COM2 - n00bile deities

Okay, looks like you guys wanted to be sure I had some fun, seeing how we're on Diety and at war with half the world.
Hmmm, we can trade Inca horses, but they will only give us 17gpt for them. Still, we have 17 turns left on another goods trade and they are the only ones in the world without horses, so I figure the extra money will be worth it.
Final deal is we give Inca Horses + 1g while they give us 18gpt.

Although I really would like to strike two places at once, driving back two foes, I'm going to move the caravels to Mongolia. Better to do this safe and sure. Might even take out a couple of the Greek islands to the south if we can help it.

Went around to see if anything needed a little bit of Micro, but Niko has left the cities in nice shape, really.

IBT we lose a pike to a Keshik

1) 1060AD
Our armies kill a couple muskets in Ta-Tu.

IBT we lose a knight to a keshik

2) 1070AD
Oil Springs hits the 10spt mark. Kill a longbow and promote a knight. Kill two more muskets in Ta-Tu and the city is ours!
Rush a harbor in Centralia.

3) 1080AD
War weariness seems to go up just the slightest amount. Re-arrange some specialists, but no slider work needed.
Upgrade our fleet of Caravels to Galleons. Our armies march towards Ulaanbaatar.
We can trade Aztecs incense. I may wait for the war with Mongolia to be over with first and our port secure.

IBT Kawuka riots. I guess I missed one.
Koreans are building Universal Suffrage.

4) 1090AD
Renegotiate our luxury deal to Aztecs and pull an extra gpt out of it. They are still Gracious.

5) 1100AD
I was going to wait for the other army to come up, but our trebs did so well I attack. No losses and we take Ulaanbaatar!

IBT -- Spot some Greek Ironclads. Also, the Greeks have a galleon right outside the Mongol island. Hope whatever it is isn't too big.

6) 1110AD
Settle Lake Oswego in the middle of the Mongolian island.

IBT -- Greece drops off a longbow and a hoplite. Mongols drop off a longbow near our capital.
We discover Nationalism. :) We can get Steam in 7 turns at 60%, so I set it for that.

Dammit, Ta-Tu flips. Just a knight lost.

7) 1120AD
Mongol invasion repelled. Greek hoplite, however, is a bastard and refuses to die. Load up Centralia with every nearby troop.
Spend all our money upgrading 3 pikes to riflemen. Army knocks off two muskets in Tabriz.

Everyone is willing to talk.

IBT -- Greek longbow kills a knight in Centralia.
Mongols and Aztecs sign peace. Mongols want peace with me too, but whatever it is that Monte's :smoke:-ing he isnt' sharing with me.

8) 1130AD
Tatu is razed.
There is a settler on the way and I don't want to have the headache of another flip. They had their chance.
Boat over a rifleman and he finishes off the Longbow.

IBT -- Greeks and Aztecs sign a peace treaty. Well, probably because our treaty just expired.
Salamanca builds the Military Academy. Oh, this is rediculous. Now Ulaan flips. They just need to be burned, too, now.
Inca finish Shakespeare's in Vilcabamba. No cascade.

9) 1140AD
Greece will give a very minor discount on Steam, but it'll still cost us near 100gpt to get it. I think I'd rather continue researching it. Medicine's no better. So I tell him to fork 60g over and we'll call that good.
Greece, by the way, has infantry showing.

We lose a knight, but we capture Tabriz. I thought about razing it, but I'll have an army parked right outside in case it flips.
Trade Aztecs Silks for Incense + 24gpt.

10) 11150AD
Army attacks Ulaanbaatar and kills the spear, but there is one left. We got a knight nearby. He attacks, redlines, and wins!

Com2_1150AD_NoMoreMongols.jpg

Well, it took a little longer than we first envisioned, but the Mongols are no more!
I've left the rest as is for the next player and for our war department to mull over. We're still at war with Korea (who will give us a pittence for peace). I say take the trebs and a couple armies and get their towns nearest us. Most of the Galleons are in Kahnawake.

The settler should be able to found on Ta-Tu's ruins next turn. I had the workers road that tile to save us a turn in getting the town up. Basically, the settler should found S-SW of its current location.
I think I did a pretty decent job of MMing the cities. The Mongolian island probably could have better builds going than what I have, but I'll leave that for the smarter people than I.

[party] No more Mongols! [party]

Nice turns Pindicator. I would love to wreck the runaway Aztecs but they are gracious. Maybe after we deck the Koreans, then pillage the Incans with Aztec support. After steam we should probably turn off science and steal espionage and techs the rest of the way through. Thoughts?
Whomp-- on deck
Leha
Nikodemus
MjM--still mia...
pindicator-- Just played
Bede-- UP and at 'em

TGOM is in feast mode. Will play tomorrow, I hope.

Got it.

 for the horses and whiskey for the men. :goodjob: on the Golden Horde.

