Dawn of Civilization - an RFC modmod by Leoreth

A wild idea of mine inspired by the "Airstrip One" Easter egg - could there be a future era projects like "NWO", that can be built in Americas (with South-Africa and British isles, you know) only and that immediately makes any civ following capitalism your vassal in the Americas and "Caliphate" that can be built only in Middle-East and that makes every Islamic state your vassal. Eurasia is a bit trickier - totalitarian project (Germany) or communist project (Russia)? Russia would feel great, thanks to it's UHV, but East-Asia would also feel great with communism (China).
Anyway - just some raw ideas for "one more turn" style gaming. What do you think?

^Comintern is actually adequately portrayed by the Russian UHV, as is totalitarianism for Germany.
As for projects that make all civs running a specific set of civics your vassals, I think that it's pretty broken, although, admittedly, at that stage of the game, it's sort of a moot point already.

Can I make a few suggestions for the 1700AD scenario?

Merv was destroyed by the mongols in the 13th century, and barely existed as more than ruins after that before being abandoned completely in the 19th century. The only major city in that area in the 1700AD scenario would be Bayramaly, or Bayram-Ali when the Persians take it.

The Qing did not like gunpowder, and neglected firearms to the point that only the rare regiment had firearms while the majority stuck to bows. I don't know how you can show this properly, since the AI will start making muskets and cannons. But the Qing having an entire army consisting of muskets and so on in the year 1700AD is off. This will make them militarily weak compared to Europe, which is realistic, since in the next century Europe tore them apart a few times during the Opium Wars when the Qing stuck to traditional non-firearm military tactics. The Qing actually used 'Manchu Bannerman' which were a lot like longbowman on horseback, and did wonders for controlling the general population and the barbarian hinterlands, but fell flat against European fire power. The Qing didn't even come close to start taking firearms seriously until after the Taipei rebellion, but by then it was too little too late.

My only suggestion is to replace the muskets with these Manchu Bannerman, but that might be a little too extreme a change for realism.

Wait for the Jurchens. I hope they can respawn as Qing (and let China to respawn after as Ming, then in 1900s)
They could start without Gunpowder, and Manchu Bannerman as their UU.
By the way, please rename Sukadana to Pontianak.

[wrong thread]

(I've read the comments about the 1700 AD and will do my best to incorporate them.)

I am thinking about starting a Game of the Week thread. There would be two games every week, one a Viceroy game where the only victory condition allowed is UHV, to help newer players and RFC players transition. Then, there would be a Monarch game with all victory conditions allowed. I will choose the civ and scenario, but besides that, it is completely up to the player. The player with the highest score would win the GOTW. I might also add in a twist every once in a while. Eventually, 3 or 4 times a year, there would be an invitational where all winners would be invited and everyone else would vote on the civ. All games will be the most recent full release (1.11 until 1.12 is fully released, basically no SVN). What do you guys think of this idea?

Great idea, full support from my side.

I think it's a nice idea, but why not use the SVN?

It changes too much. It will be too much of a pain to keep track of all of the revisions. Also, not everybody uses SVN, while pretty much everyone has 1.11 installed.

I think there are more people who would have to revert to revision 540 (1.11) every time to play the GOTW than there are people who wouldn't be able to participate because of SVN. You could always make the SVN revision at the first day of the GOTW obligatory.

Or the most stable one at the time of start. Not all of them are equally stable.

Ok, that makes sense. I'll make the most recent SVN revision of the day of the release the legal SVN for that week for Monarch. Most newer players don't use SVN, so I will keep that on 1.11 for Viceroy.

Honestly, I lost track whether Leo is now developing v1.12 or v1.13 but yeah, I like your idea!

I think you should create a savegames (of the civs you intended the people to play with, on the DoM screen before pressing OK) instead so that every player has to download and play that to win the UHV.

You could create more variety challenge with that too, for example:
- A game where you WB-ed the opponent with some stronger unit.
- A game (of late European civ) with an intentionally very bad city placement.
- A game, not at the start, but a few turns away wasted (to add more challenge)

Is there any way to track whether WB has been used? This is to keep the game fair.

What's the difference to normal 3000BC starts?

I guess one could turn on the Lock Modified Assets option.

has anybody here use Tapatalk? or is RSS Feed possible for CivFanatics?
Something whatever that can notify me when there's new post on a thread I'm subscribed to in CivFanatics will be nice, so I don't have to open DoC few times a day just to check whether there's a new post in the SVN thread. (Off course, excited to know whether there's any interesting update)

yeah, i read the site on tapa talk more often than not. i get notifications when im quoted but not for all new posts. (although you can follow a thread)

typically, i just pull up the forum and use the participated tab as ive posted in most of the threads im interested in at least once.

I downloaded all the modules and now I get a ton of XML errors on startup. They seem to be about units or promotions or civics, from what I could read.

The Varietas Delectat module is not compatible with the SVN version.
