Christian facists on the march?

Clearly, you are being obtuse.

Because if you were reading what I'd been posting you'd realize the following;
1. Did I blame Christianity for germs? no.
2. Did I blame Christianity for destroying the world? no.
3. Did I say the Aztecs were great or peace-loving? no.

Crosby's work considered is still considered the leading work on this topic. It was originally published in ~1973.

You've lept to all these ridiculous conclusions that I'm not even offering. You also completely dismiss 2 legit works on the subject, but in so doing expose that you have no idea what you're talking about, since they
A. they are not works of archaeology
B. they are not proved or disproved by archaeology, and, in fact, they may all support each other in the end.
C. the archaeology you're refering is about the Mayans. I'm talking about the Aztecs.
D. And, yes, the Aztecs had some horrible practices. As did the Spanish. Neither excuses the other.

For instance Columbian Exchange is about the vast biological exchange between two civilizations and you refute it w/ a 500 word essay about some Mayan cannibals? HUH? They are complete non-sequitors.

You asked for some information and I gave you some of the most credible stuff in academia and you dismissed it out of hand. This continues to support my prior assertions about your point of view. You are not interested in a true, objective assessment, you are interested in proselytizing.

Would you look at the title of this thread? Christians are fascists! That is not me proselytizing. It is defending the fact that I (who is probably the most fundamentalist Christian here) and my contemporaries are NOT facists.

It always ends up degraded into some kind of horrible thing done in the past by Christians. Why this always happens is because of the same arguments. It is always the same garbage: inquisitions, persecutions of jews, conquest of America. OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

Can't you guys ever move on?

I have debated this Mayan issue a dozen times here! When is it enough? The newest finds in May/June 2004 in Archaeology Institute Magazine are NEWER than 1973. HELLO! And the article givers the impressions that these people were a great deal more brutal to the Christians than was before known, easing the guilt somewhat of these priests!

Why can't anyone look at our society and say, "Well I guess Christians aren't that bad", why is it always, 'You're trying to take over the world!' or "you are facists!'

Do you expect us to just sit here and get baited without setting the record straight? Then when we do, no one listens, but deflects to some old 500 year old malady. It's preposterous.

It's BS. plain and simple.

And now, I am leaving. I'll be late as it is.

The irony. Replace Christians with Muslims, and you'll have something to say.

Thanks, .Shane., that got me cracking up.

What does that have to do with what I posted?

It has been used for centuries to rationalize the persecution of Jews.

If I'm not mistaken, Little Raven is Catholic. It's not a troll thread.

Well that's a lot more tame than your previous assertions.

Again, if you're worried about the West's future, look to Asia, not Saudi Arabia.

Have a nice evening!

It is NOT alot more tame. It is the same old thing I say EVERY TIME!

I'm not worried about Asia because I think they might like to watch my daughter in a show, not ban it. They might want to marry her... they have very few girls right now, but at least we will keep our own culture. It is a big difference. I'd probably be the first to get beheaded, knowing me.

Not in the same words, and believe me it really matters on an internet forum.

What I'm saying is that China will pass the West a long time before any Islamic country will.

You do realize that conversations evolve, right? Thus, I was replying to the evolution of the thread as I thought the original premise was silly. Maybe if you reread my posts in that light, you'll see I'm not interested in disparaging Christians/Christianity per se.

I just saw some points that piqued my interest.

Can't you guys ever move on?

You shouldn't overgeneralize. As I said above, its not like the people here, esp. Masq and myself are condemning a religion of even agreeing w/ the OP. Take our posts at face value, w/out inference.

/sigh

Did you read my reply? I'm not talking about the Mayans. Even if I was, the article you linked to doesn't refute Crosby, in fact, they're completely different subjects. But, you don't care to look that far. Also, even if they were, "newer" information is not necessarily "better", ironically, given your stated belief system I'd think you'd understand this better.

I actually read the article you linked and find nothing to disagree with. However, that has nothing to do with why the Indian civilizations "lost" the struggle with Europe. If disease hadn't wiped out 90% of their populations, the world would be so different today, I can't even contemplate it.

Why can't anyone look at our society and say, "Well I guess Christians aren't that bad", why is it always, 'You're trying to take over the world!' or "you are facists!'

Do me a favor, if you can't reply to my posts at face value, don't reply. That is the courtesy that I've always extended to you. I've said neither of those things (in the above post), but your replies to me are judgemental, lumping me in w/ those Points of view.

Do you expect us to just sit here and get baited without setting the record straight? Then when we do, no one listens, but deflects to some old 500 year old malady. It's preposterous.

Us? I have some news for you. Christians are not some homogeneous group of single-minded people. In fact, I'd wager that some of the people arguing w/ you on this point consider themselves Christians. I think that's one of my issues w/ your posts and style. You act as if you speak for all Christianity and all possible viewpoints related to Christianity. You do not. You speak only for yourself. As humans, both of us equally fallible, we should both have the humility to understand that our own interpretations of God are not, cannot be perfect, and thus we should be wary of trying to assume them for others. I would never correct you in your personal beliefs, but in turn I don't want you to act as my spokesmodel.

I think the fundamentalist Christians had better form their own political party if they want better representation. Now that the repulicans have lost big in the votes, the happy marriage between both has dissolved, and each is blaming the other for the losses. Now wHo wouldn't have predicted that.

You wound me, Shane. My original post didn't call ANYONE fascist. It merely expressed a certain schadenfreude that such accusations were flying in the wake of Tuesday's disaster. ;)

Oil and water aren't BAD, they just don't MIX.

Sure they do, just add a little soap!

I guess soap could play the role of america, freedom, or logic in your metaphor.
