There are a couple monasteries which are other orthodox (iirc Serbian and Russian). I would guess that going there illegally only results in slow death by ultimately fatal disease, and not instant death :D

Please answer these questions:

You see a guy from Edinburgh, would you call him English?
You see a guy from Cardiff, would you call him English?
You see a guy from London, would you either Scottish or Welsh?

Thank you in advance for your answer.

If I saw a guy from Edinburgh, I'd say he's British. If I met a dude from Cardiff, I'd call him British. If I came in contact with an individual in London, I'd assume he was African. Ok, just kidding, I'd also think he's British.

Crazy Catalans, why do you want independence from Spain when they treat you so well?

Because 35% is not a significant percentage of anything.

It is always, because when we talk of a 35% we are always confronting it to a 65%, so if it is significant in a single case it is always significant.

Well compared to 65% it's not very significant.
Because 35% of Catalans are pointedly separatist does not imply that 65% are pointedly anti-separatist. If it's anything like Scotland, there's a large middle ground of people who could be roughly characterised as "pragmatic".

(Anyway, 35% is more than half of 65%, so even on those terms it's not exactly like one is dwarfing the other. The land-area of Ireland may be insignificant compared to the Indian Subcontinent, but hardly so compared to Great Britain.)

1st: I was talking about national identity and self-identification, not independentism. The ones talking about independentism here it's you people.

2nd: I made a comment on Catalans not being allowed into Mt. Athos. It doesn't matter what's your political stance: If you're Catalan, you're not welcome there.

3rd:
This thread is about maps. I made that comment on Mt. Athos because it was related to a map. Your discussion on Catalan indepenentism does not relate to any map posted thus far.

PS: It's funny to see that unionists don't seem to agree on how many independentists are out there. Sometimes we're 7%, sometimes 14% and sometimes 35%. Looks like the total amount of independentists depends more on how they feel than any objective study.

Similarities could be drawn to the amount of homosexuals in the world. Numbers are merely politics at that level.

Stop arguing about things unrelated!

PS Me continuing the argument.

Another map:

The darker the shade, the bigger percentage Golden Dawn got.

Seems like they are based on Corinth and Megara (iirc their leader is from there).

So, in that map of Mt Athos, what do all the Ms stand for? I imagine that "Akr." indicates a cliff or high point and I assume that kolpos means 'bay', as in 'Bay of the Holy Mountain', so my best guess for the Ms would be the Greek word for monastery.

I thought so. I worked out all the hard stuff too! :)

This picture makes me wonder where is it usual to see Greek written in Latin alphabet. I know that it's something usual on SMS messages, the Internet and the like but I've no idea if there're other contexts where such a thing is usual.

I plan to visit some of the monasteries in the future. There are many tales circulating about certain monks who greet visitors by mentioning specific information of those visitor's lives. While i am sceptical, it is a nice touch in the myth of the place.

Plus, most monasteries look amazing and date from the 10th century.

This was a pic designed for foreigners to see, this is why it is in latin alphabet. ;)

Maybe they should translate the Greek as well then. :)

As I recall, even the Queen was barred from setting foot on Mt Athos years ago, so she had to wait in a boat whilst Prince Philip went aboard.

Be careful, massive image ahead. I drew it last year exclusively in school classes. While bored, of course. But the point is that it is kind of an idealised Iberia. You can see the Tajo's estuary, the Ebro's Delta, and more. Of course I added some imaginary elements that wouldn't be there other wise, but. I needed to show off. :smug:
