Dawn of Civilization - an RFC modmod by Leoreth

On Vikings founding on the Hamburg tile: I have already decreased their settler value there in my current development version, hopefully that will lead to them preferring Copenhagen.

On Kiev: it's odd that Russia completely ignores it. I'll try some changes to AIWars first, but making it Barbarian instead is also a possibility.

Germany founding Essen somewhere in Albania/Dalmatia is annoying, at least to me. Could you add city name here?
Maybe it's not very important, but the Dawn of Man text sometimes doesn't show up. It isn't introduced in this version, the problem has been present for long time.

Germany's new capital tile makes them expand too much to the south anyway for my tastes, maybe I limit their settler values there. But on which tile exactly do they found Essen?

Don't know what's wrong with the Dawn of Men screens, other than their texts I don't know what could've affected them.

What about a 2nd UHV like build the san marco basilica and the sistine chapel, it would be historical, would stop you from building an huge army and would be a little bit of a challenge.

1S of copper. You can see Essen in Albania almost as often as Heithabyr (about 90% of my games).

Sorry, the problem is also present in RFCEurope and vanilla RFC. So it isn't a problem with your mod.

This modmod is just for single player, won't work with mp and/or hotseat ?
It's only based on RFC (or RFC Epic/Marathon, more precisely), not on RFC MP, so it's without multiplayer features like the base mod. You can emulate a hotseat game with the cheat code, which allows you to switch between civs every time you like.

The Sistine Chapel is too luck based for a goal imo.

Looks like Essen = Durres (Durazzo). Will add it to my city names.

oooh! Whats this! I have the cheat code enabled, but how do I do that? How can I switch from one civ to another? Because I've been dying to try out your mod and SoI on hotseat! Thanks! :)

There was a suggestion earlier about when the Mongols meet the Arab/Persian/Russian mainland they would get a "horde" event which would give them a few extra keshiks, to help them conquer the middle east/Europe more often : I completely agree, and also with a similar event for Arabia when meeting Iberia. They would get a few camel archers and a galley or two to attack the Spanish.
Because right now it's practically impossible to beat the Arabian UHV, and the Mongol expansion isn't very historical.
On an other subject, did anyone complete the Italian UHV ? Because I just tried it again on viceroy, beelined to education via paper, and still got beaten by China. I didn't micromanage, so I got it in 1450. It's... upsetting to say the least. How am I supposed to win this ?

I never tried it, but read it here a few times. Iirc, you have to do the following:

1. Open _Civ4Config and set 'cheatmode' to chipotle.
2. Press ctrl+Z to switch to the next civ

Arabia was possible, but not for the AI. And it didn't feel natural for the player as well.

I never had any problems with Education. After checking the saves of my games, I've seen that five out of six times China was defeated by the Mongols. I'll lower their inclination to research Education in my next version.

I agree here. It's very hard to get a fleet and army ready in time to takeover Spain. I did it, once, but that was through sheer luck (didn't loose and camel archers to the Byzantine pikemen). The Mongols and Arabs getting conquerer events could really mix things up in a good way. At least, then we'd see a powerful Mongolia before the late game.

Nope, only the Greek core. In most cases controlling Athens will suffice.

I think more scripted events such as the Mongol and Arab conquerors-esque events should be made for the AI. However these events shouldn’t happen during every game because events such as city flips and scripted armies appearing all make the game much more deterministic.

For instance (just roughly thought out example):

In every game, for AI-controlled civs, there is 50% chance the civ will remain the same. The other 50% of time, one of three things may happen

Mongolia:
1) Larger starting army, don’t accept peace with China for first 30 turns. More aggressive (aka very likely to declare war and not likely at all to declare peace) towards Japan. Better economy.
2) Slightly smaller starting army. More aggressive towards Middle Eastern civs. Spawn army by south part of Caspian Sea. Higher stability.
3) Slightly smaller starting army. Very aggressive towards Eastern European civs. Spawn army by north part of Caspian Sea. Higher stability.

Arabia:
1) Slightly smaller starting army. More aggressive against Egypt, Ethiopia, Carthage and Spain. Spawn troops and galleys across North Africa and in Spain. Better stability.
2) Slightly smaller starting army. More aggressive towards Byzantines, Greeks and Romans. Spawn troops and galleys in Levant. Better research.
3) Slightly smaller starting army. More aggressive towards Persians and Indians. Spawn troops and galleys around Persian Gulf. Better economy.
The specific civs and benefits from this idea isn’t thought out, but I was just hoping some sort of randomization system can be in place so that civs won’t be expected to behave similarly in most games.

I'd rather leave Spain as it is. Why are you so keen on seeing France and Arabia fight over Iberia? There wasn't that much conflict between them, Tours and Charles Martell are repeatedly exaggerated in popular history these days.
I wasn't thinking that because I'd prefer France fighting Arabia. I'd prefer to see independents representing the Visigothic kingdom and both France (Franks) and Arabs (Ummayads, Berbers etc...) fight them rather than an actual Spanish playable civ. I also feel that it is easier to almost guarantee Spain a successful Reconquesta of their core area if they spawn after the Arab invasion event(such as your horde spawn idea).

Does anyone else experience the computer achieving the Mali UHV? I'm surprised that the computer strives for the UHV for once but admittedly, it gets annoying when they seem to win the game every time...The only way to prevent a Mali UHV is to destroy them which can be a bit of a chore. Anything less won't do. Maybe have a few more barbarians head towards Mali? On one hand, it may prevent a game over for the player but on the other, it can be tough for a Mali player.

I never tried it, but read it here a few times. Iirc, you have to do the following:

1. Open _Civ4Config and set 'cheatmode' to chipotle.
2. Press shift+alt+Q to enable the cheatmode.
3. Press shift/ctrl/alt+Q to switch to the next civ (not sure about the keys anymore, the Q may be wrong too ...)

It's Control-Z and you don't need the squat mode cheat on to use it.

Thanks, edited.

Hum... Does it means it's a civil war ?
