Which is why Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru are all included. I'm sure every member of CFC can name one of the many Peruvians we've had a global impact and several presidents of Colombia. ;-)

Of course, our Benevolent Dictator is more than welcome to include or exclude anyone he wants to and happily he thinks carefully about it. But let's admit that's how the decisions are taken - game play, not historical significance!

Peru is just a respawn. All added civs can respawn in historically appropriate days. Normally Peru respawns only if Spain or the colonial power that controls it collapses.

Mexico is just a playable respawn. Aztecs will respawn sooner or later as Mexico, the only difference is that they are playable, so it doesn't count either.

Argentina and Colombia were added to simulate the spanish decolonisation and the decolonisation of Carrabean. Moreover, Argentina gave to the world literature, tango and an economic history. I would say that Colombia is tied to Simon Bolivar, the same way Mongolia is tied to Genkhis Khan. Colombia could in an alternative timeline form USSouthA and control Carrabean.

Leoreth, Tibet, Sri Lanka, and Colombia cannot be given independence; they have to be world-built in if you want to see them after their collapse.

A number of civs cannot be given independence after they've become "obsolete". Not sure how the ones mentioned are affected by this mechanic, I just might not have bothered to set their cut-off years correctly.

I don't think Colombia should be one of the obsolete civilizations.

It's probably affected by being a Maya respawn.

P.S. : the most elegant way I can think of for Canada is to make it an easter egg civ. Canada is not-playable, not-shown on civ list, and can only spawn if England or whoever control Canada “release” it via the giving independence mechanic. Isn’t Canada’s independence is peaceful, much less similar like this?

Technically, Canada should use the same “iLang”s like the Americans, so no new city name maps... then have no stability etc. Like a contactable, peaceful Seljuks.

Ah, the Canada Civ Idea comes again from the dead...

This is a long rant, by the way. I apologize if I offend anyone, in advance. I'm somewhat sleepy as it is.

Thing is, they are just like Peru. Or Australia. Or Chile. Or Israel. As the Mod goes that is.

It isn't that they are irrelevant. It's just that they aren't relevant enough as to be put into the game. And that's coming from a Peruvian.

Yeah, sure, I'd love to see and play as my homeland in DoC. All that it would take is revamping the Inca respawn. Just as they did with Aztecs/Mexico, or Maya/Colombia (which doesn't even make any sense, considering that there were never any Mayans in Colombia; Muiscas were).

Peru has had its moments, for sure. Pedro Paulet, the first military submarine to be built in South America (the idea going back to 1864, a few months before the Confederate HL Hunley), the Peruvian Bolivian Confederation, the War of the Pacific, the first country in South America to successfully deploy paratroopers in war, the Guano/Saltpeter/Rubber boom, the War against Terrorism... The list could go and on and on.

But, just like Canada, on the great scheme of things; it just keeps falling short. Hell, in order to make Peru interesting to play, one would have to mod Bolivia and Chile into the mod (as I once suggested). Maybe even Ecuador. If not it'd be just a "Kick Spaniards out, settle jungle, avoid being conquered, grow economically and technologically, make peace with everyone, rinse and repeat".

We already have quite a bunch of those in DoC. And those that exist are fine, in the way that they get to cover some ground without going way beyond what is required to make them playable.

Tibet, for example. They are relevant enough to warrant an appearance during their era. Then they just fade away. But no extra civs needed to be created just to make them work. They have an interesting gameplay, even if they are a one city civ.

Peru would need 3 or 4 civs to be playable. Israel would need those too as well. Chile too. Alas, no way.

But Canada and Australia? Gameplay with them would be summarized in what I said for Peru minus the fighting part (excluding Natives and the odd encounter with the US, in the case of Canada).

So, would I like to see those Civs around? Yeah. I'd love to play as Peru, or as Canada. Hell, I LOVE Canada. But for DoC purposes, they don't fit the bill. Which is a pity, but then again, it is impossible to add everyone in the Mod; no matter how important they were.

There is a reason why the Harappans and Celts were made redundant, after all. :/

Without wanting to come out too strong against Canada or anything, but I think civilizations like Harappa, Celts, Iroquois, Mound Builders etc. would be more interesting from the point of view of their playing experience.

I'm not sure I understand your question. The Thai don't spawn as Khmer.

I think he means stop Thai spawning while playing Khmers. If all the units still leave the capital right after founding it on turn one -- the infamous exploit can do the trick. Obviously Khmer capital must be a little away from its original spot...

Being stable or solid is sufficient.

The Ethiopian Dawn of Man text reads, "The Ethiopian highlands are exceptionally fertile..."

I find that very hard to believe:

Compared to the surrounding deserts, yeah.

Haha good point.

Hello!

Semi-long time player, first time poster here. First of all, love the mod :D It's the sole reason I'm still playing Civ4 over Civ5.
I haven't read through the entire thread, but is there a file where I can see what cities are scripted to spawn and when? Thanks!

I'm new to Dawn of Civilization (long-time player of Rhye's main mod, though). I was wondering if there were any resources like the old Rhye's Atlas for this mod-mod. Are the spawn zones for civs from the original mod the same, or were they changed due to the new civilizations being added?

I'm specifically playing Rome, and would like to find out if France and Spain will still take away all my precious cities once they start, but it'd be a useful resource when I get around to trying other civs.

Unfortunately, there is not a DoC atlas that I know of (otherwise modding would be much easier), but for Rome, the spawn zones are quite similar. One thing to note- there is now a Moorish civilization that starts in southern Spain and Morocco that flips all cities up to and including Carthage in North Africa, so be careful there. However, it also fights Spain and weakens both, so it's a blessing in disguise in that way. I don't think any other flips related to Rome have changed, except there are now the Byzantines. However, if you have stability higher than 20 (I think) it doesn't spawn.

Good luck on your game!

Welcome to the mod and the forum!

Many civs' spawns have been adjusted to accomodate new ones or to help them along. Unfortunately no updated atlas exists so far, mainly because it wouldn't be worth the effort when things can still change. Otherwise mrrandomplayer is quite right about the Roman situation.
