DMAW04 - A Testing War

No battles in my turnset ... kind of weird in an AW SG.

Build the academy as he is still insistent on learning Alphabet.

Adding one more spear, the stack moves off, leaving a minimal guards on the gems. Got to Kufah, decided not to take it but pillaged it.

If next player wants to, you can take it but I think the casualty will be huge. This is what you will face:

We learnt CoL, and I go for CS next.

In retrospect, I think it is a bit weedy. Now, I think Metal Casting might surve us better (forges add +2 happy for gems and gold, on top of the 25% production bonus and ability to run engineer specialist).

Beijing is now redfaced, suggest waiting two turns then whip it for 2 pops.

Sometime down the line, we should probably start a temple somewhere and run the priest to coax a prophet out of the game for shrine income.

Got it, will get here in the next day or so.

I also think Metal Casing would be better than Civil Service at this stage. On top of what GF said, Machinery is also a good early target for crossbows.

I think I'll take the Persian Pack travelling inlands to see what we can pillage.

Whip some courthouses and our economy will pick up.

Ahh, yes - Currency has nicely boosted our pitiful economy. I also like the idea of Metal Casting for a tech in the next turnset.

Also, how bad do we need the commerce from the gems tile? If we can live without it, a fort might be better. We'd lose the commerce, but keep the happiness. And it would make the tile a little easier to defend, considering its choke location.

Not sure we can afforfd to be without the coins at this stage. We could do it one tile closer to home (where the ruins are now and risk the gems being pillaged) or wait for a border expansion and build 2 next to the gems.

I thought the same thing when it was my turnset, but yes - we do need the gems for now. It's a pity the gems weren't where the ruins are, because it would be a great place for a fort.

Research is swapped to Metal Casing (Colossus would be a good wonder as well).

Barb city is razed easily.

Don't actually think razing Kufah would cost more than a cat or two (none is we get good monkey RNGod rolls) but see an easier target.

It doesn't last long and we lose no troops razing it.

Markets in Beijing and Perseplois are whipped for 3 pop. Courthouses are started over the empire.

As I move back towards Kufah, Sally suicides his forces against mine.

He has reinforced so decide to leave it and head for Bizzy.

I hope this is still the garrison next turn.

It is and with no losses...

Another GG spawns in capital. Ecbatana is our highest hammer city with no instructor, I'd say send him here.

Metal Casing in last turn. I put us back on Civil Service (we should at least for a turn to preserve the beakers) but I think Machinery might be a better choice.

I whip courthouses in Beijing and Aksum. Ecbatana and Aksum should be whipped soon (currently 3 pop). We can (and should) start some forges.

I moved the southern stack towards the Jewish Holy City of Medina.

Some healing while the cats do their work is in order. We have a few troops in the back field doind some pillaging.

A small stack has appeared back home. We should have a handle on it.

I was assembling another expeditionary force here.

I neglected fog busting (we actually had unexplored tiles north of Aksum). Have sent an Immortal to the last spot but have spawned a barb sword. I changed Susa from a spear to an axe (should whip when the sword gets close).

We need to decide a few things, what to research (Machinery or Civil Service or Other), what to do with GG (merge in Ecbatana), can we afford another city (a good production city would be good)?

Sally is the strongest AI,so we should concentrate on him. Would be good to find his ivory and pillage it, as War Elephants are the main threat we have here.

All in all, things are going well I think :goodjob:

Good turns. Poor Bismark, losing Munich must hurt :)

Machinery for crossbows, followed by engineering for trebuchets sounds good. Merge the GG. We will get many more before this is over.

With courthouses almost completed I think now should be a good time to get another settler out, and we have already identified a good production city site (the "better location?" mark west of Persepolis). With 4 mines and irrigated grass plains to feed the miners it will be a production monster, but of course it will take quite some time to prepare the tiles and grow the population.

This was the site I was thinking of too (had closed the save so couldn't remember where it was). The maintenance won't be too dramatic and it will reduce our army cost as well.

It won't actually take too long to preapre at all, as the workers are running out of things to do :mischief:.

Once Calendar is in, 1SE of Kufah would be good for a frontier city as well.

Very good turns, Ozbenno! Well done on capturing some more cities. I think building a city would be good, as long as we can offset the extra drain on our empire with the building of courthouses/markets - at the moment, we couldn't handle it, but if you say 3 courthouses are in production, that should be fine. I also like the idea of a Frontier City, but two cities will be too much for us at the moment - let's spread them over a couple of turnsets, instead of building both in the next one.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to skip this turnset, my optical drive isn't working now, and it won't validate the BtS (or Civ4) DVD :(. Must need cleaning, or replacing.

In that case, this is a got it.

I don't recall off the top of my head, but does Engineering require Machinery? Because if it doesn't, Engineering may be the better way to go, if nothing else for the better road movement.

Hey team, I'm getting a "version load error" when I try to load up the save. It says it wants a version 3.01 save. I assume that is a typo and it really wants 3.13, assuming this game has been upgraded.

Rumor has it that the patch has problems with a dual install. I'm still running a dual install because of the MTDG. Therefore I'm going to need to read up on this before I can patch. I'm sorry, but it looks like I'll need a skip this round.

Got it for tonight. Engineering or CS? I think we need both soon, but I need to look at the game to decide which one to get first.

Sorry, the Real Life interfers with my Civ time. I cannot play today so if anyone want to swap it is fine with me. Otherwise I will try and play tomorrow.

I'll swap with you yena. I'll play today. That'll give you another 3 days to play :)

Well, I tried to play today but something unexpected happened on the first turn.

I did some MM around bringing our -19 gpt down to -13 gpt and adding hammers in some cases.

Then hit enter.

IBT - Sally's Elephant attacked our mini stack of 2 pults, an axe, and a spear on the hill killing the spear.

And then this happened, and I can't continue.

This happened all 3 times I tried it. So I can't continue until I figure out what's wrong with it. I've uploaded my save. Next player can see if they can go further than me or not.

OK, I'm back and I will give it another try. Expect a report in a couple of hours.

I would, but guess I might as well wait for yena's save to try again now.
