Another person with really poor vision. Aimee, there's no shame in not driving if it turns out you can't. I'm more than twice your age, and have never gone further than the written learner's test. The thing is, I'm sensitive to light, have trouble judging distances outside, and when I get into a moving vehicle, I just want to nod off for a nap. I'd probably kill myself or somebody else if I ever got behind the wheel of a car, so I never dared.

I've never considered laser surgery because I've read that it wrecks one's night vision. I love stargazing too much to risk that!

I think the problems with laser surgery are mostly from overhype and early trials. I think it's been slightly more refined since then. However I don't have much experience in the matter.

As anyone with experience of Asperger's will tell you, it also comes as no surprise that I have poor vision. I'm not that short-sighted, but my detail vision is atrocious - I can't read a computer screen six feet away and even a lit destination panel on a bus can be difficult to make out. I'm theoretically legal to drive, but I've never felt comfortable with trying to peer at number plates if I was to start driving.

OK... so, this has always interested me.

When having sex with someone, emotional sex... eye contact. If you don't have your visual aids, it's all blurry... so, how does this effect the eye to eye intensity?

I heard from an optician that many people get contact lenses especially for such occasions, so that they can see what they're doing.

Talking about poor vision: blind people do it. (As do I and I´m about as blind as aimee w/o my glasses. Never had any problems w/it.)

I don't think it was meant mean-spiritedly. If I didn't know any better I'd say Cata's just jealous but I don't think that's the case since he's better looking than Tom Petty.

I was thinking of starting a spam thread called "Ask somebody with poor hearing" and when anyone would ask me a question I'd say "What???". but A : it'd get closed anyway & B : the joke doesn't really work cause this is a forum (though I think the silliness of that fact would make it even funnier).

I don't really have any questions.

As a glasses wearer I'd love to have perfect vision though sometimes I enjoy my watercolor eyes.

Well, Nova Scotia at-least, they cover the cost of basic frames & lenses. But no extras. So no extra coatings or contacts or anything except out-of-pocket. Im also limited in the type of frames I can get (basically, metal-wire ones -- though, to be honest, I never really liked the other kinds. Also why the hell do they have Disney glasses?).

Tom Petty is unique looking & not ugly IMO, I just think Cata is a fine specimen. I thought that music video you mention was very creative. Nobody seems to put in that type of effort nowadays.

I used to get mad at MTV for ruining songs I liked with bad videos. These days I don't watch the video for a song until I've heard it a few times & if I don't like the video I never watch it again (even on YouTube, I'll just open a new window).

It seems you've been dealt a really tough hand, with having poor vision, a strong speech impediment, asbergers syndrome, inability to stand for long periods of time, low IQ (I'm not saying you do but you've said this), extreme sensitivity to smells, that's all I can remember but maybe some others.
