Ank12 - A little Furball? - 3CC AW Redux

Nice work. We need to think about how we're going to invade. Island hopping in the south? Direct shot across the eastern sea.?

Bugs: we'll have astro soon, so we'll get caravels > no sea problems. That will allow us to striks from any direction.

Good think we got chivvy before edu this time.. and education got us closer to astro.

island hopping already started, but we only have one galley.

i prepared 3 galleys for the direct route to russia, but now i think we should wait until astro to upgrade them. we need the additional defense, transport capacity and movement also helps.

760: I guess I will spread out slaves and fortify them.

IBT: Parasgarade knight-knight
Susa galley-temple

770: All bombards on Oxford miss again
Vet knight kills reg pike, -2hp
Vet knight kills reg pike, loses -2 hp, promotes to elite, and we raze Oxford
The English are no more.
Bomb passing galley

IBT: Persepois knight-knight

780: Vet imm flawlessly kills rider, promotes to elite
Barely kill reg spear in Macao with imm
Barely kill reg spear with imm
2 knghts retreat from sword

IBT: Susa pike-galley

790: elite imm kills pike, -1hp and we get a leader!
Lose knight to sword at Macao. I only see a 3 hp galley defending the town, so I dont know who is.

IBT: Chinese start Leos

800: Weird...with 5 units at there doorstep, the Chinese take out the galley and sword...either leave or disband

IBT: Persepolis knight-knight
Parasgarade knight-pike
Susa galley-galley

810: Heal units on island

820: Fortify more workers to clear fog, and thus no barbs
Astronomy in 3

IBT: Parasgarade pike-knight
Susa galley-knight

830: Kill 1 hp Chinese galley. All galleys (4) south are wounded by our cats :D.

IBT: Persepolis knight-knight

840: Kill chinese galley with galley, -2hp, promotes to elite

IBT: We learn Astronomy-Invention
Greeks, Chinese start Cops

850: Vet galley kills 1 hp galley
9-1

0 sci for now. Leader heading back to either wait for Leos in around maybe 10-12 turns, or Cops.
Galleys heading back to port to upgrade.
Many workers are fortified to help stop barbarian uprisings.
We have a sizable stack of knights ready to board and cross to Russia. Save

I think the key here is the early almost invincible UU.

Waiting for Sipahi for that kind of killing power (relative to the oppo) is just waiting too long.

Makes me think the Celts game would have played differently as AW.

"I do have it." --- andvruss

Good job there. IMHO cop's would be good for our research. rush it. No point in waiting for so long with that leader as we'll get more anyway... and we don't at least currently have really anything we need to upgrade.

850AD [preturn]: Have a look around. Looks good. Just wonder why we have several colonies of some sorts... like furs or iron.

I don't understand why we are going to attack Russia first when China is closer. Veto that and move the knights towards home again.

860AD [1]: Sink an American redlined galley. (1-0)

IBT: Persepolis and Pasargadae knight > knight.

870AD [2]: Sink a Russian galley. Upgrade some of ours. (2-0)

IBT: Susa knight > Cop's.

880AD [3]: Hurry cop's in Susa. load up the caravels. We have 4 full ones and one galley with one knight in it which was wounded will be upgraded next turn. We'll have at least one more knight to load by the time that is done.

IBT: Susa Copernicus observatory > caravel. We could use some more in the far Southeast.

890AD [4]: Kill a Chinese settler pair. (3-0)

Land a pillaging group in Southern Greece, where is a Russian city.

IBT: The Chinese land a rider-settler pair on the small island... where we have like 4 knights and some immos and catapaults and 2 tiles open.

Persepolis knight > knight.

900AD [5]: The Chinese settler pair had no hope. (4-0)

IBT: Isn't it nice when people provide us with free slaves? Like Russia just did. And they even offered swordsmen to keep our immortals in shape.

Pasargadae knight > knight.

910AD [6]: Pillage the Russian iron mountain near Sevastopol. Load two knights into the galley. Slice up the Russian settler pair. (5-0)

920AD [7]: Kill two spears in Sevastopol, redline one of our two knights, but we win and raze the place netting us 2 slaves.

930AD [8]: Riders might be a tough bite for our knights. I think we should pillage China's iron ASAP when we land..

