DMI VII - Team Warlords

I didn't revolt to HR, as (1) we are in rep, which is what is powering our research right now; (2) rep gives +3 happy in the 5 largest city, which is where most of the unhappiness are, and (3) all our troops are at the front, if we really want HR, wait until we get peace.

I created a medic using a spear:

Having no horses, this is the best unit to be super medic. At my last turn, the super medic should be eligible for one more promotion, suggest the morale promo, fits a supermedic well.

But that is jumping the story ... before that, we see some demands from AIs:

I agree to HC, as (1) washy has a settler in our border, and (2) nobody likes washy except Izzy (which most probably is sharing his bed).

Then, I moved our troops and see Thebes 3 tiles away from Elephanite.

The city must be razed ... and I proceed to pillage all the cottages nearby while waiting for the army from Memphis to arrive. Finally, the last turn:

No more Elephanite. At least, this will stop me from mistyping the city's name ;)

Time to consider peace:

Suggest we take it, although I am not sure whether we can change Drama to something more useful, but the 220 gold will bring our coffer to 800 gold, more than enough for us to pump research back to 100% and get CS.

Great work there, Fox :goodjob:

Come to think of it, those galleys from earlier (Compromise's report) probably got some settlers to settle to our west. It's something that the AIs are still stupid enough to do in Warlords.

shyuhe is UP!!!

Nicely done Fox. It's time for peace. We could certainly use this time to bring our empire back to profitability. Hatty is probably crippled enough to no longer be a threat this game. I wish we'd been able to take Thebes, but it just wasn't to be.

What's our strategy now? Are there any other wars we want to start? Nothing obvious to me at first glance. Against longbows, we're going to want more than swords. The AIs probably aren't too far from crossbows and maces at this point.

I'd also like to look at what it would take to get a clean diplomatic victory. Is that possible from where we are now?

Shall we fill out the rest of our empire--I think there's at least one more city we want to settle--and concentrate on developing a cottage economy?

I can't post a got-it until tomorrow (finally back from break!). We're going to have a hard time winning the liberalism race given our current situation. I will try to turn out a GS or two to power through at least education. I don't think we want to fill out our empire just yet. Our economy is still in shambles so unless a rival is threatening a city spot, I don't think we should settle any more for the time being.

I will take the peace deal for drama unless some other better tech is possible.

I agree about not filling out our empire, however there is a barb city that we can take down South ... unless we've already taken it and I don't know about it.

In order for a diplo victory, we're going to need to pick a friend and get that religion spread thoroughly and get everyone else (except 1 or 2) to switch to the same religion.

A rules question just occurred to me. How do vassals count for purposes of the "true" diplo victory? Is your population only the pop shown in the F8 screen for the diplo vote or is it the number under the domination victory (which includes 50% of your vassal's pop).

If vassals don't count towards the true diplo threshold, the simple solution is to war Hatty later and vassalize her. Then vassalize one more civ and make one friendly civ.

I don't think vassal should be counted in because the Vanilla boys would cry "FOUL".

I think we should prepare for another war with Egypt. Our relations with Eygpt would be beyond repair at this stage. Might as well finish her off (she is the current tech leader), one less Civ to compete for lib. Once CS is in, we would have maces and that means we can finally take on the longbows at equal terms. If we really want, engineering would give us trebs, and they eat LBs for lunch. We are at warlords so siege is yet nerfed.

Yes, our economy is in shambles, but with the recent courthouses whips, we are in the position to get FP up, that will ease things a little. Plus I am sure Hatty has a shrine which we can use.

I had left the barb city with horses in the south alone. Let it be for a while , the barb will develop it a little for us I imagine.

We could consider HR + Bureau revolt once CS is in (we should really pump research to 100% and get it ASAP.). If that is the plan, better redeploy some troops in prep for HR.

Good news, guys ! We have a 5th player ! pigswill will join our ride. Welcome ! :)

That would make him our 6th player since shyuhe is back on the roster. Even better :goodjob:

Welcome, pigswill!!!

So our current roster looks something like this

1. ·Imhotep·
2. berserks01
3. Compromise
4. GreyFox >> Just played
5. shyuhe >> UP
6. pigswill >> on deck

Phew. Lots of stuff going on here. A little bit of ranting coming up too.

The results of 10 turns on our GNP:

We're not in the cellar any more

Inherited turn: I take the peace deal suggested by Fox. I look around and notice that we don't have OB with KK or Louis. Is this to keep our backyard open because uh... they're settling from the west anyways so closing borders isn't going to stop the AI. So I open borders with KK and Louis. Also, I notice that Assyrian has the tiles automated. 'nuff said.

1070: Izzy gives us a rice for fur offer. I take it.

1080: CS is completed. I trade machinery + drama for feudalism + 50 with Izzy. I notice that we've hit WFYABTA with both Louis and HC. That's not good, especially since HC is ahead of us in tech by a pretty significant margin... That's going to make late game tech trading more difficult. I revolt to bureaucracy but forgo HR. WW is gone now and I'm hooking up the calendar resources (why they haven't yet is beyond my understanding...).

