of invasion. Further west, the Collectives have slowly pushed the armies of new France north, still unable to beat localized air power. The remnants of the Chinese expedition and the New French army have entrenched in the northernmost parts of the nation, as Alaskan and Swedish reinforcements provide vital assistance in maintaining the line. In the skies of the Lakota, the socialists have managed to gain air superiority, sometimes even managing to overrun Allied airbases before planes could take off. It is clear to many that the Allied front has been utterly smashed.

TEXAN FRONT. Dallas, Texan Republic. The Texan front has been the scene of both great victory and defeat for the North American Allies. Overwhelming Allied forces continued to push deeper into Texas after a brief break for winter this year, slowly driving back the Collectives' army. This became more rapid with a Cuban and Louisianan amphibious assault behind enemy lines at Houston, smashing through defenses to break open the entire southern part of the theater. With the southern flank reeling the Allied armies continued their advance deeper into Texas. Another amphibious operation was soon launched against the Rio Grande, meeting with disaster. Virginian troops, attempting to replicate successes further east and break around socialist lines, met heavy guns and infantry, leading to a slaughter on the beaches, with thousands dead in the surf. The Virginians were stuck on the beach for nearly a month before ground forces relieved them from the east after heavy fighting. The slow advanced ground to a halt just along the Rio Grande and beyond the Texan border, as UCNA defenses finally halted the Allied attacks. The skies in Texas remain disputed, as neither side has gained any sort of advantage. The Allies poured in new fighters from Russia, but failed to gain vital air superiority over the Virginian beachhead, leading the sinking of many ships and too many soldiers into the Gulf surf.

WAR IN CANADA. Toronto, Canada. Fighting continued to take a heavy toll upon Canada this year as the Quebecois war machine pressed forward. Canadian troops launched several spoiling attacks in the hopes of delaying the advance, meeting only slaughter in the wake of the assaults. The Niagara Peninsula was soon besieged as the rest of the country was overrun. The last desperate defense then took place as Canadian and Quebecois troops became bogged down in a war of attrition across the peninsula, and the Canadians were slowly driven back, even into Toronto itself. Arrival of Iroquois reinforcements from across the Great Lakes led to a counter attack which soon pushed the Quebecois out of the center of the city and back into the outskirts. In the skies, the Canada started with an advantage, while as the year progressed, the air corps of the Quebecois grew to unprecedented heights and the Canadian air force front soon collapsed under the pressure. Quebecois fighters have been running limited strafing runs of Canadian positions, further cementing their position deep in Canada.

BAJA ASSAULT. Hermosillo, United Collectives of North America. In addition to the fighting along the Rio Grande further east, the World Wars have finally been brought to western Mexico as well as the eastern parts. A New Englander taskforce, along with one of the first carriers ever built, struck at the Baja Peninsula this year, setting up a base from which to launch raids at the Mexican western coastline and naval bases. Setting up a localized naval base as well as numerous airfields, the New Englanders hastily worked to hold back any Socialist counteroffensives. They were not disappointed and the Collectives launched several minor offensives later in the year, which were handily repulsed thanks to a lack of air support and proper commitment. Light Allied bombing raids hit various western Mexican ports as early as this December.
Casualty List
United Collectives of North America: 7 Infantry Brigades
Republic of New England: 2 Infantry Brigades

BEHIND THE LINES. Sacramento, United Collectives of North America. The liberation of Texas has led to the restoration of Allied control over the region and the recreation of the republican government. In celebration, the Texan Resistance soon came out of hiding, giving its full support to the previously elected government. The end of this front behind Socialist lines was soon met by the creation of a new front, further north. Within the Republic of New France, guerillas and partisans have begun striking at Collective bases and supply lines within not only New France, but the former Nez Perce territory. This has helped hinder socialist attacks against Allied positions near the Alaskan border, sabotaging attempts to push north. The Socialist government has taken harsh measures against the rebels, cracking down on any town or community which harbors them.

Central/South American News Report

ECONOMIC SURGE IN PERU. Lima, Peru. The war has been kind to some regions of the world, which have prospered off the chaotic onslaught of global conflict. Peru, though beseiged from both north and south, has turned about its fate in economic obscurity, providing vital raw resources to the members of the American Allies, which had previously been bought from other locales in South America. Helping to fuel the modern war machine has helped pay for itself, holding back those who would seek to dismantle all that the Peruvian government has fought to achieve in the face of annihilation by the International Socialist Cooperative Group.

