Capto Iugulum

hmm, a bronze. not bad for a next to nothing country.

EQ, while she didn't place, could I get a rough estimate of how well the first female Olympian did in her event? close to a medal, middle of the pack, or very poorly?

6 Gold, 4 Silver and 1 Bronze. Not too bad.

1 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze. The Italian Olympians have done well, but they can and will do better in future Olympic events.

To: Ecuador
From: Peru

Had we been contacted last year by the liberal government that your revolutionaries just overthrew, before it approached our economic competitors, we would have accepted. As it is Peru expects Ecuador will stabilize this year much like an injection of white bloodcells stabilizes a body. We must be as honorable as to declare at the same time as our partners in this venture.
Civilians will be treated kindly if they do not assist the proletarists, bear arms or break the curfew in areas that are liberated towards the goal of a new constitution and elections.
Ecuador's borders will be held sacrosanct and foreign troops will leave after elections.

2 Gold and a Silver! Or is it 1 Gold and 2 Silver?
Still, well done to all those who represented Hungary!
:D

Every soldier who invades Ecuador will be killed.

Every enemy Soldier that is captured is to be burned alive. That is an official order.

I call it Peruvian Barbecue.

We are going to wipe out the Peruvian race from the face of the earth. Our Army shall not only defend against you, but will also counter attack and destroy Peru.

To Ecuador
From Peru

If you can accomplish that then proletarism must truly be the correct course somehow. We look forward to the field of battle, and will end our communications on this note.

OOC to EQ: The first page says aircraft squadrons will cost manpower primarily for support functions (29/30 to be exact). Does this mean MP will largely be refunded when they are shot down?

:) Notes of Interest: The Confederation (sp corrected) now has the largest navy in Europe and the Netherlands is a close third. Persia has built a large navy by Middle Eastern standards (209 points to runner-up Oman's 158 (seems they expanded their fleet too)), becoming the dominant naval power in close proximity to the Indian Ocean (the Dutch East Indies fleet, by far the largest naval fleet based outside of a capital region, is worth 96 points.), Venezuela has also jumped up several ranks (150 points).

With exception of a single person I have allowed ispensation for, no more orders are allowed beyond this point. As the Doctor Who season starter is tonight, the update will either be posted very late this evening or some time tomorrow morning.

Mariah shook her head. “I know I can’t dissuade you,” she said dejectedly. “But you know how badly I wish I could. I can never approve of your decision, Esther. Never.”

Esther sat across from her in the parlor. She crossed her legs and pulled down the hem of her dress, nervously. She avoided Mariah’s gaze. “Mama… please. I want your approval. I need it. You know why I want to do this.”

Mariah shook her head. “I don’t care why, Esther. I’ve lost your father to the war. I nearly lost your brother. I don’t want another child in harm’s way out there, no matter whether you’re carrying a gun or not.” She shrugged grandiosely. “But you are eighteen. I can’t tell you what to do. Do whatever you want.”

“Mama, please don’t say that!” Esther said, her voice quavering. “You know it’s not that simple. Yes, I can join the nursing corps without your approval, but… but I want everything to be okay. You’re my Mama. And I love you. And I want you to be proud of me!”

Mariah raised her voice. “How can you think I can approve of you going out there! Esther, look at me!” Esther did as she was told. Her eyes were red. “Your father was killed. Your brother was almost killed, and even then, he lost his fingers! With you in harm’s way, too, that makes four of my loved ones at that Godforsaken front! I don’t think I could handle that!”

“I want to be a nurse. I’m not going to be at the front, Mama. Joseph was saved by someone in the nursing corps. She took care of him, and now he’s training to be a lieutenant! She gave him back to us, Mama. God gave him back to us! And I only want to do the same for someone else, help God give someone else their brother or son or husband back.”

“Esther, I don’t want to get another letter saying you were killed and a letter from you saying you were killed for a good cause. I already have one of those! Want to read it?”

“I read Papa’s letter, Mama. But maybe I can help another woman not get such a letter herself.”

Mariah could tell she was losing the fight. She dropped her forehead into her hands, her tears beginning to wet her palms. She heard Esther stand up and walk over to her, and felt her soft hand on her back, her cool breath beside her. “I can do a lot of good at the front, Mama,” she said softly. “I prayed about it all night, and I think this is what God wants me to do. And I’ll be safe. I’m not asking to be a field medic. Just a nurse. I’ll be in hospitals behind the lines.”

Mariah shook her head. “The Proletarists are pushing the lines back, Esther. And some of the negroes in Florida are joining them. No place there is safe. Everywhere is the front lines.” She looked her daughter in the eyes. “And not all those men are to be trusted. What if one of them decides to harm you, take advantage of you?”

A little twitch of a smile touched Esther’s lips. “Or what if I meet the man I’m meant to love?”

Mariah shook her head, but could say no more. She said softly, “I will always be proud of you, Esther. Do what you feel you must.”

Esther reached out and hugged Mariah. “I love you, Mama.”

“I hope I’ll hear you say that again,” Mariah said.

OOC: Good job Ecuador/Christos. Looks like you held us off Colombia-Peruvian victory in year one... this'll be a fun fight. :)
