[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

I’m going to make a guess, but I think that the last pack is going to be a returning civ, and there are only 2 places I think it could be at: Portugal and Native America. Out of these I think it could be Portugal, The Iroquois, and the Shoshone.

Shoshone I would rule out tbh, it's not an especially obvious choice when compared to other native American groups. If people are under the impression it might become a series regular that is in my opinion a perspective distorted by it being in the most recent Civ game before this. If anything, I think it being in Civ 5 makes it less likely to show up here, since it's been featured recently and it's more likely they will pick a different group since Shoshone is hardly so significant that it's irreplaceable. For the same reason I'm not thinking Cree is unlikely to reappear in the next game.

I think speculating first featured in Civ 5 civs might return just because they were in that game doesn't make sense really. Yes some of them have returned, for instance Brazil being in the base game, Indonesia and Poland in DLC, and Sweden in an expansion. And those ones seem to be potential regulars for various reasons- partly for marketing reasons I'd say- aiming to represent countries with large populations or significant video game popularity, and partly just trying not to leave significant parts of the world unrepresented. It seems some representation for Polynesia will be in civ games now (Polynesia and now Maori), and following the lead of Mapuche and Kongo I think we can expect more variety in South American and Sub-Saharan African civilizations in the future. But, Assyria seems to have essentially been swapped out for Sumeria as the Mesopotamian civ which isn't Babylon slot this time, in spite of Assyria having ruled the largest empire in history up to that point. And Austria, Venice and Huns haven't appeared, and I doubt they will as future DLC.

Iroquois is a possibility I would agree, but on the 'returning civ' rationale I think that Sitting Bull coming back (this time leading Sioux instead of 'Native Americans') is just as plausible. I can think of no reason why other groups like the Apache, Navajo, Comanche, etc., aren't at least just as likely to show up as the Shoshone. It's not like it saves them work since they would hardly going to copy their Civ 5 design anyway, and in terms of popularity yes Shoshone will be fairly popular now among civ fans for having appeared in Civ 5, but groups like the Apache already need no introduction.

Are we getting an April update after the NFP ends?

Well if we are talking about geographical completion might as well throw in something from North Africa too to make it an even 52 with another Ancient Egyptian leader.
Perhaps we will get a Civ or an alternate leader in December as a Christmas gift, maybe some additional modding capabilities or restored stability on massive maps * pretty please * :please:

I think if they are generous enough to give us a free leader, it probably would come at the end to bring a closure to Civ6, and it will maximize the amount of surprise because people may think March civ should be the last one. Of course, this is just us being hopeful and try to imagine the ideal situation.

In terms of the new City-States coming with the Babylon Pack and the cultural/people they represented:

Ayutthaya - an early modern Siamese kingdom, the precursor of modern Thailand - Cultural
Chinguetti - a medieval trading center on the Trans-Sahara Trade Routes, in West Africa - Religious
Johannesburg - the gold rush mining town in South Africa - Industrial
Nalanda - an autonomous Buddhism university (Mahavihara) in Eastern India - Science
Samarkand - a trading center on the Silk Road, in Central Asia - Economic
Wolin - a West Slavic tribe settled on the Baltic coast, who created an important militaristic and trading hub of the same name before being conquered by Polish kings - Militaristic

All these are very welcome additions to the game, and they covered "non-civ" regions such as Thailand, South Africa, the city states on the Central Asian and West African trade routes. I don't think having a Buddhism university as a "science" CS is a good idea and I was hoping for more Central Asia CS, but these are good enough.

Trung Trac is a new Great General!

She was the queen of the two, so it seems we will have one of the Vietnamese Emperors as the leader instead.

Empress. Unless Firaxis is suddenly breaking from their usual "3 women leaders" trend.

Oh, that's what I tried to say in the previous post. I think they will; and if Trung Sisters don't show up, the leader choice will be very likely from the Emperors of Vietnam dynasties.

Soo Trưng Trắc is already out as a great general in the Babylon pack. Does that mean, Trưng Nhị leads the Vietnamese empire in Sid Meier's Civilization 6 ?
That'd be kinda interesting if Kublai Khan and Trưng Nhị appear in the next pack!!

Trung Nhi was the subordinate of the two sisters. That seems unlikely.

Among the Trung Sisters, it was only Trung Trac was being recognized as a Queen in all the historical records, including the Chinese side of the sources.

I don't remember reading about any empresses. There are a few Boudicca-style characters in the Vietnamese history, though I don't think they're that likely.

No chance. If they wanted to do anything in that style, Nhi would be the general.

Any chance of Trung Trac being replaced by his sister in the next big patch and his inclusion now is just to misslead us to think she isnt the Vietnam leader?

It seems like an unlikely misdirection.

I would say there is a low but non-zero chance that the Kublai Khan/Vietnam datamining was an unintentional red herring resulting from a path they ultimately didn't follow.
