Probably a massive scam, then :)

What makes you say that? Some of the Indian reservations do really well for themselves with gaming and resort establishments.
In NM the tribes not only pay well above any minimums, they also offer better benefits: excellent healthcare at low employee cost ($40/mo) or free; 401k with 5% match; 10 paid holidays, 3 weeks paid vacation. All after 90 days of employment.

Are they the kind of company that can just invest 1 billion dollars?
Cause Bill Gates did that recently, but it's Gates, so he is locally known.
Generally they are not that rich and they tend to invest in to build up permanent funds to support their tribe after gaming goes away. They invest in enterprises cautiously even if they make bad choices. In NM only one of the 13 gaming tribes has a billion dollars tucked away.

Afaik 1 billion is the total price of the project. But maybe their company only bid to build/develop the hotel+casino, which is 150 million.

That makes sense, but the Mohegans have bigger and richer casinos than the tribes in NM. The parent company has multiple properties and lots of money. They have enough assets to to finance $1 billion.

Hopefully they won't realize they only need enough money to pocket the politicians.
I think their bid won, btw. Although it still has some procedure to go through until it is signed, since this is national property and apparently leased (so it could, in theory, be cancelled).

May I leave this here? I like the style.

The picture was from 1993, so my post is an anachronism. Regardless of political stance, her delivery of "Pokemon-go-to-the-polls" and the line itself were just terrible. I know we're not electing the President of Zingers, but this one was just... it causes considerable stomach discomfort.