STRIKES IN GAUTEMALA. Guatemala City, Guatemala. Various labor unions in Guatemala went on strike this year, protesting the nation's cooperation with the Allies in the ongoing war of aggression against the International Socialist Cooperative Group. The Factory Workers' Union led the effort, shutting down over forty percent of the nation's industrial production and resource exploitation. Corporations have been given backing by the standing government, which has refused to succumb to "socialistic warfare" and has pledged to maintain the status quo. Martial law has been declared in the main industrial centers of Guatemala, and striking has been declared a treasonable offense, punishable by death. Strikers have frequently abandoned their posts at the sign of military troops, but casualties have amounted, as have desertions within the larger army. WAR PROTESTED IN SUSA. Rio de Janeiro, Socialist Union of South America. Rallies of people have turned out against the war in the capitol of the Socialist Union of South America, calling for an end to the violence at any cost. Groups from all over the country have declared that the war against the capitalist powers is futile to many degrees and that the causes and labors of socialism should be directed once again towards domestic affairs. They have also protested violence as any political measure, declaring the standing government to be out of bounds in their efforts. This growing minority movement has called for the end of war at all costs and as soon as possible, as the body count continues to grow, even in stalemate.

CHILE ELECTIONS. Santiago, Chile. The Socialist Party has continued to face the rising threat of the Conservatives this year, as the Conservative Party has found a new platform with which to rally voters. The conservatives have called for an immediate end to both the war against Peru and the occupation of Bolivia. They have announced that the Peruvian government would easily reach a deal, leaving Chile's territory intact while abandoning Bolivia to a new era of republican government. The Conservatives have made a major impact on society, while they have failed to garner the support of the working classes, they have still managed to press a button with much of the population, rallying anti-war efforts, calling for peace with Peru. EL SALVADOR ELECTIONS. San Salvador, El Salvador. The elections in El Salvador had a surprise result this year as the long-standing Conservative Party found itself ousted from power. Though it seemed relatively secure in its position, the rising tensions between Honduras and Guatemala seem to threaten at a new era of war within Central America. The El Salvadorian Liberal Party deftly moved the Conservatives into the public eye as warmongers, likely to embroil the nation in another devastating war for power. The Liberal Party has vowed to maintain the nation's neutrality in any major conflict in both Central America and elsewhere. (+1 Stability)

SPECIAL: World Wars in Central and South America

VENEZUELA FRONT. Caracas, Venezuela. Fighting in Venezuela and the northern parts of the Socialist Union of South America have crawled to a standstill in the eyes of most observers. After several successful Venezuelan offensives earlier in the year, both sides hastily began digging in, going onto the defensive. Neither side made much effort to defeat the other throughout the year, and as both sides dug trenches, it seems that the war isn't going to move any time soon. Limited skirmishes have taken place both among front line soldiers as well as in the skies. The air has seen a heated and escalating battle, as Venezuela fields its first planes while the Socialist Union struggled to maintain control of the air.
Casualty List
Socialist Union of South America: 22 Infantry Brigades, 9 PA-1 Squadrons, 2 PA-3 Squadrons, 4 AFB-01 Squadrons
Venezuela: 34 Infantry Brigades, 2 Anti-Air Brigades, 7 PPDA-38 Squadrons

COLOMBIA FRONT. Bogota, Colombia. In Colombia, neither side seems quite ready to take the initiative or the offensive. The Colombian army has seemed content to rest within their bunkers and fortifications throughout the jungle, digging in ever deeper and preparing for further Socialist attacks. The Socialists pulled back a ways, opening that the Colombians could be drawn out of their positions for easier destruction from the skies. However, they failed and soon dug in on their own, awaiting any sort of offensive by the Colombian army. Socialist engineers have quickly begun digging in and building fortifications of their own, awaiting attack from the capitalist enemy. The skies have remained remotely clear, with the Socialists being unable to reach any targets of importance, and only occasionally bombing the front lines themselves.
Casualty List
Socialist Union of South America: 7 Infantry Brigades
Colombia: 7 Infantry Brigades

NORTHERN PERUVIAN FRONT. Lima, Peru. Socialist forces in northern Peru continued their defensive policy which began after hitting Colombian and New Englander forces the previous year. Though it is believed Allied forces may have weakened later in the year to reinforce the fight against Chile, the overall commander of the region has still refused to launch any large scale military operations against the Peruvian government and their allies in the area. Limited fighting took place between Colombian and Socialist Union ground forces, consisting mostly of small scale skirmishes and defensive actions. No air battle was waged here, as neither side brought significant numbers of planes to bear against their enemies.
Casualty List
Colombia: 5 Infantry Brigades
Socialist Union of South America: 5 Infantry Brigades