Buy Steam from Monte for 55g and we have coal (2 sources) Woot!! :bounce:

Then set research to Industrialization due in 7, timed to hit just as the treaty with Inca expires. When it does I'll turn off research and buy Industrialization from Pacha.

Then see no reason no to parley with Korea who will give up Industrialization for 547 under beaker cost (111gpt with a 13g rebate). Them I can sell him back some coal for 42gpt, some incense, some spices and some ivory for an additional 21gpt. So now the Koreans live in warm sweet smelling hovels and can build pianos and eat tasty food.

ANd by 1170 we are at war with the Inca again. They landed a bowman and a sword on the Mongol island in the face of two armies and didn't like our boot order. Oh well. Monte will take them on for 170g

The Inca/Aztec war ends in 1190....

com02_1190.jpg

And in 1230 another Inca fleet shows up in our waters.

com02_1230.jpg

And since they won't talk buy another alliance with the Aztecs, plus an RoP.

And of course Inca wants talk in 1240, well too bad.

No landings in 1250, but the Aztecs take advantage of the RoP to move a ton of troops through old England to the south.

Take Economics, 30g+7gpt from Korea for Espionage and start Sally on the Intelligence Agency.

Research is off and we are accumulating cash for some tech theft. We should be up for the first one about the time the Agency finishes in 9 turns.

Just noticed the Inca have a couple of one horse towns on a n island SW of Mongolia.Senidng a sall fleet down there with a couple of armies might make them see the light when the time comes.

I got it. Take the Incan islands and if no one objects I may try to pillage their economy. If the turns are taking too long I may take 5 now that we're in the IA.

OK I've just finished the intel agency and think we should discuss this a bit. There is a good possibility a war may start by trying to plant a spy or steal a tech so I want to make sure we're all on the same page.
1. The Greeks are democratic and the rest are fascists. I think it's harder to steal from democracies (or is it just propaganda?).
2. The Koreans look to be not only the weakest but the furthest away so they seem to be the one I should start on.
3. In the past when I placed a spy I waited to steal the next turn. I thought I read that it's best to do it this way.
4. I think Bede said that careful is the best value in a steal vs. safely. Should I steal carefully or safely?
5. I assume we want to beeline to RP. Correct?
Thoughts or comments before I finish off the last two turns? Lurker comments are welcome too.

Well no one posted so I'm going to go with my gut and put a spy in Korea then steal carefully next turn.

Pre-turn: Bede's imprint is in full force. Anything that can produce something red has a court or harbor being built and policemen are everywhere. I wake a couple galleons for the southerly Incan isle invasion. Hit enter.
IT The Incans drop off 3 cavs and a MI at Dalandzadgad. Aztec infantry appear from Pow Wow. We get some trees, statues and a side tower to the palace. Greeks start ToE.
1255 Rail. Our Cattawhomp knight redlines and takes 1 cav. Our Choybalsan knight is flawless and promotes vs. 2nd cav. Lose a MI to 3rd cav 2/4. 2nd MI redlines but takes Incan MI and our elite MW finishes the 2/4 cav. Have a bunch of "go to" orders execute. Not sure where to send all 4 settlers so I put two on boats for south Inca.

IT
1260 Railnet is almost complete end to end. Take a turn off the Intel Agency with MMing. Sally at 32 spt. Police get Allegheny factory down to 2.

IT Incans have 3 frigates and a galleon approach again. 3 Aztec frigates appear. Yeah! A little naval battle coming. We catch Monte trying to plant a spy. Why us?
1265 Help the Aztec frigates by knocking off a hp from each Incan Frigate.

IT Incans drop off a infantry and guerilla unit. Aztec infantry come to the rescue, lose 1 but kill both Incans. Incan galleon sunk but lose the other two Aztec frigates sink.
1270 Allegheny is at 33 spt.

IT The other Aztec frigate sinks.
1275 thru 1280 were quiet times railing and mm'ing.

1285 Drop off troops at Chuquiapo. Juli has already been taken by the Aztecs.

IT Aztecs increase their price for furs. We give 26gpt and incense vs. 1 gpt.
Incans finish ToE in Vitcos. And we get this message....

intelagency.JPG

1290 Turn off lux. Notice the Greeks are a democracy and everyone else believes in fascism. Decide to post here before moving on and take a break....OK here goes nothing. We can plant a spy for 102g in Korea and we succeed. Yeah! I try it again with the Incans and no dice. We will have to wait four turns before trying again. I wait to steal anything. Level Chuquiapo as our elite MI knocks out the 2/4 rifle.

IT A Korean infantry defends against a Incan guerilla. Incans start Hoovers. Oh boy.
1295 Grabs some maps. Not many are railed like us. :D Decide it's time for some theft. Going the careful route we steal Electricity. We really need RP....try a safe steal and...Bingo!! We get RP!! We have 2 sources of rubber at Sally and Kawauka. MM cities building factories with some CE's. Core is finished railing. Now I'll cherry pick some spots.

