[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

3) Because this is a DLC pack and not an expansion, the practice of including 3 female leaders is null and the Vietnamese leader is a man

Random inference:

Currently we have Hojo Tokimune in the game, who fought with Kublai during the Mongol invasions of Japan.
Kublai is very likely to come into the game in January.
Kublai will come with Vietnam, a country that also fought with Kublai during his reign.

During Kublai's Mongol invasions of Vietnam (1282-1288), the Vietnam leaders were Trần Khâm (Trần Nhân Tông, then emperor) and Trần Hoảng (Trần Thánh Tông, then Emperor Emeritus and also a general, had experienced the 1st Mongol invasion when he was emperor).

Looks like Firaxis ditched the 3 female leaders approach for the New Frontier, then. For better or worst. At least we don't get Maria the Mad for Portugal again.

There are still the other possibilities I suggested, such as a mythical female leader or Vietnam just not being in the game. Plus, there could be much better female regent leaders that just don't appear in wikipedia articles.

Don't forget the Vietnamese royal who was ousted in the Trần coup and so helped defend Korea against the Mongols. Involving these folks with the theme of Mongol expansions in the east is downright cheating.

What about Nam Phuong? She was the last Empress Consort, and while she didn't hold nominal power, seemed to have been popular as a civil leader. She did charity work with the Red Cross and was on the post-WW2 reconstruction committee for Vietnam. Unfortunately, her husband was complicit with the Japanese during WW2, and they were ousted by the Communist takeover in the 50s. She lived the remainder of her life in exile in France.

Ah, Lý Long Tường. He will be an interesting Great General choice.

I have suspected they might pair Trần Nhân Tông with Kublak, a Dai Viet ruler that opposed him successfully twice for a while. I suppose we shall see!

My first thought when I saw Trung Trac on the patch list was "Time for a new direction in the Vietnam speculation"
I'm glad to have more unknowns for the next dlc pack (assuming Vietnam shows up of course)

What are the chances they've just gone with Ho Chi Minh? I don't know how controversial he is compared to other historical socialist leaders.

I feel like they would want to stay away from that time period, due to biases in the US. Especially when there is a vast array of possibilities from Vietnam's thousands of years of history.

Yeah. However, if we wanted another modern leader, maybe JFK, Jack Lang, and Billy Hughes could work.

I think Le Loi is the most obvious choice now that the Trung Sisters are out.

@Eagle Pursuit If Vietnam/Kublai is a Red Herring, then the Economic Mode is also a Red Herring. That would be the real tragedy.

Edit: Also, I find it very unlikely they'd give us a full Civ/Leader for free, as some people have suggested. I could see a Persona.

But I've commented before they might still have a couple of individual DLC after NFP, then a final update before releasing whatever else they're working on.

I think if they are generous enough to give us a free leader, it probably would come at the end to bring a closure to Civ6, and it will maximize the amount of surprise because people may think March civ should be the last one. Of course, this is just us being hopeful and try to imagine the ideal situation.

I don't know why this is being speculated about, I suppose it's technically possible but it would be very naive to expect anything like that. They've already given some free content over the last few months, so plenty of goodwill gesture towards fans already, don't see why they would go further than that, they aren't a charity!

Plus, they've already integrated a mod into the base game, so I don't see why they wouldn't integrate more. You're also right about the charity part. We can't expect them to just hand stuff to us on a silver plate.

Well... We have Gandhi, so...

Trung Trac is a new Great General!
Well this is interesting news.
Am I the only one thinking that they could still easily replace her with Trung Nhi when Vietnam comes out? :mischief:

Oooh... A red herring, perhaps. :)

Wait, actually they probably could count Magneficent Cath as one female leader come to think of it. Though that'd be weird when Teddy came alongside.

No, someone already mentoined it before. I don't even think it has to be Trung Nhi. Any warmongering or propaganding famous person will do for the effect.
