Discussion on Potential NES and IOT Forum Merger

I Terran Emperor agree to Nuka's proposal

I, the Emperor of Planet Nerglepop, think Nuka's so-called "constitution" is obviously nonsense; it doesn't include any definite changes except the merge, and I don't support that. The merge is a stupid idea regardless of whether it is accompanied by vague and insubstantiated promises of future comradeship and benevolent moderation.

I think once we agree to the merge, which is now apparently(?) in jeopardy due to the actions of a few individuals, everything else can be solved relatively easily. If you don't support the Merger, we have an entire new website to play on, with the most benevolent moderator rules possible. If that was the solution, we wouldn't be having this discussion in the first place. The Frontier can be for NES purists, and here can be the merger. As for mod benevolence, aside from the Amon affair, I have had zero issues with the mods.

I, North King, would like to note that Owen's concerns about the lack of detail, a serious lack of any "pros" for the merger in general, and pretty much all of the concerns of the people I've talked to have not been addressed. Seeing as the only way to get people to address them appears to be reiteration, I would like to reiterate these points. Thank you.

And who are you that I must bow so low?

And in case anybody wanted to know, I am STILL waiting for an answer to this:

I'm still waiting for somebody to give me a solid, actual argument for why this merger will improve things over what we have now. So far nobody's said anything other than vague "it will improve traffic" (unproven and how does it improve traffic over what we're already doing now; those NESers who want to join IOTs already do so and vice versa), "it will foster a better community" (again vague and how is it certain the opposite won't happen?), and "we'll attain a great blending" (whatever the hell that means).

Mostly the arguments for the merger would be that I think it would improve both the player and modbase for IOTs and Neses. Though I doubt Luckymoose is going to play in a Board Game Style IOT, there are quite a few of us not playing in one or the other simply because it's a few extra clicks away (myself included). I personally have joined a few IOTs that have seemed interesting, but it's another forum I need to check. Lazy? Sure. But realistic. Putting all of the games under one roof WILL increase traffic significantly. Once we get past that point and we're playing in games with one another I think our communities are going to mesh much better than they are right now.

My proposal is simple. The merger needs to happen, the details can come later. And again, if you are opposed to this, you have everything you are asking for on the Frontier.

You haven't established whether or not the merger "needs" to happen. You're ignoring Owen's point from earlier, where he mentioned one never agrees to something prior to details being worked out. You also invalidated your own point by pointing out that you play in games on both forums.

As I pointed out to EQ, if there was a game that interested me here I would be playing it. All of the games that currently interest me are not hosted here.

So what difference would it make if it was under a forum called NESIOT (or w/e) instead of just NES? We would have more people playing and making more games. And convenient to boot!

I am in a NES that is on both forums. Who are you to divide the community into isolated groups when we actively want to be one whole, united front?

And yet you have posted solely on the Frontier thread. And really? Because it seems that you are the person most sinking this merger from happening, where all of us can be united into one forum. I am trying to pull us away from your destructive posts and trying to get this merger back on track.

Stop acting as though the people opposing the merger are doing it out of malice. There is a such thing as two informed people disagreeing because they evaluate the situation differently.

I don't think anyone is doing this out of malice. We both have different evaluations of the system. I just think that alot of this can be solved with "I don't like CFC's merger, I'll just play on the Frontier", while those of us Nesers who have not left would like to see the forums merged.

Alternatively, we could do a trial period, as it seems that EQ and the other mods have said they're willing to move threads back to their respective forums

I'm not fighting the merger, but the way it is being done and the voice both communities have in how things will work after. If you actually read my posts you might know that.

Other than my support for Nuka's nice and simple constitution/rules/what ever I have pretty much not been talking here, cuz there is not much I think I can add.

BUUUT I think this is a good idea, a Trial period would be good to see how things go, give it a couple of months (or less if it gets out of hand) and then have another vote, one to keep the things the way they are and keep the forums merged, or to separate them again.

Disregarding the unquestionable validity of chat ramblings and the obviously totally-not-strawman-argument, what does one have to do with the other?

I wasn't personally there so maybe you can put forth an argument what the merger discussion has to do with banning a user, the class struggle, and domestic abuse.
