Narwhal Legion and Vault 2:

The peoples of the Narwhal Legion and Vault 2 launched a combined expedition to the pre-war training and army base at West Point. They were fortunate not to encounter any raiders or monsters on the way, most being scared off by the well-armed and massive force marching together. They reached West Point without incident, and immediately began salvaging everything they could from the base. They were fortunate to discover that the base had acted as a temporary refuge point for people fleeing the bombardment of New York City during the war, and had a considerable amount of food and water supplies on base as well as a large amount of weapons. Though no functional artillery or vehicles were discovered on site, a large amount of power armor was obtained, given entirely to the Narwhal Legion. Other training weapons, including plasma ones were obtained and shared among both sides. After finishing the salvage operation, some people from both factions established an outpost at Nyack, with people from both groups, though the Legion oversaw the construction of the base.

Faction Reports​

Acada Settlers

Faced with imminent danger from attack by a large band of raiders, the population of Acada evacuated to the outpost of Barton. However, they left behind a considerable trap for the raiders, who fell for it quickly. They charged into town, found a considerable amount of liquor and food, gorged themselves, while leaving the slaves outside. The soldiers of Acada then detonated considerable explosive charges throughout the town, demolishing much of their own old labors as well as killing or disorienting most of their enemies. The remnants were soon mopped up by the hardened warriors, and their slaves freed and invited to join the population of Acada. Most of these slaves were former residents of Vault 215, and are happy at last to find some peace.

Overseer's Challenge: We're running short on water due to the contamination of drinking water by the fighting in Acada. At the current rate, a small number of people are likely to die from a lack of hydration. How do we respond?

Appalachian Commonwealth

The year proved eventful for the newly reorganized Appalachian Commonwealth, as the first elections were held for the Commonwealth's combined Overseer. The former Vault 104 Overseer was elected as the overall overseer for the whole faction, continuing his control over the entirety of the Commonwealth. Contributing to his success was the reactivation of the Whitney Point purifier, dramatically increasing water production. Also, the discovery of a partially deactivated Mini-Fission reactor from Binghamton University has given the people the promise of new electrical production for the people of the Commonwealth. Scavenging proved to be moderately successful, particularly as a major operation was launched to clear out the ruins of Binghamton and Johnson City.

The fighting in Binghamton and Johnson City provide intense and difficult, and dozens died in the process. Fortunately, there have been discoveries of several smaller groups of people who have been invited to join the security of the Commonwealth. On the other hand, there remain large parts of the city, particularly the sewers which remain unsecured, and likely to be filled with ghouls and other monsters. Food and scrap supplies were salvaged from various locations, all to be returned to the master stockpiles in Vault 104.

Raider attacks picked up on the outskirts of the Commonwealth, apparently from displaced dens from Binghamton and Johnson City. The attacks were easily repulsed, though several were killed on the patrols within the city. It is unknown whether the increase in attacks is something to be considered from here on out, or if it was an isolated set of incidents.

Overseer's Challenge: A rash of thefts has taken place within the armory and stockpiles of Vault 104, people are angry, blaming in the thievery on recent immigrants and additions to the community. How do we respond?

Blood Red Mesa
The Blood Red Mesa vanished into history this year, as a shortage of water in its region proved too much for it to handle. The people of the Mesa soon mostly headed west, attempting to find new land to live in. Unfortunately, most perished in the desert and many more succumbed to the people and monsters of southern California. Some continued to eke out an existence in the Phoenix area for a limited time, but were eventually overrun by ghoul attacks. A very few eventually made it to other communities in the wasteland, and they became the only memory of this vanished people.

Brunswick Nation

Spoiler :

The Brunswick Nation had a year of mixed successes and disasters. A new settlement known as Manchester was established between Highland Park and Trump, acting as a stopping post for travelers and couriers between the two. The settlement was mostly successful, though some losses were sustained in the process of building it due to local monster activity. Scavenging in Atlantic City continued from Trump this year, as the locals and their robots salvaging the various materials around their settlement. The greatest success of all however, was the finishing of the Fission Reactor in Highland Park, providing renewable energy to the people of the settlement, as well as leaving some extra. This wealth did not come unnoticed however, as a very large raider attack was launched on the settlement. With few decent weapons of their own, the town suffered heavy casualties, though eventually they were able to push the raiders out.

Overseer's Challenge: Our new reactor seems to be leaking into our water supplies, causing them to become radioactive and unusable for annual exploitation. The effect could be reduced if we cut the energy production by half, according to our engineers. How should we respond?

Diefenbunker

Spoiler :

The Diefenbunker began its investigation of territory surrounding the bunker in earnest this year, testing the soil and using equipment to determine viability for wells and farming. The tests proved considerably successful, as much of the soil is only poor quality as opposed to completely unusable. The lakes in the area have been further tested as well, apparently good for purification distribution.

The Canadians in the Diefenbunker made further efforts in extending their control elsewhere, meeting mostly with failure but limited success too. A new outpost was set up at Sturgeon falls, and has successfully held off raider attacks. Unfortunately a similar expedition to Nickel Center was wiped out to a man, and no sign of them was ever recovered. The outpost at Markstay-Warren followed later in the year, believed to have been destroyed by a moderately sized raider party.

Scouting expeditions were sent out into the Canadian wastelands this year, as the Diefenbunker attempted to determine what lies out in the wastes. One expedition to the south was lost entirely and no sign of them was ever heard of again. An expedition has finally managed to return to Sudbury proper and come back to the bunker alive. Reports confirm that the old city is overrun by various gangs, many using guns and most of them cannibals.

Overseer's Challenge: A large tribe of people has come from the northeast, calling themselves the Bekwa. Their purpose in our territory is unknown, and we do not even know if they know of us. They do however have slaves in addition to women and children with their group. How do we respond?

Earth Reclamation Command

The Earth Reclamation Command struggled throughout the year with a shortage of food and water looming over it. Several people died throughout the year from a lack of water, mostly the sick or elderly, as the community had the minimal amount needed for everyone. Efforts were made to collect more water from the expansion of cisterns at Peterson and Cheyenne Mountain, but overall the effects have been minor at best. Other water was purified from sitting ponds throughout the area using a large amount of Rad-X scavenged from local hospitals, as they continue to fight to ward off death by starvation or dehydration.

In their search for new sources of water, expeditions were sent out around Colorado Springs to search for ideal locations for settlement and exploitation. Two obvious choices were discovered. In Mueller State Park to the west, numerous lakes, untouched by the war appeared obvious. The only cause for concern has been wild howling heard throughout the forests. The other, less ominous source though with tainted water, is Fountain Valley to the southeast, which while most of the water is radioactive, appears to be suitable for a farming settlement.

Overseer's Challenge: Once again, we are running short on water. To make matters worse, we have also begun running short on food as well. Once again, we are likely to lose a portion of our population to the shortages which plague us. How do we respond?

Fort Morgan Refuge

Spoiler :

The Fort Morgan Refuge launched new efforts at expansion and exploration this year, sending out large, heavily armed parties to scout out the surrounding region. This came at a time when the outlying communities have come under heavy attack by raiders. Both attacks were repulsed, but casualties were sustained, even by a few wearing the feared power armor. From the attacks, Bear Creek was nearly overrun, and a portion of its water gathering capacity was diminished. The Gulf Shores assault was even larger, but superior firepower won the day.

Numerous expeditions were sent out from the Refuge's territory, and the raiders responsible for the attacks were found and their hideout was wiped out. Further scouting expeditions continued, and the people at Fort Morgan began to get a better idea of what awaited them out in the wasteland. To the north, the various pre-war communities and suburbs between Pensacola and Mobile seemed wrecked, apparently due to misguided nuclear strikes. Spots throughout the region are highly radioactive, though scouts reported the region of Silverhill to be surprisingly untouched in the rubble, and possibly a good location for limited farming. Expeditions into the east entered the outskirts of Pensacola, and found two promising locations for salvage and exploration. The Tarkiln Preserve State Park seems to be ideal for a new water pumping station, as well as for limited related farming. At Forrest Sherman Field, a number of robots were seen patrolling the boundaries of the base, and it seems likely that a military arsenal exists within the airfield's buildings.

Overseer's Challenge: Word of our surplus of water has spread throughout the wastelands. A very large tribe of people have come from the north, headed towards Gulf Shores. Their intentions are unknown but it is confirmed that they are a slave-holding people. How do we respond?

Kritarchy of United Slavers

Spoiler :

The Kritarchy of United Slavers faced a difficult year, with numerous heavy losses and casualties. Though they helped relieve the loyalty concerns a bit by allowing more slaves to become members of the typically population, deaths were at an all-time high. Scavenging in Kenner has proven exceptionally difficult, as entire teams have been wiped out, and it's obvious of the cause. The city of New Orleans appears heavily infested by giant spiders, and their nearly invisible webs and speed has led to the deaths of many scavengers, though their weapons are frequently recovered. The spiders have struck into the settlement itself, frequently and stealthily, as people are dragged off into the night. To make matters worse one of the supply caravans between Kenner and Lafayette was wiped out by raiders, leaving no trace behind in the wilderness.

Overseer's Challenge: None of our efforts to contain the persistent threat of the spider attacks in New Orleans have had any success. How do we respond?

Liberty Commonwealth

Spoiler :

The Jeffersonian Libertarians officially reorganized themselves this year, sparking controversy and excitement over the new reforms. The Libertarians have become the Liberty Commonwealth, developing a new constitution to go along with the fancy new name. The new constitution forces all mayors to obey the laws of the majority vote, and this has caused heated rhetoric from Perchtown. Mayor Cachino and the people of Perchtown have refused to back the new constitution and have stubbornly called for its lack of validity. Due to the majority of others voting the new constitution in, however, the laws are in action. Mayor Cachino has stated that Perchtown will not follow the new laws should they be outside of the community's interests. Also stated was the fact that Perchtown will defend itself should laws be forced upon it by Watertown.

Two new settlements were established this year, Adams Center and Lowville, as Liberty settlers established their own outposts in each. Local goods were salvaged as they build up the surrounds, setting up stockpiles for their own development. Limited farming has begun as well, hoping to capitalize on the fairly untouched region's decent soil.

The Liberty Commonwealth's steamship continued its explorations around Lake Ontario, picking up supplies and making contact with those who survived in the settlement of Flour City. Though the population was greatly diminished from previous reports' figures, the settlement still exists, and has offered trade with the Commonwealth.

Overseer's Challenge: Mayor Cachino has privately threatened secession from the Commonwealth should Marques attempt any further strikes against his family's control over Perchtown. This includes withholding food and supplies from the other communities if the Cachinos are not granted immunity within Perchtown from all Commonwealth laws. How do we respond?

Narwhal Legion

Spoiler :

Besides the expedition with Vault 2 up to West Point, the Narwhal Legion had an eventful year. Narwhal City came under persistent attack by cazadors, on top of a particularly ferocious raider attack. With less than one hundred people in Narwhal City, while many were gone, the capitol of the Legion was very nearly overrun, as most of the better fighting types were away. The defensive Mr. Gutsy was overwhelmed in the attack, leaving the fight up to those who remained. Some of the local stockpiles were destroyed during the fighting. Fort Narwhal and Perth Amboy also came under attack by vicious raiders, though they were less damaged in the efforts. The Perth Amboy settlement was the worst hit of the two, losing a sizable part of the population when several of the raiders were discovered to be using makeshift grenades.

