Dawn of Civilization - an RFC modmod by Leoreth

For Poland, you only have to have 4 cities. 1 Catholic cathedral, 1 Orthodox, 1 Protestant. This synergises well with your UP.

For Poland, you can have any of the Christian cathedrals (Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant), so that means you need only 4 cities.

IIRC the Moors need 3 cities in Iberia, 3 in the Maghreb, and 3 in west Africa.

The Moors have to have three cities in Spain, three in the Maghreb, and three in West-Africa.

Oh, I see. I figured it was restricted to cathedrals of your state religion, but I guess I was wrong. Poland was fairly fun, exempting my confusion.

And I guess it's not terrible that the Moors have to have 3 cities in West Africa, but I still think their stability map should be extended at least to modern Senegal, which was controlled by the Almohads.

Does anyone ever settle Patagonia? If so, where do you settle your city? Pics appreciated.

No. North America is so much better for both Spain and the Inca (and any other civilization). However, if I were to, it would look like this:

Your Buenos Aires is 1 tile too far south, it should be placed on the corn. For maximum coverage forget the southest city and move the Chile city 2S. Any city south of that is crap.

I know. That's why I say don't try to settle Patagonia. If he were to want to have a city in the area for other reasons, I would say settle the way in the picture, except for Buenos Aires on the corn. I think I missed.

I normally have Port Alegre so that tile for Buenos Aires gives no overlap.

Jusos, what's the benefit from moving the chile city 2s?

Also if you really want to settle Patagonia, pretty much pick a tile that covers the whale (the only tile that will generate a food surplus). It's going to improve the location from useless to crapulant.

Re: Buenos Aires. Normally any civ that can settle Buenos Aires can probably settle north america too, so on the corn is better. In the rare cases where you may not be able to expand beyond that, then settling 1 south is actually not so bad, as you will get full benefits from the corn.

Not if you're playing Inca, because they can use their UP to work the mountains.

Like I said, better coverage for the land.

Yes, it isn't bad, but you lose more than you gain.

Pretty sure you can; I've seen it founded by Ethiopia a number of times. I'm not sure of the exact rules, though.

So, what exactly are the rules for founding Orthodoxy? (E.g, can you found it as anyone other than Byzantium?)

Unless it's been changed, it's founded with the building of the Apostolic Palace, and the founder is chosen from a list of civs including: Greece, Byzantium, Russia, I believe Ethiopia, and I don't know any other ones.

I believe that you'll found it yourself, if any other civ doesn't have Catholicism. At least that has happened to me few times as China.

Orthodoxy requires Catholicism as a State Religion above the list. When the Apostolic Palace is built, it will be founded by a civilization on the list with Catholicism as a state religion, unless there is none, in which case it is founded by the builder of the Apostolic Palace.

List is something in the order of: Byzantium, Greece, Rome, Ethiopia, Russia, Egypt, Phoenicia, Western Europe. Persia might also be in there, and I might have Greece and Rome reversed.

Well, the easy way to be guaranteed to found it is to save a Great Engineer, and as soon as you Found Catholicism convert to it and build the Apostolic Palace with that Great Engineer. You will then be prompted as to whether or not you wish to go Orthodox, and there is no anarchy if you do. All your cities will choose what you do.

On a new note, as much as I like the cataphracts, I wonder if they're the best possible choice for the Byzantine unique unit. The strength of the Roman army was never in its cavalry, so it might make more sense to have a heavy infantry unit like the Varangian guard or a naval unit like the dromon.

There weren't enough Varangian guards to make a single unit in game and naval UUs are useless for the Byzantine UHV

Can someone help me? Okay, my problem is that this modmod... Is REALLY REALLY frustrating at getting to work properly!

Here's my issue, basically I am playing as (I play as small civilisations because I knew that a modmod could be problematic) Tibet and by 950 CE I have had to save the game and quit. However, on other games I have made it to at least... 1500 CE? Before the game crashed in error (I don't care about the error crashes, I just want the freezing to be fixed).

I just want to clarify, the problem I need solved is the freezing, NOT any of the missing Python error crashes, I always save my game every turn on the same file. (paranoid but hey, it has saved my ascot so many times.)

For example, I'm playing as Tibet right? (It's happened on others.) However, I move the screen slightly and it takes 5 seconds to load the next frame, which you can imagine is FRUSTRATING! Especially when I'm trying to keep an eye on my cities and Taizong's Xi'an and Chengdu and the Independent Pataliputra.

I'm guessing this problem was caused due to my graphics being set to 'High', so that went right down to 'Low', and this solved the problem... For another few centuries...

I don't get it, I simply don't! I would have thought it's because of the amount of civilisations, but I've had up to 36 before (without freezing like a Popsicle!) and this doesn't even come up to 10! I have tried numerous ways and they've helped slightly:

x Saving my game every turn.
x Setting my graphics to 'Low'.
x Staying zoomed-in and focused on to my region only.
x Trying to give away all of my stuff so the pesky AI doesn't contact me and force me to freeze in to oblivion.

I'm guessing this is because the modmod is really intense, not as intense as C2C (that only lasted for 2 seconds) but still intense, is this for 64 bit computers only? If so, I will have a huge lump in my throat, because this modmod is brilliant and I don't want it to be too advanced for this computer to handle :'[ (Like every mod there is... Or modmod...)

Oh, and a final question if you can, may I please inquire on where you all obtain your supercomputers?
