A New Dawn Bug Reports and Feedback

I like to have many buildings as well. More choices. :)
I like more choices when they are meaningful, like the new improvements they added with Civ4 from Civ3 for example. Now more choices like having two of the same units such as the Battlecruiser and the Dreadnought that have the same stats are not so interesting.

Okay, feedback:

1) Trade Caravans graphics are WAY TOO BIG, imho, they're like two and a half tiles! They're bigger than the cities.

2) The Tile Hover feature seems to not show the % of Civ ownership anymore, i'd like this feature back. Is longitude & latitude used somewhere in the game?

3) The BUG "Option-Key-Shortcut" seems to want to reset itself to showing on every savegame re-load regardless if it was disabled before.

4) The burn forest/jungle needs a slash&burn icon, it's one of the first icons i *really noticed* needing its own graphic, the axe graphic is too confusing to newbies at first (like me).

5) Is being able to construct a mine outside one's city border (neutral areas) a RoM:AND feature? If so, i like it, if not well...

Note: I noticed that when the city lost the religion that the religious building left the queue unfinished, later i changed my State Religion to that religion and continued the build of that building - is this what is being refereed to above? If so, it appears to be a feature, but if not i've yet to see the issue arise, will look for it, going to Classical Era soon.

@Unity.Zero: Could you upload just the last 2-3 savegames, that zipped folder is a .5GB download!

@Amorph: I could not *even* load your savegame without and error on a WinXP x32 AMD Quad core 4GB RAM system, it CTD'd after consuming ~700MBs of system RAM, it got just past the Earth with clouds image, my normal games run 1.2GBs of RAM or more.

I think there is an option under the AND settings in the BUG options.

That is a RoM feature.

Great! I had a patch for this but mislaid it in the latest upgrade.... Edit: found it! See attached it also upgrades the trade caravan to freight. If you have my mods it goes in the DancingHoskuld/Custom_units folder. If not make a DancingHoskuld folder and put it in there.

2) ..... Is longitude & latitude used somewhere in the game?

Some buildings et al require the city to be at specific latitudes eg the SDI project. So this is nice information.

3) The BUG "Option-Key-Shortcut" seems to want to reset itself to showing on every savegame re-load regardless if it was disabled before.

AND feature because of all the questions that are answered "that's in the BUG options screen."

5) Is being able to construct a mine outside one's city border (neutral areas) a RoM:AND feature? If so, i like it, if not well...

Basic RoM feature.

3) The BUG "Option-Key-Shortcut" seems to want to reset itself to showing on every savegame re-load regardless if it was disabled before.

AND feature because of all the questions that are answered "that's in the BUG options screen."

Umm, is this really necessary? In BUG, the message already appears at the start of each session. But you can prevent it from doing so by un-selecting the respective option. If the player does this, then the message has also fulfilled its purpose: the player now knows about the BUG option menu. And when he knows it well enough, he can switch the auto-display of the message off.

AND forces the player to manually switch the message off at the start of each and every session, no matter whether the message still helps him or rather annoys him. Personally I like the BUG implementation better since it gives me the freedom to permanently remove the message.

I know it annoys experienced players, but I've still had 5x as many questions about where the AND settings are then complaints about the forced display message. If you manage to raise the average IQ 20 points, I'll remove it, mkay? ;)

1. It is easy to reduced the size to .3, just PM me.
2. It is really easy to remove it, as i posted in an earlier thread posting, just PM me.

Also has anyone else having the problem of saved game not working properly?? All of my games just recently, are not working, after the Medieval era? Once i got to the Industrial era, then poof gone CTD(while loading a saved game), only on stopping a game, then trying to use the saved game (two different games)?

I found that 15% faster production of units and buildings with certain resource have no effect in game. Is there anyone who saw this before?

Regarding my last post 2)... Does anyone know how to turn back on the Tile's Civ ownership %'s on hover? I can't locate it under the AND settings or in the BUG options.

@StrategyOnly: I don't have the PM features enabled, is there any chance you'd post the link(s) or tell us all, i could gratefully learn if led enough. In the mean time till the next patch that is, i'll get started with Dancing Hoskuld's patch. (Thanks DH!)

Like so? (seems to work)
G:\Game Files\Civilization IV\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Rise of Mankind\Assets\Modules\DancingHoskuld\TradeCaravanUpgrades
Or like so?

@Afforess: Sorry, i cannot agree with you at all on that one, not a smart solution to the issue imho.

Another bug, seems we cannot make changes to the BUG in-game, maybe it was the BUG:Scoreboard:color/ratio changes i made that crashes it(?), i have a screen pic of it and a savegame, it crashes on the next turn when i choose to produce another chariot in Liguria and then press W.

Harsh :D but soooooooooo true......

I can't confirm that, however patch H is not save compatible to previous versions, at least in my experience......

Is there anyway to turn off finding improvements on the land? I currently am in 5900BC or so, and next to my capital is two Modern Mines, a number of roads, and at least one tunnel. It kinda breaks the flow of the game.

Sorry, I'm afraid I think I lost the save file.

i have uploaded just the two save games. one that works and one that crashes. they are just couple of ingame turns apart. as i wrote earlier i have A New Dawn v1.74 (Patch H) with no additional modifications EXEPT the QuibinG Ethnic unit pack v1.4.

thx...

It may have accidentally removed, I'll look into it.

So you do agree, it is a solution though, yes? I'm totally open to hearing your bright ideas. Seriously though, I haven't seen any complaints about RoM Settings since I changed it, so it seems to be working.

You are getting complaints, but just from the high IQ people now. ;) Indeed, there are an infinite number of "solutions", my suggestion is that you set it and gray it out. On the backside, tell us how/where to safely disable it. BTW, Kudos for a great great mod mod! =)

I don't have the PM features enabled, is there any chance you'd post the link(s) or tell us all, i could gratefully learn if led enough.

Well then turn it on, it doesnt hurt anything. You only get PM's from CFC people.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), you're a minority, and thus, easier to oppress with my harsh modding designs. :mischief:

You can easily disable the notifications yourself: Go to Rise of Mankind/Assets/Python/Afforess and open the ANewDawnSettings.py. Search the file and remove every line that says this: "MainOpt.setShowOptionsKeyReminder(True)" ;)

While the upgrade and promote unit buttons are nice I think they should be global options rather than a per unit choice and feel they just clutter the screen. Also the blue glow on units is happening before the battle finishes so you know the outcome early which means why bother with the battle animations at all.

Auto-Promote is already a global option - in fact, it shipped with BTS. I like having it available on a unit-by-unit basis as well, but I guess I can add options to disable them from the screen.

I like the per unit promote feature, but how to know it is on and how turn it off on a per unit basis i would also like to know, are there buttons? Globally, it is in the BUG or ESC screens IIRC. The glow is preemptive on all units, but i seem to recall losing even though i glowed in battle (got promoted).

Cor'e =),

Should we discuss the technical details in some other thread/PM/email? Otherwise we will have troubles in finding the related posts between other unrelated ones.

Just to mention, though: this save definately loads on my machine. But this is a huge map and it had a MAF error before I used an "app can handle >2gb memory" feature.

Also, to clarify, are you the one who is handling this issue or you have just tried to load it? I think it has to be something with the WinXP 32bit ... (not with the OS itself of course, but that's the only reason i see so far and I am good at diagnosing issues since that is what I do for a living:)
