The fifth book in George R. R. Martin's sweeping fantasy series that began way back in 1996 is slated for release on July 12th of this year. Fans of the series will rejoice after waiting nearly 6 years since the release of the fourth installment, A Feast for Crows in 2005. I nearly cried and fell out of my chair when I opened my e-mail this morning and topping the list was a message from Borders titled "BOOK NEWS: New George R.R. Martin Coming Soon! Pre-order Now!"

For a mere 17.50 USD (that's 50% the usual off! :D) you can pre-order a hardcover copy of the book from the Borders website.

I'll repeat: July 12th, 2011.

Now discuss the awesomeness of the series and how excited you are to find out what happens next. Don't forget your

I'll just say I've never been "a fan" of anyone. I've never had a favorite actor, singer, writer or sports star. I've never collected any memorabilia or looked up articles about anyone.

Good old times.

I've been checking GRRM's blog almost daily since I finished AFFC some two years ago, hoping for next book.
And "winter-is-coming.net" since the HBO show was announced.
Basically, I've become most pathetic fanboy ever.

I guess that is my punishment for once thinking I am above such things.

EDIT: Not to mention, I've also bought two copies of the books published in series so far - one for myself and one as a present for my father. And books around here are not exactly cheap. The first two were split into two hardcover volumes, each ~€20. :crazyeye:

I'll believe it's real once I have a copy in my hands. Until then, George, your hollow promises shan't deceive me.

Haha I understand what you mean, but I have feeling this is the one! An announcement is one thing, but putting it up for pre-order seems to substantiate that this is the real deal. :)

Maybe Ill take this as a sign to finally start reading this series.

Yeah, same, kinda been meaning to get into it but it's on the back of a list after a bunch of other books and probably don't have the time. Still this could be exciting this summer. And there's that whole possible TV show floating around.

I read the first few. But after more did not appear for year after year, lost interest. In retrospect, I don't think I would try it again even if more books came out on a regular schedule.

Can't wait, and the HBO series trailers look great! :)

Great, just when I'm planning to write my bachelor's thesis.

And now I have to read the first four books again because it's been years and I've forgotten too much.

You make it sound like that's a bad thing. :D

I've already read them all twice, but will definitely be going through for a third round before July. :mischief:

I've already started to wonder whether I'll ever see this published.

Best news of the week! :)

Wanted to start my third Gentleman Bastard reread soon, but know I'll better grab my fourth (or fifth?) round of AGOT now.

Thought the day would never come.

Release date is about six weeks before we're expecting our next baby, so I should even be able to give it a prompt and proper read! Unlike back in 2008 when I took Erikson's Toll the Hounds to the hospital expecting some downtime... was still only about half-done with that book when I returned to work five weeks later.

Preview of the final manuscript if you're interested. :)

Included is a glimpse of what the finished manuscript looks like (so many pages ) as well as the reading of a few snippets by GRRM's editor.

A Dance with Dragons was originally the title of the second novel in the sequence

Yeah, Martin's original plan was a trilogy but then he got into too much detail with the political shenanigans in Westeros it took him three books just for the stuff he planned for book one.
A Feast for Crows was supposed to me summarised in a planned five-year timeskip.
