CrezNES - Another Return to Our Roots

To:Wu Empire
From:Koryo

We accept trade, and you can have my daughter as a woman. Women here in Koryo have no right to inherit, nor do their spouses, I must warn you.

ORDERS:

-Spend 2 jack on a new Jugguh NOT
-Spend 1 jack on restoring the old Xenshin capitol.
-Expand north

-Start wonder:Koryo Trade Network (+2 economy)

My orders have been edited, they were lacking in some things.

EDIT: I've got other question that I just was reflecting on before, Crezth.
I'd like to change the name of my UU, as well as its description. They would essentially be the same thing as before, only that they would be the evolution, you could say, of the current UU (that is, it would work exactly the same as before, but their weapons are made of other material). Would it count as a different UU or not? It's just that I don't want to disband my Guerrilleros by accident.

5-hour warning for orders. If you haven't sent orders yet, well, you should send them.

Orders-
Spoiler :
Build 5 Armies and send them north to push back the Quebecois invaders and take the fight to their territory.
Use 3 gold to start improving our economy.

Also, I had an idea for a new Unique Unit: Massachusetts Centurions: Heavy infantry, with extensive training and state-of-the art weapons and armor. Centurions are trained to fight in square formations, with large square shields to protect themselves, along with swords and small spears for attack.

Greetings brothers and sisters, fellow children of the river. We the Amazonians are pleased to see so much activity in the great river basin, and hope this activity remains for centuries. We would like to extend an offer of good faith to you, from brother to brother, of trade and friendship. We would be willing to trade goods obtained from our sea territory in exchange for goods only found deeper in the jungles. Also, an alliance between us will solidify the region from unwanted influences, and help us both prosper. Do you agree to this?

Can I get an answer?

Provinces of the Floridian Empire c. 1600 F.Y.

The growth of the empire and the expansion from sea to shining sea forced a dramatic reform of the government of the empire. Though the cities retained their status, they were given greater control over the surrounding country side, allowing them to produce their own food and resources from other villages. Therefore, focused around the Ducs’ cities, new provinces were established and new Ducal positions were also created to manage the new lands. New cities were established by the Ducs to administer their holdings, and they would quickly become key to Floridian development and trade.

We were not asking about you joining us. We were asking if you were interested in trade and alliance. If you feel that said alliance is too much, then that is fine...but how about the trade?

I've got a couple of questions, Crezth:
1: The "lessens chance of culture flip" of my Temple of Gaia means that the other nations would have a harder time to culture flip me, no?
2: Why do my stats keep saying Stone Age when it should be Bronze Age?
3: How exactly does the culture flip work?

EDIT: I've got other question that I just was reflecting on before, Crezth.

I'd like to have an answer for my questions, Crezth. I'm not impatient, it's just that I think that you must have read the message before I included the questions and thus you might not have known that they were there.

We don't trust you enough to trade or to ally.

@milarqui: Sorry, I meant to, but became carried away.

1. You are correct.
2. Because I made a mistake. I'll fix it this update.
3. Sometimes a nation with greater culture can flip the land of a neighboring country. This can be done randomly or intentionally by the greater-culture-country.

And with regards to the UUs, I am thinking on removing the obsolescence dates entirely from UUs in general. So if you wanted to change it's name/description without altering its function, that is acceptable.

Yay! I can change my UU name!

UU: Guerrilleros Broncíneos (or Gebés for short): an updated version of the ancient Guerrilleros, these soldiers have survived, trained and lived in the most inhospitable lands (OOC: meaning North Africa and the Sierra Nevada mountain range), learning to make the most of the worst situations, and their training would surely put the normal army soldiers into shame. This elite corps, armed with a bronze axe-knife and a short bow, can launch surprise attacks and ambush enemy armies and supply trains with an incredibly high rate of success, rarely failing. However, their training didn't reach the normal combat experience, and thus are only average in a frontal attack against a prepared enemy. 1 gold per unit.

UUs: Jaguar Warriors: Jungle warriors, expert in guerrilla warfare, always fighting camouflaged. They are armed with a bow and a broad-tipped spear. Stone. 1 gold per.

Spoiler :

Spending
- Spend 1 Gold on upgrading 1 Stone Army to a Jaguar Warrior.
- Spend 1 Gold on 1 Stone Army.
- Spend 1 Gold on clearing small groups of trees in select areas so the land can be used for growing crops (Economic Investment).

