Civ Suggestion: Polynesia

Thanks for the map change suggestions and historical research! I would've needed to do that all by myself.

I agree. I think that they should be able to be turned off as a minor civ just like all other civs 1.10 onwards, but I don't think that they should be player-exclusive.
I would of course include them in this mechanic but set their standard appearance probability to zero.

I agree with that, but please don't make their UU an ocean-faring galley, that would allow too many cheesy options
Yeah, rereading the thread I realized that I already concluded that this is a bad idea.

I should probably go ahead and propose my plan:

Unique Power: The Power of Navigation: Culture spreads across Ocean tiles.
Unique Unit: Waka (Galley with halved costs and +1 movement, can only carry non-military units)
Unique Building: Marae (Courthouse with Pagan Temple costs, -25% upkeep, +4 hammers, one artist slot)

1. Make great artist.
2. Make great artwork in Hawaii.
3. Culture spread to coast of West Mexico.
4. Settle Americas.
5. ...
6. PROFIT!

Probably a stupid question, but does scouts count for military units too?

Yes. Everything that has military strength counts as military unit.

That limitation is actually kind of smart, so that Polynesians can't simply colonize or conquer outside of relatively peaceful pacific islands.

There are a few reasons why there should be no Polynesia outside of player-controlled:

-AI sucks at water-play, especially with the production defect that those Pacific Islands have, there is no way the AI can do anything.
-If Polynesian culture extends to the Americas, I could open borders with them as Aztecs and could potentially do a reverse discovery of the "Old World".

I think that it is an overall good design.

This looks great!:goodjob:
If you set their standard appearance probability to zero, how would I change it to 1 (or whatever guarantees their appearance)?
And for the second UU and UB modcomp, I'd suggest the Maori Warrior and Moai

THIS IDEA IS AMAZING LEORETH!!!!

Edit: for the player color, I would suggest this color - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquamarine_(color) (rgb=127, 255, 212)

love all of this

Move Honiara 1E. Bougainville and Guadalcanal are separate islands; it doesn't seem right for two islands to be accessible by land to each other.

I would, but then it’ll make Vanuatu kinda awkward and need to be moved 1E and so all the other islands in the east. That will reduce the distance between Tahiti and Rapa Nui.
(at first, I conjoint Bougainvillea to New Britain but that looka very ugly )

When I design this, I didn’t plan to use Bougainville as a city, but only as a copper mine. The city I planned were Rabaul (German New Guinea) and Honiara (Britain)

Yourwelcome. I’m still researching about Tu’i Tonga Empire, pretty interesting, and I lready made several mistakes on the map I propose  will revise.

UP: Isn’t culture already spreads across Ocean tiles? iirc Viking in-game reach Iceland and then Greenland, then New World because their culture spreads across ocean tiles so navigeable.
UU: Since Galley are early transporters, if no military unit can’t be carried, then every settlers when settling a new city will left it undefended...? That will give +1 Anger with Dynastycism until the island produce their own military unit.
how about adding exception for Warriors? so Waka can only carry non-military and warrior only.

BTW, can you change Khmer colours? It's very difficult to see its borders.

Talking about colors, I hope Leoreth will consider changing Indonesia's primary & secondary color to White and Red as well. There's no Red or White color nearby (Khmer, Thai, India, Tamil, Spain, China, and Dutch) and being surrounded with many coasts & oceans, I think blue isn't ideal color for that.

But off course this is OOT while we're talking about Polynesia

The normal rules are that ocean can only be covered with culture if it is in a city radius. This isn't sufficient to reach Hawai'i or Rapa Nui.

That's the point. You should only be able to colonize islands where barbarians are not a problem.

(Speaking of which, we probably need capes to keep them away from New Guinea and Australia.)

I don't think their UU should be able to enter ocean tiles. I think the Island hopping will be fun. If the UU can cross ocean tiles, a very important part of the challenge is gone.

@ Leoreth
Are their other things we could do for you, beside the map changes? (collecting art, creating settler-/stabilitymaps etc.)

History Rewritten also has a Polynesian civ. We can borrow the UU art, maybe the UB are and possibly the LH art.
That's what I was going to do :mischief:

But thanks for the links.