SOUTHERN PERUVIAN FRONT. Santiago, Chile. Chilean forces started off the fighting in southern Peru this year with wild success, driving the Peruvian army out of Bolivia and all the way out of Chile proper. This was followed with a small invasion of Peru itself, as the Chilean armies drove further and further north against the Allied country. The offensive was soon stopped and pushed back, as New Englander forces from the north were brought to bear against the Chilean army, the combined Allied forces managed to drive south, once more putting Chile on the defensive and threatening Chile proper with invasion. In the skies, the Chilean army dominates all contenders, knocking out Allied tanks and singlehandedly delaying the enemy advance just short of the border.
Casualty List
Chile: 51 Infantry Brigades, 9 Mountain Brigades, 5 Artillery Brigades, 7 PA-1 Squadron, 2 PA-3 Squadrons, 3 SUDB-01 Squadrons
Peru: 39 Infantry Brigades, 7 Artillery Brigades, 2 Anti-Tank Brigades, 10 Oliver Mk2 Squadrons
Republic of New England: 15 Infantry Brigades

ARGENTINE CIVIL WAR. Buenos Aires, United Atlantic Cities. Socialist forces in Argentina finally launched offensives of their own this year, driving against the UAC army, until hitting against a solid brick wall of armed forces. UAC Anti-Tank was quickly brought to bear against the armored forces of the Argentine Collectives Federation, devastating their tactics and front lines, even after losing some small territory. Heavy urban fighting erupted in the north, along the Rio Parana, as both sides struggled to preserve control of the city. Ultimately the Collectives proved victorious, but at a hefty cost. The bloody battle left both sides too drained to keep up a strong fight for much of the year, though both sides are definitely using the reprieve to begin arming themselves for another round of combat. The Collectives managed to secure the skies early in the year, as new planes from Portugal began to dry up in Atlantic ports.
Casualty List
Argentine Collectives Federation: 52 Infantry Brigades, 2 Artillery Brigades, 17 AVB-02 Brigades
United Atlantic Cities: 37 Infantry Brigades, 10 Anti-Tank Brigades, 2 PPDA-38 Squadrons

REPUBLICANS DEMONSTRATE IN PRUSSIA. Berlin, Prussia. German nationalist republicans demonstrated against the regime this year, as French troops were moved through to wage war on the Russian Federation. Protesting the Prussian "betrayal of the higher German cause," the protesters have escalated violence, even destroying railyards and other locations used for the transit of troops to the eastern front. The Republican Resistance has called for the Prussian government to step down and the forces of the army to desert and join the resistance against French domination. Various Kommando units from the Republic of Germany have been given credit for some operations both within Prussia and the occupied German Republic. The Prussian monarchy has denounced the "decadent republican movement" as being contrary to the new spirit of Europe and has deployed troops to the countryside to maintain order against the rebels. DANISH ELECTIONS CANCELLED. Christiansburg, Danish Empire. The occupation of Copenhagen and the Danish Empire in Europe has led to the Danish government declaring an immediate state of emergency throughout the empire and giving the king and his cabinet absolute authority. The nation's Parliament has been temporarily disbanded, in order to cut through red tape and allow more efficient deployment of Denmark's military and resources. King Christian X, while stating that the ruling does grant him theoretical absolute authority, he fully intends on relinquishing said power upon the conclusion of the war with France.

ENGLAND ELECTIONS. London, England. As many still bitterly remember the appearance of Portuguese zeppelins over London back in 1938, the government of the Conservative Party has managed to maintain landslide majorities throughout the country. They have pledged to win the war against the French Empire at any cost, bringing freedom and a new global order in the conflict's wake. They have not taken an official position on the success of the southern Irish uprising, but have pledged that they will not abandon English positions and defense of the "good protestants of Ulster." Some critics within the Liberal Party have pointed out that perhaps before the English government starts speaking of a war for freedom, they should look to obtain full freedom within their own borders first. FRENCH IMPERIAL ELECTIONS. Paris, France. Elections for position of Consul took place this year throughout the French Empire, and surprisingly to none, the Lisist Party has dominated the majority of seats and the Consulship has once again returned to La Rocque. In a triumphant speech to the French people in Paris, the Consul has promised that glory shall continue to mount within the French Empire with each passing year, as the nation's enemies continue to flee against the onslaught of the New Order. Foreign observers and the Allies have declared that the elections were most likely fraudulent, the Lisist display of democracy which have long since died in Paris.

