I have a question to the Europeans that have abolished monarchies

What are your views on the Monarchy?

Germans: Is there still a mental barrier between Eastern Germans and Western Germans?

Swedish: Will you please give me bed+board for a weekend so I can come an woo your beautiful women? (I can pay)

I'll try again...

United Kingdom: What is it like having a Royal Family? What role do they play in your society? And do they have the least bit of authority at all?

what independence movements are their in your countries? (yes, changing my theme did get me thinking about this)

Here we have Québec (MAJOR) and Western Canada (minor)
We have several, the most active one being the Basque (put they are more fighting against Spain than France), the Corsican, and the Bretons.

Our Cornish are the same people as your Bretons. Their fishermen sometimes visit the fishing town
I live in and drink and talk happily together. Same language of course. Same flag but reversed.
Cornish is white cross on black background. Breton is opposite. They always fly both flags
in solidarity when they enter our harbour. Did you know that, Steph?:)

There is no large support for it, we have "Czech crown (Monarchist party of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia)", which wants estalbish consitutional monarchy but has only about 0,1 votes. There it too long presidential tradition from 1918 and before it was Austria-Hungary which didnt support our self-determination. Last independent kingdom was during reign of George of Poděbrady, "hussite king" (1458–1471)
Personally I dont think that monarchy is real in the Czech republic. Monarchies are expenisve.

Question for our Latin American posters: Do you feel insulted when people lump your nations in with the African nations? If so why, what would you compare your countries to instead?

Question for our African posters: Do you feel insulted when Latin Americans insist that their countries aren't like Africa? It isn't all that bad where you live, right?

It's more or a stereotype rather than an insult. While there is a lot of poverty in Latin America, it can't be compared to what's going on in some African nations. We are also leaning more towards democracy than in the 1980's.
I think the region has been pretty stable in the last few years with a few exceptions (Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua). Being called Third World nations is a reality, but being treated sometimes as "untermenschen" because of that fact is insulting.

If you have street food in your country, how good is it? And do you have to worry about hygeine?
It's unusual to see any sort of vending cart here in the Midwest, except perhaps downtown Minneapolis during lunch hour. The fare is basically just hot dogs, potato chips, and soda.

As for the hygiene, I'm not too terribly concerned about it. I'm more conscious about whether I've washed my hands, not whether the guy handling the food has. Since the guy uses a pair of tongs for the hot dog, and the buns have a little paper napkin they come in, I don't think it's much of a concern.

Oh, the Bretons. I do like Trudeau's response to De Gaulle (I quoted it SLIGHTLY out of context in my sig, he actually asked how France would like it if a Canadian Prime Minister in Nantes or Brest or some Breton city were to say Brittany for the Bretons, but still, it was good.)

I'm not european, and I still HAVE a monarchy (in name, and excessive spending sprees in Scandinavia only), but I see no reason to keep it, but even less reason to get rid of it.

What are these called in the US?

Forced integration doesn't sound very civilized.

Gypsies life style is worse too

what independence movements are their in your countries? (yes, changing my theme did get me thinking about this)

We have sicilian independence movement but the real treat for Italy is Lega nord or Padania independece movement

Much more interesting here is the unionist movement (with Moldova), but that's probably far enough from happening, too many economic concerns, too many minorities there and too hard with Transnistria right there.

Is Transinistria russian?

What are your views on the Monarchy?

Monarchy is only a hereditary dictatorship. Europeans in general prefere democracy

What are these called in the US?

Beans?

I would have it back any day. The Republic has been incompetent in pretty much every aspect until the current president, who is still very limited compared to what could have been done if we had a king. In fact, in 1990, after the revolution, in the University Square there were tens of thousands of students asking for the monarchy back (the slogan "Monarhia Salveaza Romania" - Monarchy Saves Romania" can still be read on some buildings there) but their protests were "rebuffed" by... guess who? The influential members of the old Communist party, which were still in power for 10 years after the revolution.
