Former US Senate candidate Roy Moore is suing the British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen for defamation after falling victim to a TV show prank.

In a sketch for his series Who Is America?, Baron Cohen pretends to be an Israeli anti-terrorism expert demonstrating a "paedophile detector".

When the "device" is waved near Mr Moore, it beeps.

In last year's Senate campaign, Mr Moore was dogged by allegations of sexual misconduct, which he denies.

His lawyers say the satirist falsely accused their client of being a sex offender. They are seeking $95m (£73m) in damages from Baron Cohen and from the Showtime and CBS networks.

Yeah that specific clip is what sent a shiver down my spine. That and the TREASON? and 'they must turn over their sources as a matter of National Security' tweets. The latter in particular read exactly like something a dictator would say before the great purge begins.

"Pathological lying" is not when you have some other pathology, e.g. antisocial personality disorder (which Trump probably could be diagnosed with) which leads you to lie, it's more like when you lie simply for the sake of lying.

You know, now I think on it, I actually can't think of an example of a Trump lie that seemed just for the hell of it. All the ones I can think of were pretty clearly instrumental, directed toward some goal. I might have to take back the pathological liar thing.

Meh. The Anonymous Source just works in the White House. There's little doubt that ICE at the very least is chock-full of people who would carry out the purge order. The real obstacle here is that Trump hasn't destroyed the political independence of the intelligence services. If he succeeds in doing that it won't matter how many White House employees are trying to thwart him - he'll be able to find them and get rid of them.
