Ank12 - A little Furball? - 3CC AW Redux

i declared on the babs, we don't know the indians yet.

we are at +2gpt with min science. with the two additional luxes we can build some more units, but until then pasargadea can replace lost units. with colossus we can build more. we also need construction to let pasargadea and susa grow, that would help with unit support too, but monarchy seemed more important to me.

sorry again for going against your advice, i usually follow them if given by more experienced players, especially on variant rules. but beeing unable to support more units, the wonders seemed to be the only reasonable thing to build (since improvements cost support too).

Ok... well, you had good reasons.

Monarchy was propably a good choice, as we'll get more gold, less corruption, more unit support and more out of the cities.

We should get a great leader. Why haven't we got any? That's the dark side of non-militaristic civs...

We need the units instead of the wonders. Use GLs for wonders.

Right now we've got more units than we can afford.....that's why I started those long term builds in the first place.

Preturn- MM Persepolis for 1 extra commerce and Susa for shields.

ANK12persiaadv.JPG

Great news!

I think our priorities should be:

1. Kill Babylonians
2. Blockade chock with several defenders.
3. Find other civs - to the northeast?

We may want to use the leader to grab the pyramids after the GL. That is a very powerful wonder that we could keep out of the hands of the AI.

Pyramids sure would fasten our growth a bit and saving us 3gpt for units... and if we're getting the GL anyway, Pyramids would be cool.

Is the South totally explored? I can't read too well from the minimap. If not, that would be really needed. If it is, seems that we'll be in the same situation as DI1: offshore civs.

And Northeast is important to be explored, too.

Got it, playing today.

550BC [Preturn]: We have the Colossus... Great Library in 2.. Susa hasn't built any shields up yet, so I switch it to the Pyramids and hurry it with the leader. Why wait 2 turns?

The situation is otherwise ok, but we need map making to get to know where the other civs are. So far we've been amazingly fast. Let's see how it goes forward.

IBT: Pasargadae immo > immo.
Susa Pyramids > library.

Lizzy cascades to the GLib but doesn't complete it, luckily it's so expensive.

530BC [1]: Kill a couple of English warriors and a Babylonian bowman... we're at the gates of their last stand. (3-0)

IBT: Persepolis GLib > library.

510BC [2]: Kill an English scout.

Kill two spears and a bowman in Ellipi and we raze it. The Babylonians are no more. (6-0)

Man, these immortals really slice those spears up.

3 of 5 enemies left. No, wait... 5 out of 7... or have we destroyed 3 or 4? At least 3... Cool.

IBT: Lose an immortal to an English archer.

We get Warrior Code, Map Making and HBR from the GLib.

490BC [3]: Switch Susa to galley.

We have a little problem with the choke... it's jungle. So our troops can die there if they're fortified. I guess we'll have to fortify them only when an enemy is coming closer...

IBT: Susa galley > galley.

470BC [4]: Immortals going for the choke..

IBT: Lose an immortal to the same archer. Duh. And it was on a hill... (6-2)

Persepolis & Pasargadae Immo > immo.

450BC [5]: Kill the archer with a spear (no immos close by anymore). (7-2)

430BC [6]: Cool, India has built a city on the choke so it has a clear spot now.

IBT: Susa galley > galley.

410BC [7]: Closing up on the Indian town which is defended by a warrior. :lol:

IBT: We get Maths and Philo.

Persepolis immo > immo.

390BC [8]: Spot an Indian galley...

IBT: Pasargadae Immo > immo.

370BC [9]: Slice the two warriors in Jaipur without any damage nor promotions. Razed. Also a galley was sunk.

IBT: Susa galley > galley.

350BC [10]: I think we should get rid of the Indians first... and both Lizzy and Gandhi seem weak, so I think we can leave the choke quite loosely guarded and just swipe them away.

Kill ratio was about 9-2. Nothing spectacular.

Hey, look what I just noticed:

And the save to next better player. :hatsoff:

Well done Ankka. Denying the Pyramids to someone is huge!! Looks like we'll need a galley or three, some strategic roads and time to bring some :hammer: on Lizzy and Gandhi. I have it.

I won't get this played until after the Army-Navy game though. Go Navy! Beat Army!

Pre-flight – 350 BC – MM Pasargadae for 10 spt. Persepolis needs one more shield for a two turn immortal. Science goes to zero.

The tech pace seems to have slowed nicely. More time for our immortals to be effective.

