If there was true German mercy nobody would doubt the Spaniards capabilities to pay back, at least not until Germany's own credibility is put to question.

The difference is that US debt is denominated in a currency that works in a monetary zone with stable political underpinnings and a sufficiently strong federation. It's not more trust in the US economy that creates the lower US interest rates, it's more trust in its political system.

I thought the US had a useless and dysfunctional political system?

Only when it serves their purpose.

Apparently it is now a pillar of strength in a world filled with turmoil due to the European continent's inability to balance a check book.

Afaik a US state can go bankrupt without the dollar collapsing. Afaik the federal government would do everything in its power to prevent the dollar from collapsing.

The last years have proven that this cannot be said about the Eurozone.

The US political system is politically divided, but not regionally divided - Europe is regionally divided, and at times where regional solidarity is necessary, that's a problem.

(Also, apparently you take my posts as an attempt to prove that we're "better than you" or something like that. They're not, quite to the contrary. I'm saying that we have a political problem, not a "not enough GDP" problem).

This thread got kinda dumb.

Europe as a whole has a lower public debt to GDP ratio and a vastly lower combined budget deficit as a % of GDP than the USA.

Let's talk planes!!!!

Airbus-boeing_combinedcomparison_2010.png

Kinda misleading since it doesn't say anything about the size of the planes. But perhaps it averages out.

Orders 2011: 1419 for airbus and 805 for Boeing. Airbus really crushed Boeing last year in other words. Offering the A320neo was a good decision.

Meaning I'd really appreciate if you (all) posted more graphs :)
As you wish.

Larger image on the article, if it's too difficult to read.

"Figure 5. Map of science derived from clickstream data.

Circles represent individual journals. The lines that connect journals are the [clickstreams (connections via user requests)]. Colors correspond to the AAT [(Getty Research Institute's Art and Architecture Thesaurus)] classification of the journal. Labels have been assigned to local clusters of journals that correspond to particular scientific disciplines."

Isn't it funny how it pleases every true European heart that one huge transnational company beats another? :D

This picture is pretty popular on catalan boards. It's poseted everytime someone posts a stupid and/or embarrassing comment:

And here's the translation I just made of it:

They're saying you've posted something that crosses the stupid line.

So Catalans don't really get humour, then?

I don't get it.

What SS-18 ICBM said but anyway here's a good (and real) example of its usage.

I was once surfing the boards when a guy opened a thread called In which we explain our experiences with hookers. Then that guy explained in the OP his experience with a hooker. He basically told us that he was desperated for sex and that he found a 5€ hooker (and we already know what kind of hooker is a 5€ hooker, don't we?) and that he had sex with her... WITHOUT CONDOM. The first answer to his thread? This picture and a few mintues later a good ol' ban.

Well, now I suppose you know what kind of embarrassing and/or stupid posts get answered with this picture: posts so stupid and/or embarrassing that make you lose your dignity.

I don't get the x-axis nor the y-axis.

They don't represent anything. I think the guy who created it used the first graph he found.

So Catalans don't really get humour, then?

Or maybe it's Australians those who don't get it :dunno:

But it's still stupid.

Maybe you're right, but I have no doubt that if it was a meme everyone would have adopted it. Human psychology is that weird.

The irrelevant data on both x and y axis is just confusing.

And a guy making faces with a glass while another guy sings a song about a monster from the swamps that gets killed with a crop duster and sold to a zoo is quite confusing too. The internet is that weird.
