Biggest misunderstanding about you?

I've read a few times here where people have had cause to comment on me, of my alleged love of cars. Whilst flattered that some of you even profess to have an opinion about what I do and don't like, it's not really accurate.

Sure I appreciate a nice car and I happen to sell them, but cars wouldn't feature in a list of my top 10 favourite things. I mean hell, i drive a 2005 Hyundai Sonata! You wanna talk cars then Forma is undoubtably your man. I've spent more on surfboards than cars over the years.

Just wondering if any of you feel that there is a persistent perception about you that doesn't really reflect reality?

Good grief. I've no idea what people on CFC think of me. It could be literally anything.

In RL, I don't know what I think about myself, never mind what other people think, nor whether it's accurate or not. I used to care a very great deal. But now, not so much.

For some reason people think I'm likeable for have any kind of talent, but none of that is true.

Off line, it seems like everyone thinks I know a lot about science and history, but I guess that's not really true any more as I'm don't have any further education. There's also the idea that I'm perfectly content with just using a computer all day. I think my dad still believes that I'm obsessed with Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

There's also the idea that I can't do anything for myself, but I guess that one is true.

That I'm kind and smart. I'm not. Meet me on a bad day; I'll be either the most depressed wreck you've ever seen or extremely nasty and abusive.
Nah, I've always thought that you were mopey and self-loathing for spurious reasons, and that those moods were infinitely more problematic than any other problems you actually manifest.

Couple of hot dogs short of a picnic.

I don't think there are any misunderstandings fundamentally about my character on these boards that I have a problem with. It gets annoying when people associate me with welshophile or anglophile-ness. But those assumptions are completely understandable given the username and given the fact that I was those things at one point in time. Other than that, I can't really think of any assumptions about my character that aren't totally justified (or so irrelevant as to not even really be worth mentioning).

To be honest, I have don't really know what people think of me on here besides the things I shove down their throats (lolFuturama).

Maybe my stance on Israel has lead more than a few to think I don't give a rats ass about Palestinians/Arabs/Muslims? :dunno:

I'm fine with that.

But it's off the topic. Notice the thread title the "biggest misunderstanding about you", Mr Dachs. i.e. yourself.

There's another thread for what you think about others.

People at work think I know a lot, especially about MS Office, but really I just know how to google things.

I mean, I do know a lot, and I know more than most people about MS Office, but people seem to form those opinions of me purely on the basis of how well I can use google. I don't have some mystical knowledge of how to do XYZ in Outlook; I mostly just google the question they just asked me verbatim and read off the answer that's in the first few links.

People probably think about me that I never contribute anything, and only post xkcd comics mildly related to the discussion at hand :mischief:

Edit: I should clarify that this is actually not a misunderstanding.

There are actually some things I am knowledgable about, they're just rarely discussed on these forums, which is why you are free to think I'm an unawaringly blabbering idiot.

That I'm kind and smart. I'm not. Meet me on a bad day; I'll be either the most depressed wreck you've ever seen or extremely nasty and abusive.

Dude, I know how it feels, and you can be rough towards people, but I refuse to dislike you. You brought hearts to DYOS and you don't deserve to feel that way.

At least you haven't been bad towards me yet. <3

That I'm a nice, tolerant, "acceptable" conservative. I'm really not. I get just as mean and y as my counterparts on the left, if not more so, and I don't have a lot of patience for some of the views they hold. Oh, I fervently believe in their right to hold those views and opinions, but I certainly don't have to respect them.

Yep, the days of winning friendliest person in my senior class are many decades behind me.

I'm pretty sure people think I'm rather rude. I don't mean to be rude, I'm just not at all good at social niceties.

Nearly the same here, in RL.
But for me it's more the case that I don't care :D.
Thought it was not a big deal, until a girl once shouted (with moderate volume) at me "why are you always so rude?" in a room full of people.

People at work think I know a lot, especially about MS Office, but really I just know how to google things.

That applies probably to everyone who knows how to google ^^.
But well, that's even the better skill, so who cares?

...else...here in the forum, the modders think I'm a good coder. I'm not, I produce shoddy stuff and need quite some time to polish it.

Random people in the street seem to think that I'm either gay or posh, simply by my (mixed) accent.

As for CFC, I have no idea what people think about me, but at least some of it is likely to be wrong. :)

I hope the biggest misunderstanding is that I am not, in fact, 2 boxes

I'm fine with that.

I actually have a serious answer for that, because identity and perception are something that I'm wrestling with right now. I'm not totally sure that the tone would fit the thread, though, and I'm extremely uncomfortable about admitting things like this to anybody in real life, let alone the internet.
