[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

The biggest issue I see with Kublai is the rest of Mongolia would still be a very calvary domination civ even with a different LUA. They'd have to lean hard on something with maybe trading posts and visibility to have mesh the the UA. Otherwise it seems like it might be a bit of an awkward combo in terms of game mechanics.
He'd probably be a better fit for China than Mongolia.

I know they did Selassie in Civ 5 but I’d like to see him again, if not Menelik II, who somehow hasn’t appeared before.
Does the Axum era not count as Ethiopian history? Because I want personally want Ezana. I actually want early Ethiopian uniques more than just the standard monument replacement like the Shotelai as a UU too.

I feel like Axum overlaps more with Nubia than other Ethiopia iterations

What if we got the Timurids? Not quite Mongolian enough to be duplicative, interesting geographical location, never been in Civ before, had definite cultural legacy in addition to being interesting from a military history perspective.

Eleanor would like to point out that he could be both.

The other real option for alt-leaders for RNF civs is the Netherlands. One of the various Williams of Orange.

I’ve been saying this the whole time. I’d bet that Kublai will be both.

I think there’s a good chance that the Asian civ that isn’t babylon or either vietnam or the Philippines may be the Timurids.

Or they could call it ‘Uzbekistan’ and make it the Timurids or something.

They could have a strong military and trade focuses.

If we have vietnam, what if the leader was a Champa leader rather than the more often mentioned leaders.

Well Ezana did conquer Meroe but the city Axum was centered in present-day northern Ethiopia. In the 4th century they called themselves "Ethiopia" as well.
Besides, the past two games they have gotten Axum era unique monuments. I'm just hoping for more this time around.

It's also worth noting that Aksum has a very strong trade legacy, along with their legendary Solomonic Dynasty. They also had fairly successful overseas invasions (they occupied parts of Yemen for time). Generally, Aksum could focus more on trade/faith. Nubia already specializes in archery and district construction.

I'm hoping it's not Selassie again. Zar'a Ya'qob has my vote, but I know a lot of people are hoping for Menelik II.

I'd be fine with Selassie and I think I prefer him on principle given that he ties so much of the Ethiopian history and global legacy together. But I think Ethiopia should have uniques drawn from across its various polities, much like Germany or Russia do. I think it's one of the hardest civs to choose a specific period to represent it, so I would rather they just go the grand tour route.

I'm not sure if it would come as early as the Classical era if there are only two buildings, though. I think a hospital would work well in the Modern or Industrial era, so the first building might then come in the Renaissance or even Industrial era. So I was thinking of earlier precursors of modern hospitals as we know them today (though even in the medieval period and earlier, hospitals existed). Perhaps a doctors' college or medical school?
I think aqueduct would be the classical Health building and the Health focused district would come in medieval/renaissance.

Oh god please no.

(They are totally separate states, people groups, and cultures)

I expect Ethiopia to be faith based civ no matter what era is represented.

I think Ethiopia could get a bonus from relics.

They could have a Rock-Hewn Church as a temple replacement with +Culture when a Relic is socketed.

The longer I'm thinking the more I'm convinced to Italy. But not a renaissanse one with city states and eternal dilemmas about capitals and leaders but dated back to the time of reunification.
leader - Vittorio Emanuele II
capital - Turin (Rome can be a city when there is no ancient civ)
great general - Giuseppe Garibaldi
ideas - risorgimento or expedition of the thousand
unique unit - the red shirts, recon or infantry unit increasing loyalty or revolting the cities
unique building replacing factory in industrial zone - F.I.A.T. - Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino
What do you think about Italy in this shape?

Ethiopia has more than enough options. Modern Ethopian leaders (particularly Menelik II) could even get away with a production/infrastructure bonus (since the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, was founded at a record speed. Didnt it take around 10 days to settle the entire city?

For the Civ UA i'd love to see something which ties in diplomacy or power with religion.

Unique Shrine plz. We already have two replacements for the Temple. :mischief:

Though the churches of Lalibela are so magnificent I would dearly love to have them as a wonder.
