Ank09 - DI1 Redux - 3CC AW

Pre-flight - Cities look good. I don’t touch them.

I bump science to 40% to get alphabet in 8 turns at -6gpt.

My only complaint is that we have the road between Beijing and Shanghai crossing the river twice.

The Ottomans are down to one city. I have one goal for these turns. Destroy the Ottomans. I don’t want to face Sipahi. We also need to find Russia and eliminate the possibility of facing Cossacks.

Russia has three cities.

IBT – Beijing: war=>war

1. 1475 BC – March on the last Ottoman city.

IBT – Two Ottoman warriors march out of their city.
Beijing: war=>worker
Canton: Warr=>temple

2. 1450 BC – The last Ottoman city is Edrine. March to the hill NW.
Here’s the situation:
ANK_09_-_Edrine.jpg

Yes, that’s a river between the city and our archers, so we’ll have an extra turn.

IBT – The Ottoman warriors move north. :smoke:
Beijing: worker=>warrior

3. 1425 BC – Move across the river.

IBT – The two warriors attack our archer on the hill, he is redlined, kills both and promotes.

4. 1400 BC - @ Edrine – Major Major is killed in the first attack, but Hawkeye and Yosarian carry the day and…
ANK_09_-_Edrine_destroyed.jpg

One down six to go. Time to find Russia. Start hooking up the iron.

Dub a new warrior radar and send him out in search of Russia.

IBT – Beijing: warrior=>warrior
The cave gets some new steps.

5. 1375 BC – Heal up our archer force. Once they’re healed we’ll march east in search of someone else to destroy.
6. 1350 BC – Science comes down 10%.

IBT – Iron is hooked up
Beijing: warrior=>sword

7. 1325 BC – Get 25G from a barb camp. Upgrade a warrior. We run out of dirt in the east. Our archer force starts heading north.

IBT – A Russian archer approaches Shanghai from the NW. Russia must be in that direction.
Shanghai: temple=>sword

8. 1300 BC – Yes, there’s a new Russia city to the NW. Dispatch our new swords and some archers in that direction. Science down another 10%.

IBT – Two Russians now in sight. A French warrior comes into view.
Alphabet=>writing

9. 1275 BC – Our budget is hurting. I go lone scientist on writing. Dispurse a barb camp before I meet Joan.
Intel from Joan: She has contact with the Mongols. She has furs hooked up and 35G. She has four cities, and is up four techs, pottery, writing, Myst and wheel.

First I buy Pottery for 28G. Then I buy wheel for 68G. I then try to demand Myst from her, but she is annoyed with us. You think you’re annoyed now. She slaps my face and I tear her leather tunic off. She runs off screaming. Yes, we’re now at war with the lovely Joan. :sad:

We have two sources of horses.

IBT – The French warrior attacks our elite archer and dies.

10. 1250 BC – Overrun a barb camp for 25G. (This maybe the only way we stay solvent) Kill a barb south of Shanghai and our dude is redlined. Kill a Russian archer with our sword.

After Action – There is a Russian warrior west of Shanghai, and a Russian archer in the fog to the north. I would send our eastern archer force north and see if we can’t surprise someone (after they’re mostly healthy).

Time for a sword rush into Russia. Russia has horses but not iron.

We need to consider some ways to keep the AI from expanding into the former Ottoman lands. I’m building a trans-Ottoman road. We will need some strategic roads towards Russia and France.

This is a real 'got it'

Stupid New England weather ruined my trip! :mad:

When I lived in Maine, a very popular saying was:

"If you don't like the weatha, don't worry, it will change again in five minutes."

Sadly, I know that saying all too well. :(

I have lived here for the vast majority of my life, I can attest to it's accuracy. For instance: I took that trash out at work today. When I walked out of the building, there were only a couple raindrops falling. By the time I got back from the dumpster, it was a downpour. 15 min later, the sun was out again. :rolleyes:

IHT – Everything looks hunky dory. :)

1225 bc (1) – Beijing sword -> sword. Pop a hut and get barbs. Disperse a barb camp.

1200 bc (2) – kill a Russian archer. Whack a couple of barbs.

1175 bc (3) – Our sword gets rl killing a Russian warrior.

1150 bc (4) – Disperse another camp. Orr runs into a French warrior.

IT – Orr beats off the warrior and promotes. Milo promotes after dispatching two barbs.

1125 bc (5) – kill a random barb or two.

1100 bc (6) – Send a stack of six swords up towards the Russkies.

1075 bc (7) – Radar sees that the Russians are not very big.

IT – Two Russian spears appear on a mtn, ready to pillage, it would seem.

1050 bc (8) – Move the swords back to deal with the local threat first. Radar needs even thicker glasses, he just ran into an archer.

IT – Radar goes to the big tent in the sky, flawlessly. He never was a fighter.

1025 bc (9) – Whack a couple barb camps, promoting a vet warrior in the process.

1000 bc (10) – Kill the two spears as they finally come down from the mountains.

Recap: You will need to heal a couple swords for a turn or two now, but then they can be sent to beat up on the Russians. Our archers in the east are healed and pushing northward. The workers are completing the last section of road for the Ottoman highway. We may want to consider building a colony on the spices, as we’re beginning to have happiness issues. There is a barb camp somewhere to the W/SW of Beijing. We currently have 67g and are losing 4gpt. Should we disband a few warriors? If it weren’t for the barbs, we’d be disbanding them by now.

That was nice and fast! :)

Ok.. I think we should hook up horses and start building them, we'll have a much longer use of them than swords, I think. They'll be a big help as they're faster and with those tactical roads can access any place double the speed than swords. We'll have a lot of empty areas here, you know. And they can be upgraded to Riders, and eventually cavalries, if we get that far.

Something we need to consider using => outposts. They can give us much better visibility.

Time to :hammer: on Cathy.

I already hooked up the horses, but we don't have HBR yet. So we can only build chariots.

Our treasury is really in bad shape. I was actually happy when I lost Radar because of the upkeep. I tried maximizing growth by chopping and irrigating the game near Beijing, and the wheat near Shanghai.

We should try and get the cities to size 12 ASAP to minimize unit upkeep costs and maximize commerce.

AW sure is much harder than just conquest, trading is the worst loss... Ah well.

Any ideas on how to manage from the AW pros, like Bugsy? :)

Got it.(10)

:bump:

Bede? 24h has passed since your "got it"... any update, or have you forgotten?

I doubt he's forgotten.

I can say that he's up in at least 4 games right now, so he may need just a bit more time.

Sorry, A. First on the list for tonight. Should have given myself the whole 24 to "get it." :)

Milo busts the barb camp and we collect another 25g.

7-825

Canton growth stalled till game forest chop finishes and the granary is closer to completion.

Beijing and Shanghai both at 7 now. Workers are roading to ivory north and furs west.

Sword teams with an archer east are poised to continue the invasion of Russia. Archers and leaders from Rheims are on the way home.

Then restart the whole shootin' match as I opened it in C3C

:rotfl:

I've done this both turns I played so far. :)

I imagine we'll use the leader for a sword army since Riders are a ways off?
So once he's back home, we'll have to hold a town for a moment so we can build the army, right?

Excellent work Brother Bede! We need to keep up the pressure on both France and Russia, hopefully eliminating either one or both. Keep your units healthy and send reinforcements as necessary.

Excellent is the word to describe this, that's right. :goodjob:

Sword army... yeah, propably, but we'll have to capture a city for a second while building it. Horsemen are a way off, so swordsmen are fine in an army. Just remember it won't be as effective as in C3C.. And we might need todisband the army eventually if we get riders and a leader... But, swords are the way to go. :ninja:
