C2C - Civics Discussion Thread

Some already use Astronomical. Such as Off Planet Dumping uses Astronomical cost. Same with Mind Control, Time Drafting, Time Travel Education and Universal Translator.

Is it possible to scale the civic upkeep with era?

I was thinking more about the later game than this when agreeing there should be civic upkeep levels higher than what we have.

@Slick: Do you have a religion with a shrine bringing in gold in this breakdown? If so, how many?

I don't have a religion. I never get to found them on deity, that's one area that is difficult I admit :)
Always quite far behind in techs - at least until renaissance anyway.

My games are the same way, infact my last game i was 18 "GRIDS" behind, try that some time.
I had str of 8-10, they had str of 20-26 or even more. . .

1 thing i hated then was the turn times, they lasted sometimes around 4-5 minutes each turn..

@CIVPlayer8 Seems like the AI likes 'No Agriculture' - does it have something to do with the seed camps? -25% slower growth is quite a lot. Here's an example, as you can see they are far past agriculture tech.

Remember "No Agriculture" has -50% (or -75%) slower growth, so changing from it should be good as far as that is concerned.
 
In Sgtslicks screenshot this brings up something I'm curious as to why it's Never been fixed, the Civics header. We have 14 categories but only 7 Headers.

Is this just too hard to fix?

It is probably just awkward as it is in the python. It looks like they did it right for the number of actual values and just forgot the headers.

Edit Put it down as awkward - I know I have not yet had my coffee yet but I cant find where that screen is even drawn!

Edit 2 actually it is worse that that. See the screen I get. A scroll bar is needed somewhere.

It does not seem to use the normal civic option text because it needs abbreviations.
 
And it does not just go through all the civics like the body does! If no one else fixes it I will ad it to my list.

BTW are we still using the task system? making a task with a link to AIAndy's post would be a god way of keeping the problem and solution from getting lost - I'll add a task!

Edit 2 - just tried to get the headings right and discovered that the headings box does get a scroll bar if it gets too long but it does not relate in any way to the body. So you can move the headings but not the other. It also displays the scroll bar over the text so you cant see it anyway.:crazyeye:

Dunno. BBAI logs may throw light on it, but wait until after my next update. LOTs of changes in civic assessment, and MUCH more detailed civic choice logging are going in...
 
What's going on with money civics? Right now coinage is a civic to go for, because it has +coin +hammer +food from trade routes, and everything else just gives extra cash that you don't need. I'm right now getting +10k per turn (30 cities, deity, 2nd biggest map, early industrial ages).

Please, don't do that until v27 has been released. Are you going to use Afforess' model for the Labour civic? If so there needs to be one between the first and second, "Specialization" where people start to do the stuff they are good at and exchange services. I reckon it comes in at the Cooperation tech, yes very early.

Once you have removed the Slavery civic we need to go through and see which civics allow slaves and what bonuses and malus should go on each slave.

I have been wanting to do this for awhile but its hard to find images. As you know I already did Patriarchy and Matriarchy. But I got stuck after that.

Okay, but what was Afforess' model?
Was this an actual Bug fix?

Or an adjustment to appease a specific playstyle?
I guess technically a bug fix. I never meant for any of the currency civics to have a trade bonus like that.
