Apolyton is not a "partial pay site." All site features and all content is freely offered to all. The so-called "pay" features of the site are just expanded file sizes, avatar size, and PM box size. Oh, and an ad-free view. Those choosing to pay are really just supporting the site, presumably because they enjoy being part of that community.

When Poly Plus was first added (offered), it was because bandwidth isn't free, and banner ads weren't paying the bills. There was an uproar among certain posters. A few even left in anger, even though nothing previously available was taken away.

I'm seeing that same sort of overreaction here.

Sorry about that. My laptop broke at the most inopportune time, and I spent the whole day restoring Windows, backup data, and reinstalling programs.

This had got to be an April Fools joke. Seriously there's too much difference between Apolyton and Civfanatics. Merging us and them would be like merging the Republican and Democratic parties.

i say no to merging for other reasons

and no i am not a fan of PAY per view sites

i am not a member of any site that i need to pay a membership fee

I did too and in fact started one, but I'm working up to one for my 10,000th post so I'm conserving my energy that has been sorely drained by the forum today . And if I can count, this is my last post until I decide where to post #10,000.

I may have to hold off all further posting until you come clean on this merger business.

I think that if there is overreacting, it is caused by your over-reporting:

Among the highlights: ... moulding that site's PLUS subscription service into a pay-for model for key operations including "Game of the Month", "Hall of Fame", and "Junction University".

If GOTM and HOF are to become pay services, as you state, then I don't think the folks objecting to that are overreacting. If they are not becoming pay services, then why did you state otherwise?