RUSSIAN ELECTIONS. St. Petersburg, Russian Federation. The Jugashvili government in the Russian Federation faced crisis this year as the armies of the Axis advanced deep into Russia and the Ukraine. With so much territory under enemy occupation, the government went into a panic, as districts were unable to casts their votes for leadership. Faced with no constitutional recourse and confused on proceedings, elections quickly became a muddled mess, as the Jugashvili Faction returned to power. The president has vowed to end the Lisist threat once and for all and at any cost for total victory. Despite this, the confused nature of the proceedings and internal confusion have led some to accuse the president of sidestepping the democratic process and leading Russia into a war which it cannot win. SKIRMISHES IN BRITAIN. Edinburgh, Scotland. Even as Portuguese air raids against southern England dwindled to nuisance raids this year against mounting casualties in 1939, two new threats may be raising their heads against the English crown this year. The first of these is a series of minor border skirmishes in the no-man's-land along the English and Scottish border. Scottish tank commanders have become known to probe English defenses, and the skirmishes have occasionally escalated. Fighting overall has been limited and casualties low, but many fear this soon could escalate into total war once again on the British Islands.

IRISH UPRISING. Dublin, Irish Republic. Encouraged by the continuing Allied defeats in the ongoing World Wars, the Irish people have rallied together and overthrown the English rule over much of southern Ireland. Collaborators have been lynched by angry mobs and Protestant chapels have been burned by vengeful Irish. English bases in the region have been crushed by unruly mobs, though they have shown some displays of heroism. The English Commando base in Dublin held out for two full months under siege in their compound until the Irish finally broke through and slaughtered them. Though the mobs have been unsuccessful in driving the Protestants out of their strongholds in northern Ireland, a new government coalition has been formed in Dublin, proclaiming the Free Irish Republic and victory over the Crown of England.

Ireland: 20 Infantry Brigades
England: 14 Infantry Brigades, 1 Commando Brigade

A NEW BATTLE FOR THE BALTIC. Copenhagen, occupied Danish Empire. The Allies made a bid to secure control once again of the Baltic Sea, but have met with utter disaster. Attempts to secure control of the skies failed miserably as Axis planes dominated the air, devastating all those who opposed them. The various Allied navies attempted to lure the French fleet out of their shelter in the Baltic, but failed. The capture of Bornholm by French soldiers further cemented Axis control over the sea. The Russians attempted to push the French Navy out of the Baltic later in the year, after the completion of one of their first aircraft carriers. The result was a major disaster, As the French Navy and Air Force met against the Russian Navy with some supporting Swedish craft in the Baltic, winning a major victory. French dive bombers from Bornholm slaughtered the Russian vessels, as the limited air support from the single carrier brought to battle led to the task force's bloody defeat. With the Russian Navy smashed again, the remaining Allied fleets withdrew from the struggle, with the foreseen trap being a failure and the French Navy in safe Baltic waters.

INVASION OF SWEDEN. Stockholm, Swedish Empire. With the victory in the Baltic Sea against the Russian Navy, the French have launched a long-anticipated invasion of Sweden. The battle for Sweden has not been a rapid paced struggle which has so far symbolized the invincibility of the French armed forces. Instead, the invasion has been met with set back after set back, as the French army falls just short of Stockholm. Swedish forces were ready on the beaches and the fledgling French Marine Corps met with bloody beaches and a rough uphill climb against the Swedes. Eventually the Swedes were forced back under superior airpower and fire from the seas, but each inch of ground has been given at a heavy cost for the French army during the advance. Even when French tanks got on the ground, the Swedes have successfully prevented any major breakthrough. The French army has faced a bloody grind across the Swedish hills in a ever-slowing advance upon Stockholm. In the skies the French started with ultimate superiority, having bombed Swedish bases in the south to rubble early in the year. By the end of the year, the Swedes unleashed massive waves of bombers from the north, hoping to overrun French air defenses, and at a heavy cost, they occasionally did, inflicting damages upon the landing area.

INVASION OF RUSSIA. Moscow, Russian Federation. The Russian Federation is in chaos in the wake of the ongoing French offensive deep into the heart of Russia and the Ukraine. The year began on a hopeful note as Allied troops, led by Russian armed forces, launched an offensive back into occupied Hungary. Joyous crowds which met the advance soon fearfully watched a retreat as the Russian army entered into grave peril. French troops operating out of Prussia and Romania launched a major encirclement of the bulk of the Allied army in Hungary. Over one million Russian troops were soon trapped within a massive French encirclement. Several breakouts were made, including of the Free Hungarian army, which used its knowledge of the terrain to escape from the trap nearly unscathed. The Axis forces soon closed the noose around the Allied army, and deep within the Carpathian Mountains the Russian army was forced to surrender, marking the largest surrender in Russian history. The French army continued its moves east, meeting lackluster resistance and pulling off several smaller encirclements, such as at Minsk, Kharkov, Riga, and Odessa. What's left of the shattered Allied forces finally managed to regroup as a strained supply line and winter brought the French armed forces to a halt. Many believe that the French offensive will return next year, and in greater numbers. In the skies, the Russian air force has been wiped out by superior numbers and arms of the combined Axis nations.

