DMAW04 - A Testing War

We just need a couple pikes in each stack I reckon and we have a couple floating around the place.

On the Great Merchant, it must have changed in BtS as I looked up the old chart and Alphabet wasn't even on the list

The GM would bulb Paper before Guilds as well. Really not sure what to do with him. We can't go for a trade mission and settling seems a waste, maybe Golden Age or leave him for the moment?

Got it for tomorrow night. Although, I might be able to squeeze it in tonight. We'll see. And I'm not using any "unofficial" patches, either. Hopefully it will work this time ...

This is just plain weird.
Undefended and a German name but Sally's city
This happened to me once. I set off a culture bomb trying to flip a city. Rather than flip it, it got liberated to me. I ended up with an undefended city like that. My guess is Bizmark liberated the city to Saladin.

I don't recall, but I was thinking we were running representation. That would mean settling him would be worth 6 gold and 3 beakers. Not bad, considering our current situation. Although with the new Golden Age rules in BTS, a GA would probably be a better use for him.

We are running representation. Still think that the 2 turns of Alphabet then bulb whatever might be better (or Golden Age). If we do settle, then Confused Holy City would be best.

If we research Alphabet, he will 'bulb Paper. If we finish Guilds first, it'll be Banking instead (regardless of Alphabet).

I really like the golden age idea. I'm thinking our research path should be Guilds -> Gunpowder. I wouldn't mind beelining Steel, either. But that would probably mean foregoing on Liberalism.

Hey team, I'm sorry about holding up the game. I thought I would have time to play this, but it doesn't look I'm going to be able to get to it until maybe Thursday. To get this game back on track, I'm going to skip this time around.

I suggest using the GM for a golden age. I was planning on doing a round of whipping on turn 0. Then kickoff the golden age on turn 1 and swap to Police State for the 25% production bonus. Use that to knock out as many trebs as possible during the 8 turn GA. On the last turn of the GA, we can switch back to Representation.

As Conroe suggested, I started a golden age with the GM, changed to Police State, and built as much troops as possible. It turned out to be needed, because two turns into my set I though the game was about to end badly when I saw 1 German and 2 (two!) massive Arabian stacks with elephants, cats, horse archers, axes, and swords approaching
aw12.jpg

The forts saved the day :goodjob: We lost some troops, but the kill ratio was about 10:1, and all enemy troops are dead. Our new trebs, maces and pikes are gathering in the gem fort, and in a few turns we should be able to send out a massive SoD to take some Arabian and German core cities.

There was a wounded stack outside Mecca which I moved home, pillaging Arabian iron and German bronze, and razing Anjar on the way. It is now in our territory but needs to heal.

We got Guilds, and changed to Horseback Riding. It will be done in the next turn, and then we should make some knights.

I really think that we need to build one big stack and go city razing, rather than dividing our forces into small pillaging parties that are too easily crushed in enemy territory.

This time I played without Bhruic's patch, and I hope there will be no problems with the save.

This means I'm up. I've got it then, I will try to play tonite if I can find time, otherwise it'll have to be Friday. So if someone wants to swap, please do.

I forgot, tonite is Halloween. I gotta take my daughter trick or treating, so I guess we'll swap and I'll play Friday.

A build up turnset. Noticed some whipping unhappiness ... we should really hold whip and let city grow, because once we move a big stack out, our troops maintenance upkeep would skyrocket.

For that, I got us Banking.

DMAW4-AD1550-banking.jpg

Hopefully, in 12 turns Susa would generate a great prophet. Then the shrine will be built and give us sufficient gold. The banks would help too, so try building them in some commerce heavy city.

Of-course we got HBR prior to Banking, and I started the stables in the northeast cities. These farthest-from-frontline city should concentrate on knights since knights move fastest, so they can get to frontline fast. The cities nearer to frontline should concentrate on cats/maces etc.

I selected Gunpowder as research next, but we can consider going for Poly > Monotheism or Theology so that we can make use of religious civics OR or Theocracy.

With Banking in, we can go Mercantilism too. I did not revolt, up to decision of team. I think we should ... although that would dillute the chances of a prophet in Susa, it brings more benefit than good, me think.

Last turn of my 10-turn set, I decided to move out and raze the nearby city.

They can heal a bit while waiting for more reinforcement to arrive.

I am also shifting the forces at the fort near the copper a few tiles to the west here:

DMAW4-AD1550-sit.jpg

To be successful, we should chop away the forest/jungles adjacent to the fort so that enemies cannot hide in them.

Some good turnsets, folks! :goodjob: I also like the idea of Gunpowder next. The muskets will free up some Macemen guarding our borders. We can pickup some of the skipped techs after that.

Nice turns, Fox.

I've got it for tomorrow then.

OK, I'm back.

Nice progress. Was wondering when a huge stack might appear, well dealt with yena. It seems in BtS that mounted units rather than melee are the choice of the AI. More pikes are probably needed.

Agree with GF that mercantilism should be adopted. I'd research Monotheism first (can't take long at this stage) and adopt OR as well.

Took a quick look through our cities. Persepolis would benefit from a lighthouse to generate more food from those clams, so I queued one up. I also queued up some stables in the back cities like Fox demanded ....ummmmm...... recommended.

Then, on the very first turn after hitting enter, I see this stack right at our door.

Civ4ScreenShot0000-10.jpg

So, I turned our stack back from the front line to help out with them. Which turns out wasn't such a bad idea since this happened the very next turn.

Civ4ScreenShot0001-9.jpg

I took out the 2 big front line stack loosing only 1 pult. The Egyptian stack of a horse and 2 spears suicided against our fortified stack, and the rest of them ran away.

Civ4ScreenShot0003-10.jpg

I left our stack there to heal for a couple of turns before starting to move out.

On the turn before last, I started our stack out ready to do some damage only to encounter these 2 stacks IBT. So I pulled our stack back once again.

Civ4ScreenShot0002-10.jpg

I didn't want to hit them when they have the +50% defensive bonus, so I'll lure them out into the open and let the next player finish them.

Here's the current situation at our front door.

No, I didn't revolt to Mercantilism. I decided to wait for the prophet before revolting, which should be in 2 turns. It's already diluted with only ~70% prophet, and I didn't want to dilute it any further.

OK, I've got it for tomorrow. Excellent turns guys!

To do:
1) Switch to Merc. ASAP after the prophet has been born, and establish our shrine with the prophet
2) Take out the stacks at our borders
3) Try and get back into enemy territory in full force
