The area the Irish weather service generally forecasts.

Irish weather typically includes Icelandic and Greenlandic weather too?

Our weather is dominated by Atlantic winds generally coming from the south west.

Storms that form on the other side can sit there for days but then cross the Atlantic very quickly if they pick up the jet stream? so they look far out. There was unseasonably stormy weather last Friday and Saturday from a storm that never came near us - it just covered a big area.

Weather from other directions is either very unusual or well covered by someone else.

Edit: Are you talking about weather reports on TV and the like? No most reports are local.
The weather service does forecast that area and occasionally if a storm is forming they will include some Atlantic charts in the report.

that's a really terrible map. I spy a location "underwater" in this new map that is over 5,000 feet elevation.

An awful lot of coastline will disappear if sea levels rise by any significant amount. Of course, many capital cities are built on coastlines.

oh-kay , one can read a lot of submarines constructed hundreds of miles away from the coasts and barged on the Mississipi , but ı can't imagine what kind of ships can be built in Nevada and stuff ? Maybe it is the desert airbases they want ?

Got printed here. I kinda struggle to visualize how big France is.

NZ over Europe.

My province is bigger than Belgium.
It looks a lot more impressive in its natural, elongated shape, but it seems like, by landmass area, it's almost as big as Germany.

EDIT: Quick googling says it's actually significantly smaller than Germany! 357,022 km^2 vs 268,021 km^2. It really does look bigger on the map.

Approx 25% smaller than Germany, 10% smaller than Italy.

Maps distort things. Indonesia is bigger than it looks in map, Russia is smaller.

Yeah, but I'd have thought this sort of projection tool would more or less correct for the inherent distortion as you move the country across the globe.

No idea. Wouldn't surprise me if it's not that accurate.

Tourist often get surprised by the size. I don't really think of it in terms of size more like say 7-8 hour drive to get from where I live to top of South Island. Wellington to Auckland is something similar excluding ferry travel time.

Top to bottom long drive basically. By plane it's almost closer to go to Australia.

Intellectually I know say Russia is something like 70 times bigger but I can't really imagine that in terms of traveling it.

It's also a bit rugged where I live. Big ass hill wherever you go. As a kid want to see the mountains look out the window. From the coast.

I didn't know that the eastern part of New Guinea was in Oceania.

Also, how does it make sense to have the lower caucasus in Asia? Is it because I is russian? :)
Iirc even a part of Kazakhstan is in Europe.

Papua New Guinea was an Australian colony so it gets lumped in with them.
