Computer Questions Not Worth Their Own Thread II

new dilemma: I am having MAJOR carpal tunnel syndrome on my left wrist. Can only type with right hand. I want to be a writer as a career. I have been writing hours a day for the past month, it has finally caught up to me. What is the best speech to text software I can buy? Must work with Windows 10 and Microsoft Word.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking is probably the best consumer software you can get.

Are vou sure? It seems to have bad reviews.

Nope. I'm lying to you for a laugh.

(Yes, I'm sure.)

Any dictation software is going to get bad reviews because people with accents expect the software to understand them. You can "train" the software to learn your accent if that's a worry you might have. For example, some atrophy in my vocal chords has made it nigh-impossible for me to properly pronounce the -ing suffix without stopping my speech and making a point of finishing the "g". If I were to use D-NS, I could train the software to write the words down with their full suffix without any stumbling or over-correction on the software's part.

I'd see a doctor about the carpal tunnel for a proper diagnosis, and then take major preventative steps.

Off the top of my head:

Make sure you have good posture at your PC:

Get an ergonomic keyboard: https://www.kinesis-ergo.com/shop/advantage2/

Consider alternating mousing hands.

Switch to either the Colemak or Dvorak keyboard layouts:

DNS was absolutely freaking terrible when I tried it in 2009-10. However speech recognition has a come a long way since then. Google Now is freaking amazing so if DNS should be of comparable quality if they are indeed a serious company.

I would expect all of MS/Google/Amazon/Apple to have better speech to text than any other company based on their machine learning resources, and volume of speech they have to work with. (Speech input is only useful for training the system if it's all uploaded.)

AFAIK none of them make standalone speech to text products though, so comparisons to DNS (or whoever else) aren't particularly relevant.

New problem (sorry for having so many):

I am trying to transfer from icloud (apple) to gmail. I have already made the gmail. I have already manually changed my various online accounts and subscriptions from my old icloud to the new gmail (this took forever). Now only one step left. I want to transfer all my old emails from the icloud to the new gmail. I also made a bunch of folders, neatly categorizing my emails. I want all those folders and all the emails within them copied as well. I looked online on how to do it and this is the best I could find. But the instructions are far more complex than what I can even understand. And surely there is an easier way?

Forgot login password of Windows 10 laptop? is there a way to reset the password without reinstallation? P.S Fine a simple way to do that with UUkeys Windows Password Mate. Thanks to Google.

Trying to upload pictures to linkedin and it keeps cropping them automatically. I cropped the pictures myself in photobucket to only get the necessary parts, then I shrinked the image down a lot, and it continues to crop it like I never even altered it.

I accidently deleted my bookmarks from google chrome. But they still exist in my chrome browser on my iPhone. How do I get it back on my computer?

I have a new install of Windows 7. I plug a network cable in and the light comes on. However windows reports No connections and clicking on Troubleshoot gives me the message "Windows did not detect a properly installed network adaptor. If you have a network adaptor, you will need to re-install the driver." Device manager just reports it as "Ethernet Controller, Manufacturer: Unknown".

It is an old dell, and entering the Service tag on their web site gives an executable. Running this fails with "The Realtek Ethernet Controller was not found."

Is there any way to get this working?

Track down motherboard drivers for your motherboard, assuming this is an on-board network adapter then that should have drivers for the network adapter included. You'd think, anyway. Your plan C could be buying a new network adapter and installing and using that

Thanks for this. I do not know what happened, I had a 3rd party wireless card that I wanted to install, but I thought it would be easier to get on line with the built in wired port first. So I downloaded the dell motherboard network driver, and the 3rd party card just started working! I will take it, even if I do not understand it.

I have two computers, both running Windows 10. Is there a way for me to select a song from Computer A and have it play on Computer B?

(I'd like to select music from my laptop but have it play from the desktop, which is connected to the A/V receiver)

Sounds like homesharing?

Spotify should allow that, it works between phone and desktop

If you RDP to desktop from laptop, for remote audio playback, you should be able to select "Play on remote computer".

Just a small question regarding GFX card. If it isn't easy to answer I will prolly make my own thread:

I need a new GFX card because my old one (nVidia GeForce GTS 250) does not support anything beyond DX10.

My PC is a very old prebuilt Packard Bell alled iPower i9650. The mainboard on this PC is a Gateway TBGM01.

So now my question is: Will this GFX card fit? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LHFRDVG

If not, can anyone recommend ma a GFX card that fits? Preferably a really cheap one? Beyond Civ and old games I don't play much, so it can be a <snip> one.