IBT – Persepolis: imm=>imm
1. 330 – Marching
2. 310 Kill an Indian warrior (1-0)
IBT – Pasargadae: imm=>imm
Susa: galley=>imm

3. 290 Kill an English archer (2-0)
IBT – Persepolis: imm=>imm

4. 270 – Kill an Indian archer
@ Kolhapur – Kill two spear, lose an elite* immortal, autoraze the city. (5-1)

IBT – Four Englishmen sally forth plus an Indian settler pair.

5. 250 – Kill the Indian spear and collect two more slaves. Retreat from the English stack to get more units to bear. (6-1)

IBT – Kill an Indian archer, the English step into the trap.
Pasargadae, Susa: imm=>imm

6. 230 – Kill two English swords and an archer, lose an immortal. Persepolis is now at 15 spt. (10-2)

IBT – Lose an immortal to an Indian archer
Persepolis: imm=>imm

7. 210 – Kill the Indian archer, plus an English archer. That puts us next to an English sword. (12-2)

IBT – Our immortal is killed by an English archer. We get CoL from the GL.

8. 190 – Lose an immortal to a sword.
@ Bangalore – kill the defending spear, autoraze the city and collect a slave. (13-3)

IBT – All three cities: imm=>imm

9. 170 Kill an English archer. Send out two suicide galleys. One makes contact with the Russians. Cathy doesn’t have any techs. I sell her our WM for her TM. She has seven cities. She also has contact with the Chinese and the Greeks. I hold off on purchasing contact and declare war. (14-3)

IBT – We lose an immortal to an English sword.
Both galleys survive.

10. 150 – Kill an Indian archer. Contact the Chinese. Mao doesn’t have any techs. Purchase his TM for WM & 6G. Properly declare war. (15-4)

After Action – End up 15-4. At present there isn’t much reason to build catapults since we can’t get them to the front. We may want to start soon though, as soon as a road is almost complete. We’ve made progress on the strategic road to India and England. It still has a way to go.

Greece is south of Russia. I’m buy their WM when you meet them. Here are some screenshots of the other continent:

Plus the front:
ANK12_-_150_BC_-_Front.jpg

India only has two productive cities left, Bombay and Delhi. It appears he has whipped them like crazy. I would use the three immortals NW of Bombay to campaign against the Indians. There is a force of immortals approaching from the north. I’d use them to go against the English.

Hubba, hubba. This is no longer just a furball! What with Chinese and Russians on the other continent.

Got it.

Kill Indians and Englishmen.

We should build only galleys from Susa, we'll need a fleet to get our troops over...

We should propably attack Russia when we've got rid of Indian and England, use the troops left from that to attack Russia... and pump new units into galleys near Persepolis and ship them to China.

Even though this looks like a continents map, might be easy as the AI tech pace is almost as slow as we are alone... I hope.

Good luck Bede.

Thanks for the good wishes Ankka, now where do I go for a patience transfusion? There is lot of jungle without roads between my Immortals and India.

Nice job getting our economy back into some sort of shape.

Not much action to to report. Moved a lot of immortals into position. Lost a spear and one immo. Killed six bogies of various ethnicity.

Russians found Tbilisi south of the choke after English sword killed blocking spear.

In 30BC kill Russian warrior and raze Tblisi then kill the offending Englishman. Indians found Bangalore on the west coast.

We learn Construction. Fortifed immos at the Tbilsi choke successfully defend against an English sword/archer pair.

In 10AD lose an elite immo killing the two spears at Bombay, burn the city.

In 30AD sink a galley loaded with Immmortals through mishandling...

By 50AD have a nice stack of Immortals heading into England towards Newcastle and two galleys on the east coast lacking only one Immortal for a full load.

One of the workers is planted on the horses east of Susa....we need some fast attack once we break through to the plains at Newcastle.

The short road to Perdition (Russia):

Ank12_130BC_TroopRoute.jpg

Good plan for the logistics of the other continent. Question: Should we concentrate on England/India or start pealing units off for a voyage? I'm thinking the former.

The Russians have already shipped a settler pair, so I think having some force over there might slow that down a little. We are still a couple boatloads short and the meantime the forces over there can deal with any tundra traipsers (there is already at least one English galley on the north coast.

Bulk of the forces should still go to England/India.....

Also we are heading back into deficit territory, so maybe a market in Persepolis would help.

Good job, Bede.

I agree, we need some horses to crush swiftly any landings...

And markets in every city when possible would propably do good.
