The county in Texas in which I live seems to be one of the outliers that is happier than its neighbors.

Clearly they didn't ask the average library patron.

In our Black Sea resorts, instead of kicking the tourists that are misbehaving, we just shoot 'em.

Seems to correlate fairly well with emptiness (excepting the other obvious correlation with organised violent crime). Not sure what to take from that.

What's then up with northern Finland?
And what's there in Belgium (...don't think the EU counts as organized crime ^^)?

Finland I was going with emptiness, not really sure about Belgium though... interesting map. I mean part of it must be statistics - murders are pretty rare, so one murder in a town of 200 will show up much more than one murder in one of 100,000.

I think a map of relative corruption would be interesting to see.

Heh. Byzantine corruption is best corruption!
