Civ Suggestion: Polynesia

Why all the Thailand hate? While it is certainly not the best civ, I find that it is an interesting start in a region of the world that is rarely occupied, and the various UU/UB/UP all serve to differentiate from the Khmer.
Nobody hates Thailand. It does not have a sufficiently meaningful existence in this game to warrant an emotional response.

Woah, this blew up again. I appreciate the interest in my idea, so thought I'd do a rethink of it, just for my own sake.

I've moved the UHV back to allow for an "ancient" Polynesia, and to be less deterministic and more interesting. The first UHV is the old Portuguese UHV, but actually tied to exploring since no one will have Paper by 1000 BC. I also went back to my old Canoe idea (renamed to be a war canoe) to make the UHV more challenging.

A general lack of hammers is not a bad thing, provided they use slavery... could the UP be reworked to encourage poprush?

the obvious possibke vassal name is french polynesia.

and the map goal isnt going to work. china will send a scout across mosy of eurasia

What in the name of the great Ferdinand Magellan?

That is just the most overpowered thing I have witnessed in quite some time. I also feel reminded of what I said about Indonesia and countering its geographical weaknesses through UPs. What does Polynesia need all this production for? It's not exactly a region of the world known for its huge armies or city infrastructure.

Maybe it should be +1 Hammers on coast tiles or +1 Hammers on Water tiles if you know at least two other civs?

Wasn't the original idea to give the hammers just as base production, not per sea tile? That would make it less incredibly overpowered.

Focused on playable civ with 'small population'

Sound like a great civ, very fun to play.
Here's my two cents:
Cent 1: I've heard many people worrying about the UB building becoming obsolete to quickly, namely when a religion spreads to the city. I don't see why that should be a problem. The Egyptian obelisk also replaces the pagan temple, but doesn't become obsolete when a religion comes to their cities. Can't we simply use the same trick for the Mozai statues?
Cent 2: Will the AI be able to use the UP properly? Will it understand the importance of sustaining contact?

Secret third cent.
Cent 3: Wouldn't it be a little to easy for this fic to be the first to cycle the globe? That harmless cute canoe can become a powerful tool of naval invasion if it gets the +1 movement and attacks from the ocean.

I'd prefer the Moai to be represented as a wonder again (required for uhv?) rather than a building since, after all that's what they are, a wonder. Then that should somewhat compensate for a lack of production rather than an overpowered uhv.

If Polynesia is designed similarly to the Vikings, and has to rely on popping borders quickly for island hopping, how about a UP or UB that gives 1 culture per worked sea resource?

Yep border popping will be involved. I don't even think they'd need an ocean-faring UU to colonize the Pacific Islands. Maybe the UP should instead remove the rule that only allows two tiles of culture spread into the sea?

An UB that provides extra culture to help with that is also a good idea.

Will be involved? Does that mean that Polynesia is confirmed to be a future civ?

In the potential scenario where I'm adding them ... wow you have to be careful what to say around here :p

My opinion: Playing as Polynesia would be very difficult. There are so many small Pacific islands that provide little resources. Polynesia wouldn't have much room to expand because of this.
Polynesia could spawn in 300-500 AD in a slightly larger and more hospitable Hawaii. Maybe slightly expand some of the islands by one tile and remove the mountains. Maybe the UB could allow for all naval units to enter the ocean so the Polynesians could expand to the rest of the Pacific. The UP could be similar to ones you guys suggested.
