This isn't funny anymore.

I'm actually scared of where all this is going. I'm a devout atheist and I don't know what else to say but Godspeed to us all. He only knows what trip Trump is going to take us all on.

The man has command over a nuclear arsenal and is demonstrably mad, on multiple levels.

They misspelled ‘a lot’ as ‘alot’ in that Twitter thread, so don't worry.

i don't know what else to say

Watching him ranting earlier today like a madman in front of a room of applauding sheriffs was surreal, even for The Trump Show.

Though Mattis has denied the fifth grader remarks

I'm going to f---ing send you to Afghanistan': Jim Mattis reportedly lashed out at Sean Spicer when he kept asking him to go on television

“Sean,” Mattis said, according to the excerpt of the book, “Fear,” tweeted by the AP’s Zeke Miller. “I’ve killed people for a living. If you call me again, I’m going to f—ing send you to Afghanistan. Are we clear?”

Mattis privately criticised Trump for having the understanding of “a fifth- or sixth-grader” after a particularly trying meeting

The Post reported that the book also says Mattis had to rein in Trump after a phone call in which the president ranted about wanting to “f—ing kill” Syrian President Bashar Assad.

In response to Woodward’s reporting, Mattis issued a statement Tuesday condemning the book as a “uniquely Washington brand” of “fiction.”

“The contemptuous words about the President attributed to me in Woodward’s book were never uttered by me or in my presence,” Mattis said. “While I generally enjoy reading fiction, this is a uniquely Washington brand of literature, and his anonymous sources do not lend credibility.”

Ha-ha! Pedo-Moore got burned!
BBC said:
Roy Moore sues Sacha Baron Cohen for defamation over TV stunt
Former US Senate candidate Roy Moore is suing the British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen for defamation after falling victim to a TV show prank.

In a sketch for his series Who Is America?, Baron Cohen pretends to be an Israeli anti-terrorism expert demonstrating a "paedophile detector".

When the "device" is waved near Mr Moore, it beeps.

In last year's Senate campaign, Mr Moore was dogged by allegations of sexual misconduct, which he denies.

His lawyers say the satirist falsely accused their client of being a sex offender. They are seeking $95m (£73m) in damages from Baron Cohen and from the Showtime and CBS networks.
.....
The complaint says Mr Moore, his wife and their whole family suffered "severe emotional distress and pain... especially given his status as a prominent conservative and God fearing person of faith".

Trump

Only a popularist believes that

The man lies constantly and obviously. There are several explanations, but "he's a pathological liar" is about the kindest one I can think of.

Yeah that specific clip is what sent a shiver down my spine. That and the TREASON? and 'they must turn over their sources as a matter of National Security' tweets. The latter in particular read exactly like something a dictator would say before the great purge begins.

More than one explanation can apply. He is a pathological liar, no doubt, but he also lies for instrumental reasons and probably just for the hell of it as well.

I'm worried, too, a little, but if the Anonymous Source is to be believed, he doesn't have anyone around him to carry out the purge when he orders it.

Which are completely non-pathological things to do.

Just for the hell of it, I'll give you. That's actually, now that I think about it, kind of the definition of pathological lying. But instrumental lies are more or less the opposite of pathological.
"Pathological lying" is not when you have some other pathology, e.g. antisocial personality disorder (which Trump probably could be diagnosed with) which leads you to lie, it's more like when you lie simply for the sake of lying.

You know, now I think on it, I actually can't think of an example of a Trump lie that seemed just for the hell of it. All the ones I can think of were pretty clearly instrumental, directed toward some goal. I might have to take back the pathological liar thing.

Meh. The Anonymous Source just works in the White House. There's little doubt that ICE at the very least is chock-full of people who would carry out the purge order. The real obstacle here is that Trump hasn't destroyed the political independence of the intelligence services. If he succeeds in doing that it won't matter how many White House employees are trying to thwart him - he'll be able to find them and get rid of them.

There's a lot of times when the choice to lie is made just for the sake of lying. Although, yes, I'll grant that he lies for pathological reasons but might not necessarily qualify as a pathological liar.

I'll just note that I couldn't think of any examples of this off the top of my head. That doesn't necessarily signify, of course, since there are so many lies that it seems impossible for one person to remember them all, but anyway....

Pathological lying is not an agreed upon ((¿)source: @bernie14 (?)) term but the general breakdown is that if it's for a cause it's not pathological. If it's just cause it is. An individual's lying habits need not be either or.