Immigration picked up this year to Narwhal City, despite the aforementioned setbacks. Numerous new citizens emerged from the ruins of New York City, including a substantial amount of people from Vault 2. Most were put to use in assisting a Mr. Handy in digging a moat around the city, while others joined scavenging groups or joined in defensive efforts. Some even died in the defense of their new homes.

Fort Narwhal, the largest of the Legion's settlements, greatly expanded its farming operations, without use of hydrophonics. People from Fort Narwhal left their secure homes to set up a new base of operations at the old site of Princeton University, fortifying the campus and securing their position there. Numerous old parts were salvaged, but the most significant development was the activation of defensive Protectrons which had been left dormant on campus. The robots have resumed their duties providing for the security of the residents of the university.

Overseer's Challenge: Fort Narwhal is increasingly considered to be the center of our faction, being closer and more easily accessible to the other settlements than the USS Narwhal. The leader there has continued to grow in influence, and is quite possibly more powerful than Cap'n Ahab. How do we respond?

New Frostburk

Spoiler :

The faction of New Frostburk had a mostly quiet and peaceful year. New Frostburk proper introduced a new band from enterprising young inhabitants, calling themselves the Lucky Bottoms and Nederlander Band. Playing big band music, both original compositions and pre-war tunes, they have proved immensely popular among the extensive young adult population. They have been rendered exempt from most day to day duties, and have provided a hardy boost in local morale.

Efforts were made to salvage regional pre-war rail depots and some considerable scrap and tech parts were recovered from the efforts. Other salvaging and scouting around Cumberland found little besides burnt land, though the ruins of Allegany Community College did have some old working electronics which were salvaged for their tech parts. New Frostburk itself made moves to become more self-sufficient, setting up the humble beginnings for local farming.

Overseer's Challenge: Over half of our population these days is under the age of twenty. They have become increasingly restless under the reign of their elders. This has caused an increasing rise in petty crime and acts of violence. How do we respond?

Spring Valley Food Corporation

Spoiler :

The Spring Valley Food Corporation continued its recovery from the last year's water shortage this year, as they increased their control over local water sources. They successfully began setting up new purifiers and greatly enhanced the amount of water able to be purified from old radioactive sites and collected amounts from the wastelands. Salvage also helped, particularly as they began small scale farming with limited equipment brought back from the ruins. Overall, the year was very quiet for the people of the Corporation, with only few, easily dispatched, raiders and monsters lurking in the local wasteland. Heated debate continued over contacting the "ERC" heard over the radio, and tensions have been running high. Unfortunately the debate was not resolved as not enough parts were salvaged to create a working radio station of their own.

Overseer's Challenge: A heard of what appears to be some sort of evolution of buffalo has appeared from the west, grazing on what little vegetation there is. These massive creatures are heading towards our settlements. How do we respond?

The Community

Spoiler :

The Community had a moderately eventful year, starting with a major sports scandal within the faction's soccer league, in which several players from Agrestic were caught using Jet to increase their speed and performance. The coach of the team was arrested by the security forces of the town, and was replaced by Mayor Nealon. The players were placed under supervision by the town doctor and eventually relieved of their drug addiction. Soon after the scandal, a new crisis erupted. Two major raider attacks were launched upon each of The Community's settlements, leaving thirty dead, and others wounded. However, due to the successful defense of both communities and the majority of homesteads, Mayor Nealon won this year's elections in a landslide, assuring his position as mayor once again.

Overseer's Challenge: The increasing frequency of raider attacks indicates there could be a raider den somewhere in our vicinity. How do we respond?

Vault 2

Spoiler :

The inhabitants of Vault 2, with exception of their combined expedition with the Narwhales to West Point, had a fairly quiet year. New York City, particularly Manhattan continued to be salvaged for parts and supplies to aid in their efforts. Guns, food, and water were all obtained from various residences, as were some functioning remnants of the old world. Unfortunately, the community's loyalty took a hit as people began departing the vault for the perceived safety and strength of the Narwhal Legion.