ASSAULT ON CONSTANTINOPLE. Constantinople, occupied Russian Federation. Russian forces made an effort to break the Co-Axial Pact's control over the Mediterranean Sea this year, launching an amphibious assault upon Constantinople and Bulgaria. The Bulgarians have been prepared for such a move and the heights around Constantinople were bristling with heavy guns as the Russians neared. Russian marines hit the beaches under heavy naval bombardment, entering into a hail of machine gun and artillery fire, devastating the ranks. When casualties passed the twenty thousand mark, the local commander gave the word to abandon the operation. The Russian forces were soon rushed to the front lines in Eastern Europe as French forces began to near Sevastopol and the naval base there.

BEHIND THE LINES. Geneva, Switzerland. Effort against French control in Europe does not only take place on the great battlelines of Northern and Eastern Europe. Fighting continues even at home, as English commandoes have been caught hitting various targets, even in French proper. Several pitched battles have erupted between the commandoes and local regulars, usually with limited English victories. French attempts to close down the Channel to these raiders have so far met with failure. In Germany, the Resistance grows, as it is confirmed that German Kommandoes have met up with the Resistance and numerous high priority targets have been hit through the whole region, delaying the flow of supplying to the front in the Russian Federation. The Greek Resistance has also won several minor victories against Italian and French occupiers, holding together against the invaders.

COUP IN ARABISTAN. Ahvaz, Arabistan. The Ohkovat government in Arabistan was toppled this year after a brief, but bloody civil war in the Middle Eastern nation. A rival general, denouncing the corruption of the regime, and gaining the support of various labor unions within the country, launched a major effort to establish his own rule over the country. Unfortunately, not all of the military agreed with the ambitious new model the rising star of Payam Kiyanfar, and supported the failing Ohkovat government. The brutal civil war which followed was fought as the unions rose against the government, hoping to bring about a change. Eventually, the armies supporting Kiyanfar emerged victorious, after a brutal struggle, and a new dawn has arrived in the nation of Arabistan. RIOTS IN LIBERIA. Forsythville, Liberia. Brutal anti-government riots broke out this year against the Conservative Party's seeming ignorance of Nova Brazilian and French atrocities against local populations. The shutting down of the Liberal Party has also risen as a major issue, and hidden speakers for the resistance have denounced this move, hoping that truly free elections will be held in 1943 as scheduled. The Liberal Socialist Party has risen to the forefront of the movement, calling for equal rights for all Africans within Liberian borders, and the liberation of their brothers in neighboring Nova Brazil and Nijeria. The recent continuing success of the Danes in Nijeria have led some to hope that with the cries that this war means freedom for Africa as well as Europe. (-1 Stability)

UPRISING CRUSHED IN NOVA BRAZIL. Porto Pedro, Nova Brazil. As French forces moved in to outflank Danish positions on the Niger River, the native population of Nova Brazil rose up in arms once again, hoping to win a victory against their oppressors. Brazilian and French troops managed to suppress the uprising, bombing numerous villages and communities in their attempts to preserve control. The fighting however, may well have bought time for Danish defenders to the north, alerting them to the dire situation on their flanks, threatening the colony. Danish troops are said to have provided limited assistance to the rebels, sneaking in arms and weapons, and provoking the tribes to rebellion. The Nova Brazilian government has stated that this shall be the last time the Danish Empire meddles in the affairs of the Brazilian people.

COUP FAILS IN PALESTINE. Al Quds, Palestine. The unstable position within Palestine with the growing divides between Jews, Christians , and Muslims, led to an attempt to overthrow the nation's democratic government this year. Islamic elements within the military, hoping to establish a radical government to control Christian and Jewish movements throughout the nation, launched a bid for power, using military forces to move into Al Quds. The government was fortunately able to hear warning sounds of the plot a month ahead of the move, and were able to take proper precautions. The leaders of the coup have been summarily arrested, after a quick battle in the city streets. Several other leaders with ties to the rebels have been detained to be held for trial for treason against the Palestinian government. (+2 Stability, -2 Infantry Brigades)

UPRISING GROWS WITHIN ARABIA. Riyadh, Rashid Arabia. The Rashid government continues to face rising resentment at home, even as the nation faces defeat on the battlefield against New England and its protectorate, Yemen. Opposing family groups have continued to arm themselves against the government once more, fighting against the nation's centralization and disastrous policies. The various families have continued to strike against military bases and supply lines all within or near the Arabian desert, then have managed to disappear, leaving behind few tracks and luring many into deadly ambush. The Arabian government's response has not materialized, as they seem paralyzed as a war of attrition and stalemate develops in Yemen. (-11 Infantry Brigades)