IT A bunch of Aztecs wake up around our eastern cities. Where the heck are they going? Our knight at South Inca is redlines but retreats from a 2/4 guerilla. Incans finish Univ. Sufferage. Oh boy...

1300 Both armies and some trebs are knocking on the door in South Inca. Here's a pic.

Incan_Isle.JPG

SUMMARY
We are fairly well railed around the core. Cash is running about 500gpt and we should be good to go again in 3 turns. I would suggest The Corporation to see if we can go down one of the splits in the tech path. Steel or refining. I didn't want to disrupt the Greeks and I'm not 100% but I thought it was more difficult to hit someone in democracy. We can try planting another in Inca in 1315 (or is it 1310?). We still have plenty of time left on our MA with the Aztecs against them so I would steal from them all day long. The other thing we can do is upgrade our rifles and trebs but I think this is secondary unless there's a threat which I didn't see any since the beginning of my turns. Remember any spies caught are subject to a declaration so let's make sure we're prepared for a war against anyone we steal from.

Nice thievery there, Whomp! Hitting RP was wonderful! Now we can make Infantry and Artillery and ... *drool*

For tech route, unless we think we have a shot at Hoover, I like what you said entirely.

How realistic / desireable is it to get some towns set up now that it looks like we've cleared the Inca from it?

Edit: On the Mongolian Island I notice we have our cities packed very tightly. What's the reasoning behind this? I'm not saying I disagree with what was done, I just would like to understand the strategy behind the move.

The western galleon near the AC has a settler ready to go in that area. If we take Chuito we can probably keep it.

On the Mongol island anything south of the choke is both green and pretty corrupt. With trails we should be able to get two or three tax guys per town down there. The north end is a little different because it has plains and is closer to the core towns.

It is all about the cash from here on in so we need to keep infrastructure outside the core to the barest minimum.

Just wanted to ask: do we want to switch to Communism?

I mean... it's time to decide how we want to win this one. If we want to kill everyone, it's best to switch to communism.

I'm not too knowledgeable about Communism, Leha. I know it is best for large empires, but I also know that there is a city point where your corruption goes downhill fast (and that the number is very large).

A few things on Communism.
1. I'm not sure we have enough big corrupt cities that would kick off enough uncorrupted shields or commerce to benefit us at this point.
2. We are running 0% lux now in republic so if we keep our win % high we should be ok.
3. I'm not sure we can handle the anarchy turns at this point until we are closer in techs.

Preturn

Allegheny can't grow past size 12, convert non-productive tiles into 2 taxmen.
Same in Cattaraugus..
In short I cycled cities planting specialists where it's possible.

Ok, press enter

IT

Deal with Aztecs (they give silks we give insence + 26 gpt) ends.
Renegotiate it but pay 22 gpt.

1305 AD (1)

Take Chuito
MMing cities for cash and production

1310 AD (2)

Lil Village is built
Try to plant Incan spy, fail.

1315 AD (3)

Carefully steal corporation from Korea - woot!
Kill incan rifle

1320 AD (4)

I'll risk to plant spy in Greece.
Voila - success.

1325 AD (5)

Damn, I've just improved tile wich isn't usable by no city.

1330 AD (6)

Carefully steal Refining from Greece.
Sell refining to Korea for Medicine 227 gold and WM.
We have 1 source of Oil.
Again fail to plant incan spy.

1335 AD (7)

I load some galleons with obsolete units and some workers to send them to incan island.

1340 AD (8)

IT

Trade embargo between Inca and Greece against us ends.

Renegotiate MA with Aztecs against Inca for only WM and 7 gpt

1345 AD (9)

Sell spices, ivory and incense to Greece for 46 gpt

It

Greece signs with Inca MA against us and declare war on us.
Two greek cavs attack Ganogeh but our rifle holds there.

1350 AD (10)

Sign MA with Aztecs against Greece for 22 gpt.
Again fail to plant incan spy.
Again carefully steal technology from Greece - Steel.

I don't trade it to Korea so next player can decide what to do with it.

Although my log doesn't contain much information, I must say micromanaging takes a lot of time.

Oh, Communism is just perfect for our empire. It is stretched horrisontally and corruption kills us. I know it hurts to suffer several turns of anarchy, but beleve me it will pay off later. BTW timing is perfect, we can defend for awhile without additional troops and turning citizen into taxmen will still bring us cash.

Nice work Leha! We're at that heavy MMing point. I would say we should start playing 5 unless someone feels up for a full 10.

It looks from the minimap that the Incans have established a beachhead on the Aztec island. We may want to bring Korea into the conflict against Incans so they keep the Incans busy to their north while we attack from the south. If we brought them in versus the Greeks I'm afraid they'd focus on their own landmass instead of the Incans.

Do we have enough courts in the corrupt cities?

I checked some courthouses that were built.
IMO, it is much more effective to irrigate all the tiles, grow pop and set 3-4 engineers - result is much more impressive. The only problem - we can't build units that way.