IBT: We lose a fortified veteran knight on a mountain to a chinese vet rider.

Caravels sink in ocean? I thought they didn't... We lose 2 of the 4 we had going to China. (7-9)

940AD [9]: Apparently we lost 3 of the galleys. Sorry. Was my mistake.

IBT: China seems to be planing a landing as they have galley in the Gulf of Susa.

Lose 2 unprotected slaves to China. :smoke:

Pasargadae knight > knight.

950AD [10]: Land 3 knights in China in order to pillage their horses.

Kill 2 Greek units.

The kill ratio was really bad because I lost the 3 caravels. 9-14

That was China. This is Greece.

I hope Bugsy will do better than I did.

cop will help reasearch to nav, but i'm not sure this game will take long enough.
the lost caravels will just delay the inevitable...

i made the colonies because you can't build outposts. but a slave sees more then a colony so they're pretty much useless.

The attachment was linked from my user CP > attachments. But it seems to be non-existant... I managed to mess up while posting that turnlog and delete the post... but the attachment was weird. Well, I uploaded it.

And I was thinking why we didn't attack China straight as caravels don't sink... or so I thought.

I'm going to need a slight extension since I need to go shopping for Mrs. Bugsy's Christmas. I should have it up in the next 18 hours.

Pre-flight – 950 AD – We have our forces disbursed. A portion of that is necessary given the variant and the size of the continent. We have three knights on the Chinese mainland that are not in a position to attack anything. In fact we don’t have anyone in a position to attack anything. We need to decide on a campaign strategy. We have some caravels heading east and some heading west. We have units in Greece and units in China. We must be going for the Chinese horses.

Early – We lose two knights to riders. Produce a knight. A Chinese warrior and sword are dropped off in the backyard. Kill the two invaders. We then lose a knight to a Greek LB and another knight to a Chinese rider. Pillage the Chinese horses. That was probably a waste of all those units. Our two knights in China are slaughtered. (2-6)

Middle - Invention=>gunpowder. I start at min. Figure we’ll get some cash and get for it.
Produce a caravel. Lose a caravel. (2-7)

With no forces on the other continent, I decide to think through a proper campaign. After a bit of study, I think Bede’s original invasion plan across to Russia is the best. Trying to sail across the western ocean will cost us vessels and we can’t afford that. The resupply line is longer but safer. Additionally, Russia has the weaker power curve. Most of the rest of my turns will be spent getting units into position.

Produce three knights and a caravel. The southern tip of Greece will be resettled.aravel.

Late - Crank science up to get gunpowdwer in 10 @ -19gpt. Russians drop off a sword and a warrior. Kill the two Russians. Produce a knight. (4-7)

After Action we must concentrate our forces. I have set us up to invade Russia in another three turns or so. By that time you’ll have six vessels to resupply the beachhead. Leave some knights at home. The off-shore waters are crawling with invaders.

So strike for the heart of Mother Russia?

Got it.

Sounds like a plan there. Better than what I tried.

Let's get back into conquesting those enemies. :hammer:

And I wonder how this land could be seen as a pangaea... :hmm:

The Persian navy is useless and the Chinese and Greeks are pressuring our corner. Out cats do just fine on defense but can't hit the the broadside of a Russian on offense....

China built Macao in the NW corner near Persepolis and there is a set of Immortals heading that way to finish it off. Lost two knights to two Riders 1-2

The Greeks made a couple of landings with 6 troops (knights and swords) and killed 'em all losing two. 7-4

Lost three caravels in the bay trying to stop Greek and Chinese landings.
7-7

Made a landing at the Russian capitol, lost a single knight taking it down, killing four pikes and a spear. 12-7

Moved the knights, cats and some immos down the coast. Cut the Russian iron.

There is a stack of cats, immos and knights heading south along the coast to the next Russian city.

Learned Gunpowder at the cost of a cat, then turned research off. Colonized a bunch of saltpeter in the homeland.

Killed a Russian knight and settler pair and a Russian pike and settler pair and a Greek longbow and three Greek knights with the Russian expedition. 18-7

Wasn't able to move much reinforcement to Russia die to Greek and Chinese incursions.
