Civ4 Beyond the Sword Patch v3.17 is out

version still says 3 :S confusing me cuz i did the patch the way u said n it worked so im lost

this is a botched patch install - I have seen it around here quite often for 3.13 - but apparently it also happens for 3.17 - the following is a list of things to do for a complete removal and subsequent reinstall of the game. Some of the things are probably unnecessary - but I recommend going the safe route once the easy one failed once
If you do not have warlords ignore those items...


install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

then do the following for a clean reinstall:

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Civ4
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS)
(note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).
Install Civ4, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here)
Install Warlords, immediately patch it to 2.08 (download it fresh from here)
Install Beyond the Sword, immediately patch to 3.17 (download it fresh from here).

Is it just me, or is there an undocumented change in this patch that allows forests to grow on tundra. Before this patch I had never noticed a forest expanding onto a tundra tile, but I've seen it happen a couple of times post patch.

went ingame and clicked update. Big mistake. Now I get to sit with no info on progress or whether there acutally is any progress at all. I can't go anywhere due to the invisible patching process that is said to be happening...

Same thing happened to me. After literally 20 hours I aborted the process, which screwed up BTS.

Not good After 10 minutes with no info I started to dowload the patch and once the patch was downloaded I went to task manager and quit Civ4. Then I ran the patch as usual. It seems to have worked fine (just started up a game).

Same thing happened to me. After literally 20 hours I aborted the process, which screwed up BTS.

Happened to me to but it did not screw up anything and I ended up downloading and installing standalone patch. Seems to work fine. As far as I could tell, it did not even start to download anything in the 2 hours I left it to autopatch (no data was being transfered). Patching vanilla/warlords worked fine. Problem was only with BtS.

I think the problem is with Bhruic's patch. I'm not sure, but it may break autopatching. It's the only explanation that explains why auto-update worked for me but not others (I never installed Bhruic's patch). Remember, BtS is the only version of the game that had unofficial patches.

For me it was clean install, first time for this PC. For Vanilla and Warlords autopatching worked fine but BtS just hung.

Does anyone know if 3.13 saves work under the 3.17 patch? I have a couple mp games with friends saved in the 19th and 20th centuries and want to finish them up before installing the new patch if they won't be compatible.