RAIDERS IN MOROCCO. Algiers, France. The French government and colonial authorities have reported several waves of well-armed marauders throughout eastern and central Morocco this year, striking at military installations and other bases. They have also systematically attacked any French citizens within the region, slaughtering all foolish enough to leave the safety of the sight of French soldiers. The rising has escalated throughout the year, as the raiders have begun using captured French material from overrun bases and troop positions throughout Morocco. So far, efforts to round up these resistance leaders have proven unsuccessful, as more and more troops were brought away from the region to fight on other African fronts. (-2 Infantry Brigades)

RIOTS IN ZULULAND. Zimbabwe, France. French authorities in the former Zulu Empire met with continuing hassles and difficulties this year, much like the 1937 rebellion against both France and Denmark. In the more urban regions of the colony, the citizens rose in riot against French rule, encouraged by English and Russian propaganda efforts. They hoped that with rebellion they could oust French rule and restore freedom to them and their people. Unfortunately, the riots never reached a major stage and the local French military garrison was soon moved in, crushing the uprising without barely breaking a sweat.

PERSIAN ELECTIONS. Tehran, Persia. The coalition in Persia collapsed this year, as Liberals and Conservatives divided once again over national policy. The Conservative Party blamed Liberal members of government for losing rightfully Persian territory to the upstart nation of Kurdistan. The following elections were based on this platform, calling for a "Persian resurgence" and a rebirth of the nation and perhaps even the Persian Empire. The Conservative Party managed to rally the support of the people, sweeping them into a nationalist fervor, as they announced plans to build up the nation's military and to begin the development of a Persian-aligned Middle East. EGYPT ENTERS THE WAR. Alexandria, Egypt. In support of the Russian Federation and the Turkish Sultanate, the Egyptian government has entered the war against the Co-Axial Pact. In response, the governments of Italy and France have cooperated in an assault from three sides against Egypt. The Italians first met with disaster at Alexandria, where waiting Egyptian guns and planes were more than enough to shatter the invasion fleet sent to secure the city. The Italian troops were massacred on the beaches and at sea, as the fleet withdrew. Fortunately, the attack acted as a diversion as Italian forces successfully landed in the east, capturing the Suez Canal in a quick attack, humiliating the Egyptian army, and hanging onto it, despite relentless attacks throughout the year. A French attack from Libya met with failure, halted at a natural chokepoint known as El Alamein by a desperate defense by the Egyptian army. In the south, Cairo has fallen to a French advance, but the rough terrain and seasonal flooding has prevent a rapid attack as occurred elsewhere in the world. In the skies, through overwhelming numbers produced throughout the year, the Egyptian air force has gained air superiority, strafing supply ships to the Italian landing and causing no end of problems for the Axis forces, helping to keep them halted in their paths.

NIJERIAN FRONT. Christiansburg, Danish Empire. Danish forces have managed to win a resounding victory against strained French troops in Africa this year. The French army, desperate for a success in Nijeria, attempted to outflank Danish lines along the Niger River with an attack through Nova Brazil, with limited local support. Information from local tribes helped the Danes prepare for the attack, so when the French forces arrived, they were ready and waiting. The French invasion did manage to make some headway in the west, but by the end of the year they had been decisively halted. The skies may have attributed to this, as almost all French planes were deployed to the north, as the invasions of Sweden and Russia heated up.

INVASION OF TURKEY. Ankara, Turkish Sultanate. Italian forces, supported by French armor, launched a massive offensive into the Turkish Sultanate this year, following the Turkish declaration of war upon the Co-Axial Pact of Nations. The main Italian army was deployed to this theater and overwhelming numbers started the campaign in their favor, but the advantage disappeared as the year went onward. Despite French advice and leadership, the Italian armies bogged down in the face of dogged resistance by the veteran Turkish army. Casualties have been heavy as the Italian army digs in against possible Turkish counter attack. The Italians have managed to make some advances, placing Ankara under siege, as planes and artillery bombard the city constantly, threatening it with destruction as the war rages onward. In the skies, The Axis has gained air superiority, particularly with the raid upon the main production plants in Ankara of the AS-124. The Turkish air corps has been suffering grevious casualties against the veteran Italians and Portuguese, who have fought numerous battles in the skies of Europe.

