Slight differences, however. The Americans call them "zucchini" whether they're talking about one, two, or a million. In Italy, if they are talking about one courgette, they say "zucchina", which makes this the plural of the word "zucchini".

I hope that's simple enough for you to understand.

Of course I understand. I meant no criticism of Italy or you.
I just think the Brits have adopted the French word. And the
Americans have adopted the Italian word. Is that right?
Either will do for me.:)

When I said about it being simple enough for you to understand, I was not referring to any lack of brain cells on your behalf, but to the awkwardness of explaining my point.

And yes, you're right. :)

why are jews so anti-palestine?

Because we are pro-Israel.

Because they try to kill us, and say we have no right to the land. We have never tried to destroy the Dome of the Rock, or say they can't be there. They just say we can't.

We offered Arafat 98% of what he wanted. We offered him THE ENTIRE OLD CITY OF JERUSALEM, INCLUDING THE WESTERN WALL WE WANTED PEACE SO MUCH He said no. They want ALL of Israel, and us to leave.

Before Israel was given to us, Palestine was a desolate land that thousands of jews came to, bought land, worked the land, and made it a land of life, with trees and plants, even in the desert, and got rid of the swamps. We paid for this land, and they still claim it doesn't belong to us.

We gave back the Sinai peninsula in exchange for peace with Egypt. By law it was ours, but we wanted peace. they STILL want to wipe us out.

does that exactly breed amity and friendship?

I will say this. I support giving back 100% of lands we conquered after 1948 IF AND ONLY IF it would bring peace. However, I know it won't, so I oppose it.

Each side believes different versions of the same history.

True enough.

Each side views the conflict as wholly the fault of the other and expects an apology. So the same question could be reversed.

We both do see it as the other's fault, however I don't think we expect an apology, just a "you can live here too, we'll put down our guns/bombs" would be enough.

From there I think we can blame a history of religious conquest and conflict in the area. In the 20th century, I would point to WW I with the Syke-Picot Agreement, McMahon-Hussein Correspondence and Balfour Declaration. Meddling by Europe with the fall of the Ottoman Empire...

Also there would be Herzl/World Zionist Organization, the rejection of the Uganda plan, and quite a few other factors, including the Arabs rebelling against the Ottomans as well factoring in there, but those are all sound points.

I think arabs hate jews because they are racist. For example the word Israel means a jew state. The state of Israel is minded only for ashkenazi jews. All the rest is treated like beasts. Why don't call it simply palestine? Why Israel?

It's clear arab don't want to live in a state who don't recognize them like active part so they try to change the general attitude of jews. For example why is the elite of israel composed only by jews? Why don't have palestinians a own party who can win the election?

This is going to be fun :D Before I start, just wondering, where has your viewpoint come from?

I think arabs hate jews because they are racist.

So arabs hate jews because we are racist? We have never told our children to go forth and smite the arab, they are evil beasts who eat jewish children for their holy meal.

Palestinians have been indoctrinated into believing that we are monsters, and that any true Muslim must kill themselves and us.

Israeli children HAVE been brought up to fear muslims somewhat, but for the same reason they are brought up to fear public transportation, and that Americans can fear muslims too. They don't wish to be killed, and though not all Muslims do, some do, and when you are a potential target, it is rather frightening. please, prove me wrong and show me all the ways Jews have been racist against arabs.

For example the word Israel means a jew state.

No it really doesnt. I would assume you don't know hebrew, so I can forgive this. However, I think you should be enlightened. El means god (short for Elohim). I before a verb means in biblical hebrew that a man did something. Sarar means to rule. Israel means 'God rules' (not in the god is awesome way, but in the ruler way). Furthermore, how is this an example of racism?

The state of Israel is minded only for ashkenazi jews. All the rest is treated like beasts.

Just putting this out there, I'm guessing you are not an english speaker as your first language. What is it? (just wondering, not trying to offend.)

The state of Israel was created to be a homeland for Jews, yes, as the world had just seen what happens when we have no home. Remember the S.S. St. Louis, the quote "none is too many", and the fate of those denied immigration: death. We needed a home that we would have access to, always, so we could ensure safety regardless. Israel was that home. That is the reason for the law of return, and all Jews being granted citizenship if they need it. Also, Mizrahi and Sephardi Jews live in Israel, and they are not treated like beasts, nor are Arabs. Care to elaborate with some concrete evidence on how this occurs?

