1400AD [preturn]: Ok.. have a look around.

Greece and China are in the IA. Not good. That will propably mean rifles.. 12 turns until we have cavalry. More, propably, as we don't have the funds to have so much decifit..

The rest of the turns: Kill a settler - cav - trio. Lose two knights in the heat of the battle.

Also kill a Russian settler-longbow pair.

And lose one caravel when two frigates attacked on the Eastcoast.

I wasn't sure how to proceed, so I sent most of the troops to Susa... they propably should have been sent to the Eastcoast, except knights.

We're badly broke. No money, no techs. I had to already slow it quite a bit...

We can't wait for upgrading caravels to galleons. We need to make our move now, before the AI has infantries. If it gets those, we have no chance.

agree we shouldn't wait for galleons. we should land with a stack containing a decent amount of cannons and defenders to protect our future cavs. it will throw us back if we can't hold our ground on the continent.

i don't think we can afford to abandon one of our cities, we should choose a landing point without culture when one or 2 cities are destroyed to hold our ground there.

enough ships needed to land everything at once.
continue research after MT since our free tech could help us big time (nat or steam).
 
Progress report. I would have posted, but I left the floppy with the save at work.

Our first cav has rolled off the line and we're setting up for another cross channel invasion.
 
Pre-flight – Science is clicked down one notch for positive cash flow. Mil Trad due in 8. I have to say this is very do-able gents. We were in a much worse situation in DI1. We can do this.

Early – Produce a knight and two cannon. Two settler trios are dropped off on the east coast of our continent. Kill the Russian and collect two slaves. Kill one of the Greeks, we don’t have enough military in former England to get the second one. (3-0)

Middle – Produce two cannon, a knight and a musket. The Greeks found a city right next to our immortal. The defending cav is killed and the city autorazes. Two more settler parties are dropped off, this time on the west coast. We lose a knight killing the Chinese settler pair. We lose a second knight killing the three escorts on the second party. (8-2)

Late – Mil Tradition comes in. Banking at min for the moment. We need cash to upgrade our knights. We lose a redlined caravel to a Chinese frigate attack. Produce two cavs.
The Chinese complete Newton’s. Our caravels are attacked three times, we sink a Greek ironclad and two Chinese frigates.

After Action – Start upgrading knights and we should be ready for a cross channel invasion in another ten turns or so. I’d go for a landing on one of the mountains next to a city.

We should consider building a city over there as a base.

1500-1550

The pace of Chinese and Greek landings in the homelands is increasing, one full galleon load of cavalry every other turn or so, coming from the west.

Most new cavalry production has been expended fighting off the bad guys at home.

The caravels on the east coast were sunk by Greek ironclads despite their best efforts to escape.

There are four Greek cav outside Susa. Their protecting rifle has been killed. There are three cavalry on the way home from border patrol to relieve the town.

The caravel fleet had set sail for the east loaded with Muskets and cannon. The troops have been off-loaded in the northeast tundra due to prowling ironclads.

Getting across the strait between the east coast and Russia is not going to be easy. Attempting to sail west will just run right into the Chinese and Greek fleets of frigates and 'clads.

The knight reserve has been mostly expended on bogies in the homeland.

Kill ratio not good, about 3-1.
 
Ironclads... this won't be easy, if even doable. We'll propably be able to hold our lands until the AI gets infantry, but expanding will be hard. Very hard. Do people think this is even doable anymore? And if it is, how should we proceed?

haven't looked at the save yet, but from the reports i think we can't afford the long way to the E. maybe we need to wait for magnetism after all.

we'll certainly need lots of cannons to do this. i expect very slow progress or standstill until we get steam. rails will give us a small productivity boost, but we may have to research industrialization to get enough units. it will be cruicial what we get as free tech. if we get medicine, we're in trouble.

i'm not sure we can, but i refuse to give up already. during my turns homeland defense was doing ok, from andvruss report i'd that hasn't changed. we need to land a huge stack on the other continent, if we manage to get a foothold there, we can do it. biggest obstacle is the navy, but sending the two caravels over worked surprisingly well. infanteries is the other point, but i can't tell when we gonna face them (it's unlikely all three oppponents got rubber).