TUNISIA ENTERS THE WAR. Tunis, Tunisia. The government of Tunisia entered the war this year with a minor attack into French Libya. Faced with the need for troops on more essential theaters of the war, the French initially were forced to give ground against the attackers. Once reinforcements were brought in, the tide soon changed, as a small French force completely reversed the situation. The Tunisians, meeting up against a token French force, with A-39 tank support, were utterly routed in a pitched battle, pursued by the French all the way back to the border. Limited fighting has taken place since then, with the Tunisians being given an incredibly bloody nose for little cost to the Co-Axial Pact.

FIGHTING IN SOMALIA. Mogadishu, France. Local French garrisons in Somalia made an attempt for personal glory this year in the war against the European Alliance of Nations. A small force was assembled to occupy Swedish Somalia, expecting limited resistance by the garrison. Unfortunately for the French, the Swedish garrison was larger than anticipated, and they managed to inflict a humiliating defeat upon the minor French force. Using local planes and their superiority to their advantage, Swedish bombers pummeled French positions, securing a victory on the battlefield.

France: 2 Infantry Brigades
Swedish Empire: 1 Infantry Brigade

THE SWEDISH CONGO. New Stockholm, Swedish Empire. A similar attack as the one in Somalia took place with a French attack upon the Swedish Congo, hoping to achieve occupation of the colony. Though slightly better planned and organized than the fighting in Somalia, the French still failed to force out the Swedish Empire. The possession of air superiority and far greater numbers helped the Swedes to win a major victory over the French force, helping to maintain at least some Allied possessions in Africa from French imperial control.

YEMEN WAR CONTINUES. Sana'a, Yemen. Rashid Arabian and New Englander imperial forces continued to engage throughout the nation of Yemen this year, as New Englander bombers continue to inflict a heavy toll upon fixed Arabian positions and tanks. Anything near a coastline is quickly bombarded into oblivion by the New Englander navy, and the Arabian navy has been effectively sent to the bottom of the Indian Ocean. The Allied forces managed to push the Arabians further north this year, securing a major victory against the Arabians, though the larger numbers has made it difficult to dislodge them with heavy casualties. New England continues to indisputably control the air, bombing anything that moves, until the Ospreys ran out of ammunition once again.

ASSASSINATION IN KOREA. Seoul, Korean Empire. The Korean Empire mourned this year with the assassination of Emperor Yi Cheok to an unidentified gunman during a speech in Seoul advocating the war effort and rejoicing in the victory over the Russian army to the south. The Korean government has not stated the background of the culprit who shot the nation's great leader, but has pledged to launch a full investigation. Popular opinion appears to be that it was a thoroughly Russian or Chinese plot to overthrow the Korean government in the ongoing war. In order to preserve the stability of the monarchy in these trying times, the emperor's nine year old son has been inaugurated as King of Korea. A regency of cabinet members has been established to rule until the new king's seventeenth birthday in 1948. The people have rallied behind the government in these trying times to help with Korea's desperate circumstances in the World Wars. (+1 Stability)

PROTESTS TURN TO RIOTS IN CHINA. Lanzhou, Republic of China. A large number of Chinese citizens, unemployed and bitter over personal and familial losses over the past forty years, turned out in major protests against the wars China is involved in this year. They have denounced warfare, calling it futile, and calling for the resources being spent in the nation's military to be refocused to continuing efforts to rebuild the shattered country from the Civil War. These people have called for an immediate closure to the war in Sinkiang as well as the full withdrawal of any remaining troops in North America, denouncing the government and greatly influencing this year's elections. Unfortunately, a local commander remained trigger happy and opened fire upon the crowds, killing several dozen, the crowd then mobbed the soldiers, killing several and badly injuring others. The riots devastated several regions around the capitol in Lanzhou, and martial law was temporarily declared as the military secured important government buildings against the rioters. REPUBLIC OF CHINA ELECTIONS. Lanzhou, Republic of China. The KMT saw the rise of first party resistance this year, challenging the establishment of a single-party state in the Republic of China. The disillusionment with the wars in North America and Sinkiang, as well as high unemployment rates in the cities, has helped a new force gain strength. The Chinese Traditionalist Party, has been brought to life, even swaying support among the populace. The Traditionalists have called memories back to the old days of the Empire, claiming that they can help reclaim the simple prosperity of the emperors. While not advocating a restoration of the old monarchy, they have called for new policies to emerge, particularly a change in the direction of the current reconstruction program. They have gained a considerable amount of support, calling the KMT warmongers, hoping for a conflict to further increase their power over the people of China. They have gained a very significant bloc within the Congress of the country, though the KMT still continues to hold the Presidency and majority. (-1 Stability)