Why don't call it simply palestine? Why Israel?

Because it is our nation, and Palestine was not the original name either. We have every right to name it what we want, we are a sovereign nation. It was named Israel as that has a spiritual and historical meaning for us. We have every right to call it Judea, which the land was for years, even under the romans, but we didn't. Would you like THAT better?

It's clear arab don't want to live in a state who don't recognize them like active part so they try to change the general attitude of jews.

Arabs have full citizenships, and some serve in the Tzahal, though it is not required of them. They are fully able to live in Israel. Also, suicide bombings will change our attitudes NEGATIVELY, not positively.

For example why is the elite of israel composed only by jews?

The elite of Israel is not composed only of jews. You have been reading Protocols of the Elders of Zion again, havent you? The Jews are the elites of the world. We own hollywood. We have the president of the united states in our back pocket. we have a conspiracy against you, clearly.

Why don't have palestinians a own party who can win the election?

Because they HAVENT won the election. They have a party. Does every party need to win an election? The green party has never won an election in Canada. Oh my god, that means Canada oppresses environmentalists! HELP HELP, IM BEING REPRESSED!

bloody peasant.

so, care to elaborate on your arguments? I have yet to see any concrete proof anywhere, and have seen opinions and facts that are completely wrong, nothing but.

These look like a cucumber (concombre in french, melaffeffon in hebrew).

They look too skinny for a cucumber so it looks like a zucchini to me.

Zuccinis have a nubbly-bit at one end, they don't look like that. Those are the longer variety of cucumber we used to sell in Coles supermarkets when I worked there.

I think I have seen them marketed as "English cucumbers."

Generally they are irrelivant. Some love em, some hate em. Most people would see them lose their constitutional position (after Liz) if their was a better soloution, but distrust the politicos more.

Thank you for answering my question. :) What consitutional position do the Royal Family have?

I know nothing about the Royals in British government and society.

A cucumber is a very different thing from a courgette.

Now just about no constitutional role apart from the oversight of the gov. The mil swears allegance to the crown, and the crown would dissolve parlament and call elections if the gov no longer govened with the concent of the govened. This would cause a(n unwritten) constitutional crisis, but avoid a civil war. There was some talk that under Thatcher the Queen would refuse to read the Queens speach - the anouncement of the years proposed bills, but no-one really believed it and it came to nothing.

Essentially a seperation of powers, where all the Queen can do is disolve parlament and demand elections.

In 14 other countries the Queen has a Governor-General as her representative, who functions in much the same way as the queen, dissolving parliaments, calling elections, giving military commissions and swearing parliamentarians in, etcetera.

In Australia, for example, the G-G dismissed a government in 1975. Very controversial. The constitutional arrangements are flawed and too much hinges on the G-G.

A question to Finns,

Is it true that whenever you step into a house, you have to take off your shoes?

Just wondering, cause i'm heading to finland in july, and want to know the costums.

It's normal in all the nordic countries. There is already an entire thread dedicated to customs with shoes I think.

I havent known that is some custom to go in another home with shoes:eek:
This thread is definately useful:) Well there have to be some superb door-mats:lol:

To people living in countries with a large land area: Have you ever travelled to the ends of your country?

Yes. With the exception of the northeast corner, I've travelled the coast from Darwin/Kakadu all the way down the west to Perth, across to Adelaide and Melbourne, up to Sydney and then as far north as Brisbane. Done Tasmania a couple of times, and travelled the interior through Coober Pedy/Alice Springs/Tennant Creek and the Simpson desert.

For what's worth, I picked up my Italian - (UK) English dictionary, and it read: "Zucchina/o: courgette; zucchini (USA)".

Zucchini is zucchini, but I was agreeing with Whomp that those didn't quite look like zucchini to me.

:)

question to the good citizens of France.
Why do you guys clinch on to Corsica?
Constitution of 1958:

La France est une République indivisible, laïque, démocratique et sociale.
