Colbert distasteful joke

Apparently it is still a resource for civ6, though. It may attract damning attention ^^
I only I had tried to figure out what that button does on one of the more interesting threads. :(

Anyway, to get the topic back on track:

From what I've seen, neither the left, nor the right seems to be able to get to a conclusive decision of whether the joke "was homophobic or not". That's truly interesting, it's like the combination of it being anti-Trump and somewhat edgy has exactly hit that tiny spot of overlap between both sides.

In this case, we have to consider the butt of the joke.

I would like to think that Colbert thought it through, and empathised deeply with Trump's outlook.
Regardless of how innocuous an activity it is to the liberal elite, nevertheless a Neanderthal would consider it deeply insulting.

If Trump found the idea personally offensive, then it was worth it.

This is the key point. What matters in an insult is how the target thinks. Not how society at large weighs the chosen words, but how those words land on the target.

Did Trump tweek about it? :D

Colbert made a very distasteful joke during a monologue about president trump saying the only thing his mouth is good for is as putin's [euphemism for male genitalia] holder.

A lot of people are calling the joke homophobic and an insult to minority groups. Which it is, since it's clearly meant to portray a homosexual act as derogatory.

So I'm pretty shocked the cbs networks hasn't done something to him, maybe not fired but at least suspended or put out some sort of statement and forced him to make an apology.

Not matter what your view on the president is, this is extremely distasteful and an insult to the office. You would never see anyone dare say this about obama or even bush. Hollywood just thinks cus it's trump it's open season and it's wrong. People shouldn't talk about anyone this way but much less the president.

And now I will prep myself for all your responses on how hypocritical it is since trump has said nasty things and brought this on himself and how you will all use that to justify your position, ie hate breeds hate. I am not a trump supporter, I think he has said some terrible things and is not going to make a good president policy wise either. But that doesn't excuse this kind of behavior and we need to rise above it. I mean it's the president's office for goodness sake, you aren't winning back any supporters with these kind of jokes, and this kind of hollywood elitist attitude that excuses this behavior as acceptable is part of why trump won, because people are so angry at the left.

It is exactly the kind of behaviour, the American government have been sponsoring and teaching the opposition in the ex-Soviet countries and probably other places of the world.

E.g., instead of real complaints or constructive ideas, we have constant garbage stream of that kind in the media, stupid personal remarks, stupid street provocations, the so called opposition, liberals, democratic crowd have these stupid infantile slogans based on things like calling prezident "prezik" (which is a slang word for condom in Russian), "stop feeding the Caucasus" (the target audience is neo-Nazi degenerate teens and sympathizers), calling Dmitry Medvedev "Dimon" (which sounds infantile and extremely informal, like "Hey, Trumpie, wussup?). Memes and hatred. Constant focus on the negative, ugly side of life in Russia, making it up ugly and inventing ugly images, when they run out of the real things. Strong inclination towards emotions, personal traits (invented or irrelevant), specific political figures; to evade from facts, logic, objectivity, etc.

What you have in Ukraine today, this regime you call democratic compared to the previous one (lol), came exactly from that kind of things in the extreme. People were incited by stupid slogans like "gang away" or "Muscovites to gibbets". And that hatred and obsession with Putin there was incited by things like "ПТН ПНХ" (which means Putin go f*ck off, written in a pseudo-crypted way) a meme more appropriate for schoolers, ultras, neo-Nazi hooligans, but used even by the members of the post-Maidan parliament.

Somewhere in the 80's someone good invented a word for that: demshciza (democratic schizophrenia).

So, some of us here, have a lot of fun, watching how the United States, after its elite divided, is using its own weapon (or idiotic tool) on itself, merging into sudden idiocracy, turning into a society ran by a joke. Now you there have the same kind of political schizophrenia and informational garbage turned against your own country, we've been suffering here mostly because of you, for decades. I can't even remember when we didn't, I was born to it. It is as old as Voice of America propagandish radiostation or giving Nobel prizes for anti-Russian rhetorics or actions.

And it is even more fun, because of that hysteria about Russian hackers and Russian influence on the American inner politics. Absolutely no self-reflection there. Sheeps with TV. Tweet me, plz.

I could defecate into the torn-open carcass of a beloved family pet and I'd still be a better person than Trump.

or you might be making a pointed allegory about the birth of communism, if of course, you killed the pet in question...