1100: I juggled the specialists from Moscow to hurry along a GS. An academy is built in Moscow.

1140: Engineering is completed. Now we can finish off Hatty if we wish to, although I'd wait at least one more round of civilian builds before we go back to war both to diminish the accumulated WW and to allow the calendar resources to come online. We also have access to the culture slider now so if we whip out theaters, we can combat WW. I looked around for trades with engineering but there wasn't much. KK was 1-2 turns from completing it so I sold it to him for 170 gold (he had 230 at the time).

I've whipped out a few buildings here and there to help our economy. Once we get the calendar resources online, we will have the extra :) needed to carry out another war against Hatty. We also need to grab the city to the NW that has the horses. It has 3 :) resources in its bfc!!!! HC has a city nearby so I'm hoping he hasn't expanded too close to it yet. The barb city to the south has a bunch of archers in it. I don't know if it's worth taking at this point. I'd rather plant a city in the jungle so that Roos won't try to sneak a settler by our borders. We can also build a theater in Novgorod and try to culture flip Seattle. The borders will pop very soon and Seattle has no culture as far as I can tell (it lacks hammers).

I've turned most of the cities to working specialists/tiles instead of cottages. Since we have representation, let's try to avoid working cottages until emancipation... We will need a GS to bulb most of education if we are going to beat HC to the liberalism race.

It is indeed an honour etc etc

I had just written about the parlous state of our economy, which cross-posted with shyuhe's report and became instantly obselete (and therefore deleted).

Guess I'd better study a save when it arrives.

Got it (but will need 48 hours to play, real-life=12 hr shift tomorrow).

Lots of greenery waiting to be chopped. Lots of improvements waiting to be improved, buildings to be built etc.

Do we really need all these unpromoted obselete units (24 unit-cost/turn) if we're not going to HR in the near future?

We're likely to get just one GS that will help in lib-race; partial bulb for education, next one would bulb PP.

Hopefully I'll play this one tonight (in about 12 hours). I was thinking that once we've got paper we could bulb education with 2GS. In the meantime we could run cash slider very high: cash could be used to deficit research lib if we're in with a chance or upgrade units or whatever.
Once the current round of maces are finished I'll focus on trebs coz we're pretty low on seige and with enough collateral damage swords (or axes) can take out longbows.

1150. Looking ok so far. <Return>.

1160. Paper is in. Set scislide to 40% (small profit) and start on philosophy.

1170. Time to trade. Louis likes his toys (and is willing to pay for them):

And just like that slider goes up to 50%. Hats has got philosophy tho not paper, Honey Monster has paper but not philosophy.

1180. Another turn, another trade. Pig to Bella for 5gpt.

1190 Isabella builds Colossus.

1200 zzz

1210 Philosophy is in, start education. I know that I suggested bulbing education but earliest GS is like 19 turns away. Honey babe has learned education but still ain't learned/traded philosophy. Bit of a tech-hog, isn't he.

1220 Louis is turning mysogynist, we'd better be careful:

We agree and lose OB with Hats, no big deal if we're planning on attacking her soonish.

Time for some action on the war front, even if its only barbs.

Slightly interesting, only 5 archers but they're fortified on a hill. Time to send in the noobs. Lose 2 axes and 2 swords but take out 3 archers.

IBT. Honey's LB attacks the barb archers and dies :) . The barbs have whipped a wall  .

1230. The battle continues. Our gallant warriors have earned some promotions. C2Sword dies! CR3 Sword wins. CR3 Axe wins.
The city gets captured and is renamed Numidian coz I forget which civ we're playing  .

We build another city with a much more traditional name:

1240 Washy builds Hagia Sophia!

1250 Honey Monster launches a golden age :goodjob: .

Honey is well ahead on tech and economy and will win lib race easily even without a golden age. Maybe he's aiming for economic's free GM, we'll find out soon enough.

Isabella has built a city in the middle of 'our' land.

Been mainly building buildings, finished off the mace builds and building some trebs. We have a spare army south west of Thebes if Robo Kai is in a belligerent mood.

Looks like some more good turns. '

I'd probably switch the theater builds to granaries since we're expansive, but that may be just my habit. At this point in the game there's always the chance that a religion will spread to the city quickly and it won't need a theater to pop its borders.

Also, what victory condition are we headed for? Are there any wonders we're interested in?

Immy, you're up on this. Can you take it? If not, I can take it instead.

@berserks:

A swap would be nice indeed. I'll play after you tomorrow or Friday. Thanks !

Ok. I've got it then.

I plan on finishing up the treb army build-ups for the next player to wipe out Egypt.

As for victory conditions we're shooting for ... I think we planned a semi war with Diplo as the targetted victory. But it looks like we're heading more towards a dom victory to me ... we'll see how it pans out.
