Oh, my word... Of course! That makes so much sense. White for Mongolia and Yellow for China, it all fits together!Does wearing yellow/ gold signify leading China as well?![]()

Yeah, exactly what I said!! This is significant evidence. Doesn't confirm it, but if it does, I am sure much of the Civ 6 team are history nerds. Like @Boris Gudenuf and I.![]()
Maybe he wears gold when he's leading China and white when he's leading Mongolia?
Shouldn't Kublai be wearing white?

Given that most of his depictions have a hat on top of him, yeah, that what confuses me the most, someewhat. It is actually his lacking of headwears that surprised me.
He has a Mongolian belt on, so that's evidence he's Kublai. Are we sure this is Kublai and not someone else from a Southeast Asian country? I think it is odd that Kublai is somewhat aged here, but yes, the yellow robe might signify China.

Kudos indeed. We shall see. Don't fail us history nerds, Firaxis...I think the Yellow = China, White = Mongol is the key. Yellow or Golden Yellow in Chinese culture was the color of the Center, the Balance, and most of the Imperial Chinese Dynasties (there was at least one that used Red, but it wasn't the Yuan and I can't remember which one it was off the top of me head). White, as mentioned above, was the color of a Shaman's robes in Mongolia.
There are literally dozens of portraits of Kublai (Getty images lists 179, but many of those are modern cinematic portrayals) but very few that are contemporary or near-contemporary, and all of those show either plain white clothing or heavily-decorated (embroidery, decorative stitching) on a white background. Of course, given the effect of age on natural ink or paint colors, 'white' could equally have been pale yellow originally.
Changing the basic color of the robe to match the 'culture' of each Civ would be a really neat touch. Kudos to the art team at Firaxis IF that's what they are doing.

Not that much, but certainly matches.Beard matches with civ 4 Kublai Khan
Of course a Vietnamese ruler wore that: it's just in an alternate universe, Kublai conquered Vietnam and he leads Vietnam.Besides those points, he is definitely Kublai - having Mongolian clothing, having the same beard as Kublai, and, you know, Vietnamese rulers didn't look like that.
Thank You DukeNot that much, but certainly matches.
Also, noticing this is your first post here, and as the unofficial welcoming committee, I hereby welcome you to the Civ Fanatics Forums. We all hope you enjoy your time here and that you have a memorable experience here... Yeah, this is kind of my thing here on the forums.
(I think this is also the first time in civ we have two leaders that are close relatives.)
Kublai and Genghis have both been in civ IV as well I believe.
And I believe Kristina was the daughter of Gustavus Adolphus in civ V, but those were in different games of course. Gustavus Adolphus is a great general in civ VI though.
True, Vietnamese emperors don't wear this, they wear what you would typically imagine what a Chinese emperor wears, which in this case Kublai doesn't wear it either cuz he is not ethnic Han.Besides those points, he is definitely Kublai - having Mongolian clothing, having the same beard as Kublai, and, you know, Vietnamese rulers don't look like that.
If you count leaders across games then Monty I is the grandfather of Monty II as well, but then most civ games before Civ5 never really make it clear whether the leader is Monty I or II. We just know that both have been depicted.Wasn't Maria the Mad Pedro's grandmother? If so, it's the same degree of relationship as between Genghis and Kublai.