Military/Expansion
- Disband Jaguar Warriors, creating a Stone Army out of them.
- Create a new UU, the Jaguar Warriors. They are exactly the same, armed and fighting as described in the story...except these will be given more training. They will cost 2 Gold rather than 1.
- 1 Stone Navy will sail down the southern branch of the Amazon (the part where no barbarians are) and take gain the support of all the tribes there. Any one who declines the offer, will be fought, and forcibly added to the Empire.
- The Jaguar Warriors will take the coastal territory up to the Orinoco River. They should do well if they encounter any hostile entities, since the area consists of dense jungles.
- 1 Stone Army will take territory east of the homeland, along the coast.
- Annex the territory obtained by the expansion last turn, making it officially part of the Empire.

This is more than agreeable. Trade will begin to flow.

The Cadredec Dynasty- Part 2- The Reign of Shalmasere II (Traditions Born)

ii- The Reform Act:
At this point, a significant numbers of contradictory legal fictions and formalities existed within the state. Parliament continued to proclaim itself soveriegn, as did Shalmasere. Parliament, although united against the President, also had internal quasi-factions based on the Three Regions. (Bradios was in theory a federation of three regions but not in practice- there were therefore, in theory, three Parliaments. How this fitted into the new Jasiran was not clear, but the Three Parliaments continued to claim representation based on Bradios regions)

Each of these Parliaments theoretically had a Chief of Parliament (a concession made in early Bradios), who made an oath of allegiance to respect their Parliament's decisions but who also was theoretically soverign of it. The Speaker of Parliament (as a whole) claimed soveriegnity over the Chiefs, but they disagreed. The Speaker, like the President, did not formally exist, but in practice protocal dictated that he adressed as "Mr Speaker".

Finally, thanks to a civil war in Bradios theoretically everybody should have been sentenced to either death or exile- and certainly banned from office. This applied in practice to all office-holders except the President, but was ignored as a matter of course. (Parliament as a whole was, in theory, pure).

Wanting to eliminate the impractical mess, and at the same time extend his influence over Parliament, Shalmasere proposed the Reform Treaty to Parliament- which, as it was laid out like a formal treaty between soveriegn states, created another self-contradictory legal fiction. It was therefore renamed the Reform Act. (the legal status of an Act at this point being unclear)

Under the Reform Act/Treaty, theoretical soveriegnity would reside in Parliament, and the President would have to make an oath of allegiance to them, but the President would, as Chairman of Parliament (an invented role), have right of veto and to govern on Parliament's behalf (giving him all real power)- as well as, crucially, to veto Parliamentary statements. The Three Regions legal fiction would be abolished, as would all the others one. The President (though this title would no longer formally exist) and Chairman of Parliament would lead Parliament as Speaker.

Parliament did not want to accept the treaty, as they were (correctly) sure it was designed to give Shalmasere real power. They also remembered the (broken) promise that more power would reside in Parliament. Their response was to appeal both to the people and to East Jasiran to invade and depose the "rebel" (they refused to call him President, as this would acknowledge his legitimacy).

Whilst the people around the capital did indeed rebel, Shalmasere was able to supress them in two days (he called it the Third Parliamentary Revolt, but a tradition of calling it the Shalmaserite Rebellion continued in the countryside for almost a century). The result was he was able to force the Reform Act on Parliament unaltered- creating a tradition that would last for the rest of Jasiran history.

iii- The Standing Army:
West and East Jasiran (both by now proclaimed rebels by Parliament, which was acting as Shalmasere's puppet on foriegn affairs) had come to establish "natural borders". Both were fully aware that it was hard enough to control such nomadic empires and have real control over them, and were willing to accept each other's existence.

The problem was that they were not willing to accept Shalmasere's. He had repeatedly made references to them not as soveriegn states but as rebels. All three powers did that, but he had refused the prospect of even temporary alliances with either, and had their messangers executed for being rebels. Idle talk of a coalition to "reclaim the North" had been going on for months, but it was beginning to turn into something more serious.

Prior to this period, all three Jasiran states had used a system of levies. The tribal chieftan and/or Governor would call up miltia through whatever instruments of administration were normally used, and selected males would be conscripted into a temporary army. They would then go back to their homes after the war.

Shalmasere did not invent the idea, but heard of the tribe of "Queensland", to the east. The Queenslanders did not disband their miltia in times of peace, but perpetually trained for war. They had to- they were up against a coalition of five tribes in their local area, and were lucky to have survived as long as they did. Two of his advisors, Deuxex and Machinus, advised that he could greatly increase his fighting effectiveness by doing the same.

Shalmasere concluded it was impractical to do such, but liked the idea of some sort of standing army. The result was that Deuxex became Grand General of the first standing army of a Jasiran state- controlled by Shalmasere-appointed bodyguards, to be sure, but still General.

This was not actually needed at the time- West Jasiran had gotten the worse of the fighting, and the ruler of East Jasiran was psycologically burned down. But the permanent Army was not disbanded- and would remain a permanent institution in Jasiran...