Overseer's Challenge: The vault's reactor technician has reported that the nuclear reactor has begun producing higher levels of energy, but at a cost of irradiating the reactor room. The reactor could be set back to previous levels to stop the radiation leak, but we'd be forced to sacrifice the extra energy. How do we respond?

Vutg

Spoiler :

Vutg had an extraordinarily quiet year, as most efforts were taken into reclaiming the Winter Quarters museum from a large amount of ghouls. The fight was incredibly one-sided as a well-planned battle led to their utter destruction at a distance in the open. Winter Quarters was cleared of hostiles and the people of Vutg established a settlement there to take advantage of local farming equipment and knowledge. Much as Mormon settlers had three hundred years ago, the vault dwellers began farming and providing for themselves what the vault could not provide. The efforts at Winter Quarters have proven successful, but have not yet been brought back to the fabricated walls of Vault 9. Disputes arose within the vault about the "ERC" which proved inconclusive as no real contact was made with that elusive organization.

Overseer's Challenge: The recent slaughter of ghouls at Winter Quarters has led to some people being concerned about the possible humanity of these creatures. They believe that the para-lawyers committed murder against these beings and that further ones could be rehabilitated. How do we respond?

Wild Wolves

Spoiler :

The Wild Wolves had a fairly quiet year as local raiders and other folk have learned to give the Jacksonville area a wide berth. Large scavenging expeditions were sent out to previous locations, finding more supermarkets and stores, and increasing their stockpiles of supplies and medical equipment. Anti-radiation medicines were discovered, as the Wolves began preparing for a renewed expedition to the highly irradiated Camp Blanding. Some fighting took place against the large gators which have recently become more and more numerous, with limited success. Small arms and melee weapons have proved largely ineffective against the alligators, and casualties have been heavy, with little success found in killing them or finding their nests. They continue to plague the people and attack unwary scouts.

Overseer's Challenge: A group of slaves have rebelled and taken control of our stockpiles, taking some hostages as well into the buildings. They have demanded that the soldiers of Homecave stand down, give up their weapons and some travelling supplies, and allow the slaves to escape from their condition. How do we respond?

VERY IMPORTANT: Remember that some minor changes have been made to the rules. If you don't take a look, you'll likely suffer in upcoming updates from ignorance. The only difference I'd like to note is that I've changed my mind on new settlements requiring Scrap Parts to be construction to deciding to keep it as is.

Nineteenth Lesson of the Wasteland: If you're going to found a settlement across a body of water or use a body of water to supply a new settlement, you better be sure that you're allocating a transport craft each turn to do so. Otherwise, people gonna die.

@ChiefDesigner: I'm not particularly good with Canadian geography, some minor assistance in which direction the places you talk about are from where your nation is would help me immensely. Also where the scouting parties are coming from would also help. I really have no idea where most of the stuff you wanted done is supposed to happen (meaning the wells or farming).

@Anonymoose: I'd recommend posting your programs on the thread to incorporate it into the ongoing stories.

@Milarqui: I had to wing it with your orders, because "properly armed" isn't saying much, particularly considering that you still need to keep some weapons at home to maintain patrols. Therefore I spared what I could based on your orders for each of the new settlements, which is the probable cause of any losses sustained in their efforts.

@Blaze Injun: I've assumed that your farming settlements are close enough to the bunker that we don't need to list them as separate outposts at the moment. I'm considering them as part of your capital community.

@Toteone: Fort Lee isn't a fort. It's a neighborhood. Also, the Cloister place is too close to Vault 2 to be a separate outpost on the map or in your stats. The Scavenging continued as planned however. Also, as I understand it, the museum there wouldn't have anything useful to you, as it seems to be mostly religious and artistic artifacts, nothing of much practicality.
