[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

Am I the only one who dosn't care much about the Leaders Appearances/Outfits? I mean, we will get bored of them anyway, once we play with/against them and constantly getting the same Animations/Outfits EVERY Time you deal with them.

I'm more for New UAs, as they are mostly always Unique for each Leader, and they constitute a good opportunity for Modders to use them, in many ways if possible (more unique abillities from just one UA). This (new Abillities/Mechanics) can't be done by Modders, But it's possible to make new 3D art for Leaders (Look at Sukritact's 3D Leaders, you would expect THEM as the Devs work). Problem is, there isn't much that you can use for UAs.

Given how often leaders pop up in my Civ VI games (because of the nature of the game), I care about the leader appearances quite a bit. We are only bored of them already (if we are) because each leader only has like...seven lines and doesn't interact with voice lines in real time (unlike the Civ V leaders).

Exactly! And same thing for the Animations. I would love it if the Leaders would get at least a Throne Room that changes as the Leader is building more things in the City Center, and showing the Art/Relics that they collected so far.

I assumed what we saw what China Kublai, while he'd have white robes, baldness and hat as Mongol Kublai.

The problem being, a Chinese in the 13th century would also bear a unique hairstyle and a unique headwear. The current Kublai is way off on both Mongolian and Chinese headwears and hairstyles.

So it is strange they went with Mongol background, Chinese costume. Or, he just leads Mongolia with a generalist 'asian emperor' outfit to distinguish him from the other Khan.

Again, Kublai is wearing a Mongolian traditional clothing - called Deel - here. Traditional Chinese outfits didn't feature any furry lapel or tight sleeve.

So it is strange they went with Mongol background, Chinese costume. This could, in theory, make him applicable to both Mongolia and China without changing anything. Maybe they used the leader model of one and the background of the other for the tweet? Who knows!
If his background shows him along the Silk Road, that could be applicable for both civs without changing the background.

I disapprove of the laziness. That's all I'm sayin'.

I'm not saying I'd like it either. Just pointing out a possibility.
I think from past experiences, we can see that animations are hard but appearances and other artworks are not as hard, so if two Eleanors have two different appearances and diplomacy screens, Kublai should have as well.

I agree. I'd like two different versions as well.
Plus they all know we like leaders with hats. :mischief:

GS had considerably better art assets than anything that has appeared in NFP, from the exquisite Cothon and Suguba to Kupe's over-the-top animations. Eleanor can't really be cited as an equivalent, given the generally subpar art assets in NFP.

I find the Hippodrome to be one of the better looking districts on par with the Cothon and Suguba, at least.

the cothon and the suguba completely changed how the regular buildings looked and are excellent.

hippodrome looks nice at first but when you fill it out with buildings, it barely looks unique at all because all the unique structures except 1 disappear and the buildings don’t have special models.

the oppidum looks extremely generic too. None of the buildings have special models

the observatory is bizarre looking because the models they added in it completely clash color wise with the library and all other buildings. Again, they should have made the entire district have a unique model set

Noone's mentioning the Hacienda, Rock-Hewn Church, and the Palgum. Any thoughts on them?

The Palgum is fine, the Haciendas could be better, but my favorite is the Rock-Hewn Church.

Whether certain something looks better than others is just subjective more than anything. I think the Soothsayer looks cool, the animation of the Vampire when an adjacent unit dies is also worth mentioning, or Ley Lines beaming with light... I never said two appearances and diplomacy screens of Kublai had to be on the same level of Eleanor, because, once again, that is purely subjective. Considering unique infrastructure and unique units in NFP still look different from their standard versions, just like every other uniques from previous expansions, it is reasonable to expect if Kublai can lead 2 civs, he will have 2 respective appearances, because so far in NFP, nothing has been made to suggest the opposite. Whether or not he will look good in both appearances is definitely not up for debate, because different people have different tastes in aesthetics.

True the buildings don't have specific models. Of course I'm not sure what a Byzantine looking Zoo or Soccer (Football) Stadium would look like.

I agree. I think we were talking specifically about unique districts though.

Rock-Hewn Church is by far the best looking unique infrastructure in NFP so far. It's up there with the Polder and Pairidaeza for the top 3 best looking improvements, in my opinion.

One thing I'll personally always prefer in Civ V over Civ VI is the Leader animations. Each Leader was surrounded by architecture and/or landscapes that were ubiquitous to their respective civilizations, from Kamehameha's Hawaii (Polynesia), to Pachacuti's throne room high in the Andes, to Montezuma at his sacrificial altar (those eyes get me every time, lol!). The environments themselves had personality and reflected genuine effort. By contrast, the stark black backdrops with static backgrounds in Civ VI feel cold, lifeless, and even a bit depressing to look at. The Leader animations themselves may be very good for the most part, but they too are a mixed bag with many Leaders looking like exaggerated caricatures as opposed to real people.

Sorry to go off topic there, but I thought I'd chime in given the recent posts regarding the Leader animations.

Now, ON topic, are we supposed to get a new Reveal tomorrow, hopefully?