INVASION OF JAPAN. Hiroshima, occupied Korean Empire. Dutch and Russian forces based out of Vladiostock launched a major offensive against the Korean Empire this year, to deprive them of their prized colonial possession of Japan. Riling up support from modern Japanese nationalists, as well as from the traditionalist samurai in the countryside, the country seethed with rebellion as the Allied troops landed. The invasion began with Dutch landings on Honshu, securing the town of Hiroshima and pushing inland. They were soon met by a strong Korean army on the island and quickly bogged down in brutal fighting in the hills and mountains, as the samurai and other rebels struck at Korean supply lines. The Dutch would likely have been overrun if not for the arrival of plentiful reinforcements from Russia, following the failure of the amphibious invasion of Korea. Other Russian forces were also then deployed against Kyushu, the center of rebellion in Japan, particularly against the Portuguese. The Portuguese put up a stubborn fight for the island, but a lack of supplies and overwhelming Russian numbers, soon lead to a collapse of resistance. In the skies, the Russian army has had undisputed control, along with some limited Dutch support from recently built airbases.

SIEGE OF KOREA. Seoul, Korean Empire. The mainland of the Korean Empire has fallen under direct siege by an incredibly hostile enemy, the Russian Federation. Massive amounts of troops and weapons have been directed against Korea from the north, as the Russian Federation makes attempts to break the natural walls of the fortress that is the Korean Empire. The first part of this is a massive bombing campaign which was hastily abandoned by the Russians, facing major resistance from the booming Korean Air Force. Though they managed to inflict harsh damages and casualties upon the Koreans, the casualties brought upon the Russian Air Arm have proven too high to proceed with the current strategies. An amphibious attack met with disaster in the south, as surprise allowed the Russian army to gain a foothold over southern Korea. However, the Koreans soon amassed their considerable reserves and quickly inflicted heavy losses upon the landing force, causing them to withdraw to help with the more successful Japanese offensives. Lastly, fighting has continued along the northern border to a light degree as both sides parry for favorable positioning in the mountains.
Casualty List
Korean Empire: 10 Infantry Brigades, 2 Cavalry Brigades, 28 PPDA-38 Squadrons
Russian Federation: 9 Marine Brigades, 11 Infantry Brigades, 17 AS-Zero Squadrons, 17 S-20 Squadrons

WAR FOR SINKIANG. Urumqi, occupied Sinkiang. The hasty withdrawal of Russian forces from Sinkiang to fight in the west led to a quick power vacuum that the hastily assembled cavalry rear guard of the Russian Federation were unable to handle. With the massive Chinese army advancing from the east, the warlord of Sinkiang led the bulk of his forces out of the fortifications surrounding Urumqi and into the mountains of Central Asia, smashing the remaining Russian forces as well as a smaller Chinese army attempting to claim the territory. The warlord of Sinkiang has vowed to fight on from the mountains, daring any Republican soldiers to come after him.

Reviews of the Arts

Matty and the Gold-Diggers of 1888
Type: Stage Performance
Genre: Comedy
Location: New York City, Republic of New England
Running Time: 145 minutes
Summary: The strains of war and conflict have taken a harsh toll on struggling New Englander film companies, particularly with most studios being based out of devastated Puerto Rico. The plight of the New Yorker people has not gone unnoticed and a group of stage players within New York City have begun staging free performances along one of the older city streets. These performances are quite unlikely any before it, being made in the form of moving pictures, to entertain the masses without the pocket change to go to the cinema. Matty and the Gold-Diggers of 1888 has proven to be the most popular among these, telling a comedic tale of corruption and decadence within the Republic of Albany's government in the late nineteenth century. The play also pokes a good deal of fun against the Republic of New England and their occupation of the New York area.

The Lost Regiment
Type: Moving Picture
Genre: Historical Fiction
Producer: Beria Productions
Running Time: 93 minutes
Summary: This film has been in the works since 1938, but has suffered numerous setbacks and budget problems thanks to the ongoing World Wars. The latest in these was when the leadership of Beria Productions fled Odessa and Kinograd as the armies of the Co-Axial Pact advanced upon the position. Showing that the business of making movies was continuing nonetheless, Beria Productions released The Lost Regiment from their new, hopefully temporary headquarters outside of Tsarityn. The film is a war epic about Russian volunteers in North America, fighting alongside Allied troops in the defense of Baton Rouge against the threat of communism. Portraying the conflict under the Allied theme of a good fight for freedom, the film has achieved moderate success throughout the Russian Federation and Allied states.

My army and especially my airforce was extremely active this decade. No change in quality?

Hrm. Ye should have had arms and air growth this year, not sure how I missed you bombshoo.

I did follow your orders. They failed in almost all respects or the enemy came up with plans which countered your plans. In some areas, your local commanders salvaged what they could.
